When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2 Naye ekigambo kya Mukama ne kijjira Semaaya omusajja wa Katonda nti,
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3 “Gamba Lekobowaamu mutabani wa Sulemaani kabaka wa Yuda, n’Abayisirayiri bonna abali mu Yuda ne Benyamini nti,
"Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4 Bw’ati bw’ayogera Mukama, ‘Temulumba baganda bammwe. Buli omu ku mmwe addeyo ewuwe, kubanga kino kivudde gye ndi.’” Awo ne bagondera ekigambo kya Mukama, ne baddayo, ne batagenda kulumba Yerobowaamu.
'Thus says the LORD, "You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers. Return every man to his house; for this thing is of me."'" So they listened to the word of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
5 Lekobowaamu n’abeera mu Yerusaalemi, n’azimba ebibuga eby’okwerinda mu Yuda:
Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.
6 n’azimba Besirekemu, ne Etamu, ne Tekowa,
He built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7 ne Besuzuli, ne Soko, ne Adulamu,
Beth Zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10 ne Zola, ne Ayalooni, ne Kebbulooni nga bye bibuga ebiriko bbugwe ebyali mu Yuda ne Benyamini.
and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.
11 N’anyweza bbugwe waabyo, n’ateekayo abaduumizi, n’emmere ey’okwerinzisa n’amafuta ag’omuzeeyituuni ne wayini.
He fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine.
12 N’ateekayo engabo n’amafumu mu bibuga byonna, n’abinywereza ddala, Yuda ne Benyamini ne biba bibye.
He put shields and spears in every city, and made them exceeding strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
13 Bakabona n’Abaleevi okuva mu Isirayiri yonna ne bakkiriziganya naye.
The priests and the Levites who were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.
14 Abaleevi ne bava mu butaka bwabwe ne baleka n’eby’obugagga bwabwe ne bajja mu Yuda ne Yerusaalemi, kubanga Yerobowaamu ne batabani be babagobaganya era ne babagaana okuweereza Mukama mu bwakabaka bwabwe,
For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest's office to the LORD;
15 nga balonda bakabona abaabwe okuweerezanga ku bifo ebigulumivu, ne bakatonda baabwe ab’ebifaananyi eby’embuzi n’ente, bye yali abumbye.
and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the male goats, and for the calves which he had made.
16 N’abo bonna abaali beewaddeyo mu mitima gyabwe okunoonya Mukama Katonda wa Isirayiri ne bagenda n’Abaleevi e Yerusaalemi okuwaayo ssaddaaka eri Mukama Katonda wa bajjajjaabwe.
After them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek the LORD, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
17 Ne banyweza obwakabaka bwa Yuda, era ne bawagira Lekobowaamu mutabani wa Sulemaani okumala emyaka esatu, nga batambulira mu kkubo lya Dawudi ne Sulemaani.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.
18 Lekobowaamu n’awasa Makalasi muwala wa Yerimosi mutabani wa Dawudi, ne Abikayiri muwala wa Eriyaabu mutabani wa Yese,
Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
19 Makalasi n’azaalira Lekobowaamu abaana aboobulenzi: Yewusi, ne Semaliya ne Zakamu.
and she bore him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his secondary wives: (for he took eighteen wives, and sixty secondary wives, and became the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.)
22 Lekobowaamu n’alonda Abiya mutabani wa Maaka okuba omukulu wa baganda be, ng’agenderera okumufuula kabaka.
Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, the prince among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.
23 N’akola eky’amagezi, n’asaasaanya batabani be abamu mu masaza ag’enjawulo aga Yuda ne Benyamini, ne mu bibuga byonna ebyaliko bbugwe, n’abawa eby’obugagga bingi, n’abafunira n’abakazi bangi.
He dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city: and he gave them food in abundance. He sought for them many wives.
