< 2 Ebyomumirembe 32 >
1 Oluvannyuma lw’ebyo byonna Keezeekiya bye yakola n’obwesigwa, Sennakeribu kabaka w’e Bwasuli n’alumba Yuda, n’asiisira ebweru w’ebibuga ebiriko bbugwe, n’alowooza mu mutima gwe okubyetwalira.
After these things and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, entered into Judah, encamped against the fortified cities, and intended to win them for himself.
2 Awo Keezeekiya bwe yalaba nga Sennakeribu azze, era ng’amaliridde okulwana ne Yerusaalemi,
When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was planning to fight against Jerusalem,
3 n’ateesa n’abakungu be n’abasajja be abalwanyi abazira, ku ky’okuziba enzizi ezaali ebweru w’ekibuga, era ne bakikola.
he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city, and they helped him.
4 Ekibiina kinene eky’abantu ne kikuŋŋaana, ne baziba enzizi zonna n’akagga akayita mu nsi, nga bagamba nti, “Lwaki bakabaka b’e Bwasuli bajja ne basanga amazzi amangi bwe gatyo?”
Then many people gathered together and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the middle of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find abundant water?”
5 N’afuba nnyo n’addaabiriza ebitundu byonna ebya bbugwe ebyali bimenyese, n’azimba n’eminaala ku bbugwe, n’anyweza n’ebigulumu ebyanywezanga ekibuga kya Dawudi. N’akozesa n’ebyokulwanyisa bingi n’engabo nnyingi.
He took courage, built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, with the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in David’s city, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
6 N’alonda abaduumizi b’eggye okukulembera abantu, ne babakuŋŋaanyiza gy’ali mu kifo ekigazi awali wankaaki w’ekibuga; n’abagumya ng’agamba nti,
He set captains of war over the people, gathered them together to him in the wide place at the gate of the city, and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,
7 “Mube n’amaanyi, mugume omwoyo. Temutya so temwelariikirira olwa kabaka w’e Bwasuli n’eggye lye eddene, kubanga waliwo eggye eririsinga eriri awamu naffe.
“Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him.
8 Sennakeribu akozesa omukono ogw’omubiri, naye ffe tulina Mukama Katonda waffe atulwanirira mu ntalo zaffe.” Abantu ne baguma omwoyo olw’ebigambo Keezeekiya kabaka wa Yuda bye yayogera.
An arm of flesh is with him, but the LORD our God is with us to help us and to fight our battles.” The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9 Awo Sennakeribu kabaka w’e Bwasuli n’eggye lye lyonna bwe baali bakyali e Lakisi kye baali bazingizza, n’atuma abakungu be e Yerusaalemi eri Keezeekiya kabaka wa Yuda, n’eri abantu bonna aba Yuda abaaliyo, ng’agamba nti,
After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was attacking Lachish, and all his forces were with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,
10 “Bw’ati bw’ayogera Sennakeribu kabaka w’e Bwasuli nti, ‘Mwesiga ki okusigala mu Yerusaalemi nga kizingiziddwa?
Sennacherib king of Assyria says, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?
11 Mulowooza nga Keezeekiya bw’ayogera nti, “Mukama Katonda waffe alitulokola mu mukono gwa kabaka w’e Bwasuli,” abatalimba, n’okwagala okubassa enjala n’ennyonta?
Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘The LORD our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria’?
12 Keezeekiya si ye yaggyawo ebifo ebigulumivu n’ebyoto, n’alagira Yuda ne Yerusaalemi ng’agamba nti, “Munaasinzizanga mu maaso g’ekyoto kimu, era okwo kwe munaayoterezanga obubaane”?
Hasn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and you shall burn incense on it’?
13 “‘Temumanyi, nze ne bajjajjange bye twakola amawanga gonna ag’omu nsi endala? Bakatonda abamawanga ago, baayinza okubawonya mu mukono gwange?
Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?
14 Ani ku bakatonda abamawanga ago bajjajjange ge baazikiriza, eyayinza okubalokola mu mukono gwange? Katonda wammwe anaabawonya atya mu mukono gwange?
Who was there amongst all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?
15 Kale nno, Keezeekiya aleme kubalimbalimba newaakubadde okubasendasenda mu nsonga eyo. Temumukkiriza, kubanga tewali katonda ow’eggwanga lyonna oba bwakabaka, eyayinza okulokola abantu be mu mukono gwange newaakubadde eyayinza okubalokola mu mukono gwa bajjajjange. Kale Katonda wammwe alibawonya atya mu mukono gwange?’”
Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you nor persuade you in this way. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”
16 Abakungu ba Sennakeribu ne boogera bingi nnyo n’okusingawo ku Mukama Katonda ne ku muddu we Keezeekiya.
His servants spoke yet more against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah.
17 Kabaka oyo n’awandiika n’amabaluwa agavuma Mukama Katonda wa Isirayiri, ng’agamba nti, “Nga bakatonda abamawanga ag’ensi bwe bataabawonya mu mukono gwange, bw’atyo ne Katonda wa Keezeekiya bw’ataliwonya bantu be mu mukono gwange.”
He also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”
18 Ne bakoowoola abantu ba Yerusaalemi abaali ku bbugwe mu lw’Ebbulaniya, nga babatiisatiisa baggweemu amaanyi, balyoke bawambe ekibuga.
They called out with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them, that they might take the city.
19 Ne boogera ku Katonda wa Yerusaalemi nga bwe baayogeranga ku bakatonda abamawanga amalala ag’omu nsi endala, abakolebwa abantu.
They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.
20 Awo Kabaka Keezeekiya ne nnabbi Isaaya mutabani wa Amozi ne basaba nga bakaabira eri eggulu ku nsonga eyo.
Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.
21 Mukama n’atuma malayika, n’atemaatema abasajja abalwanyi abazira ab’amaanyi bonna n’abaduumizi, n’abakungu mu nkambi ya kabaka w’e Bwasuli. Sennakeribu n’addayo mu nsi ye ng’ensonyi zimukutte. Bwe yayingira mu yeekaalu ya katonda we, abamu ku batabani be ne bamutta n’ekitala.
The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valour, the leaders, and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came out of his own body killed him there with the sword.
22 Awo Mukama n’alokola Keezeekiya n’abantu ba Yerusaalemi mu mukono gwa Sennakeribu kabaka w’e Bwasuli ne mu mukono gw’abalabe baabwe bonna abalala. N’abaakuumanga enjuuyi zonna.
Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
23 Bangi ne baleetera Mukama ebirabo e Yerusaalemi, ne Keezeekiya kabaka wa Yuda n’afuna ebirabo eby’omuwendo omungi. N’okuva ku lunaku olwo n’aweebwa ekitiibwa kinene mu mawanga gonna.
Many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from then on.
24 Mu biro ebyo, Keezeekiya n’alwala nnyo kumpi n’okufa. N’asaba Mukama amuwonye, n’amuddamu n’akabonero.
In those days Hezekiah was terminally ill, and he prayed to the LORD; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.
25 Naye Keezeekiya n’ateebaza ebyekisa ekya mukolerwa, olw’amalala agaali mu ye. Obusungu bwa Mukama kyebwava bubuubuukira ku ye ne ku Yuda ne ku Yerusaalemi.
But Hezekiah didn’t reciprocate appropriate to the benefit done for him, because his heart was lifted up. Therefore there was wrath on him, Judah, and Jerusalem.
26 Oluvannyuma, Keezeekiya ne yeenenya amalala agaali mu ye, ku lulwe ne ku lw’abantu ab’omu Yerusaalemi, ekiruyi kya Mukama ne butababuubuukirako mu mirembe gya Keezeekiya.
However, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the LORD’s wrath didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.
27 Keezeekiya yalina eby’obugagga bingi nnyo n’ekitiibwa, ne yeezimbira n’amawanika ag’okukuumirangamu effeeza, ne zaabu, n’amayinja ag’omuwendo omungi, n’ebyakaloosa, n’engabo, n’ebintu eby’engeri zonna eby’omuwendo.
Hezekiah had exceedingly great riches and honour. He provided himself with treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of valuable vessels;
28 N’azimba n’amaterekero ag’eŋŋaano, ne wayini, n’amafuta; n’azimba n’ebiraalo eby’ebika by’ente byonna, n’ebifo eby’ebisibo by’endiga.
also storehouses for the increase of grain, new wine, and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.
29 Ne yeezimbira ebibuga, ne yeefunira n’ebisibo n’amagana mangi, kubanga Katonda yali amuwadde eby’obugagga bingi nnyo nnyini.
Moreover he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him abundant possessions.
30 Keezeekiya, ye yaziba oluzzi olwa waggulu olwa Gikoni, amazzi n’agaserengesa ku luuyi olw’ebugwanjuba olw’ekibuga kya Dawudi. N’alaba omukisa mu buli kye yakolanga.
This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of David’s city. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
31 Naye mu bigambo eby’ababaka abaatumibwa abakungu b’e Babulooni okumubuuza ku byamagero ebyakolebwa mu nsi ye, Katonda n’amugeza alyoke ategeere byonna ebyali mu mutima gwe.
However, concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him to test him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
32 Ebyafaayo ebirala ebyabaawo mu mirembe gya Keezeekiya, n’ebikolwa bye ebirungi eby’obunyiikivu, byawandiikibwa mu kwolesebwa kwa Isaaya nnabbi mutabani wa Amozi, mu kitabo kya bassekabaka ba Yuda ne Isirayiri.
Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
33 Keezeekiya ne yeebakira wamu ne bajjajjaabe, n’aziikibwa mu masiro g’abazzukulu ba Dawudi, era Yuda yonna, n’abatuuze bonna aba Yerusaalemi ne bamukungubagira ne bamuwa ekitiibwa ne mu kufa kwe. Manase mutabani we n’amusikira.
Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent to the tombs of the sons of David. All Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem honoured him at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
