1 Awo Dawudi bwe yamala okwogera ne Sawulo, Yonasaani n’aba bumu ne Dawudi, era n’amwagala nnyo nga bwe yali yeeyagala.
It happened, when he had made an end of speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2 Okuva ku lunaku olwo Sawulo n’atwala Dawudi okubeera naye, n’atamuganya kuddayo mu nnyumba ya kitaawe.
Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.
3 Awo Yonasaani n’atta omukago ne Dawudi kubanga yamwagala nnyo nga bwe yali yeeyagala yekka.
Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4 Yonasaani ne yeeyambulamu ekyambalo kye yali ayambadde n’ekanzu ye, ne yeesumulula n’ekitala kye, n’omutego gwe n’olukoba lwe, n’abiwa Dawudi.
Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him, and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.
5 Buli kintu Sawulo kye yatumanga Dawudi, Dawudi n’akituukirizanga bulungi nnyo, era Sawulo kyeyava amuwa ekifo ekyawaggulu mu magye. Ekyo ne kisanyusa abantu bonna, n’abakungu ba Sawulo.
Then Saul set him over the men of war, and David went out, succeeding wherever Saul sent him. And it was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
6 Awo abasajja bwe baali nga bakomawo eka, Dawudi ng’amaze okutta Omufirisuuti, abakazi ne bava mu bibuga byonna ebya Isirayiri nga bayimba era nga bazina, okusisinkana kabaka Sawulo, nga bayimba ennyimba ez’essanyu, nga balina ebitaasa n’entongooli.
It happened as they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with instruments of music.
7 Baazinanga ate nga bwe bayimba nti, “Sawulo asse enkumi ze Dawudi n’atta emitwalo gye.”
The women sang one to another as they played, and said, "Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands."
8 Sawulo olwawulira ebigambo ebyo n’asunguwala nnyo, era ne kimukola bubi nnyo. N’ayogera nti, “Dawudi bamuwaanye n’emitwalo, nze ne bampaana n’enkumi; kiki ky’ataafune bw’ataalye bwakabaka?”
Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him; and he said, "They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands. What can he have more but the kingdom?"
9 Awo okuva mu kiseera ekyo Sawulo n’akwatirwa Dawudi obuggya.
Saul viewed David with suspicion from that day and forward.
10 Olunaku olwaddirira omwoyo omubi okuva eri Katonda ne gujja ku Sawulo n’amaanyi mangi, n’ayogera eby’obunnabbi mu lubiri lwe, Dawudi nga bw’akuba entongooli nga bwe yakolanga buli lunaku. Sawulo yalina effumu mu ngalo ze,
It happened on the next day, that a harmful spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house. David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand;
11 n’alikasuka, ng’ayogera mu mutima gwe nti, “Kanfumite Dawudi mmukwasize ku kisenge.” Naye Dawudi n’alyewoma emirundi ebiri.
and Saul threw the spear; for he said, "I will pin David even to the wall." David escaped from his presence twice.
12 Awo Sawulo n’atya Dawudi, kubanga Mukama yali wamu naye, kyokka ng’avudde ku Sawulo.
Saul was afraid of David, because Jehovah was with him, and had departed from Saul.
13 Sawulo kyeyava aziyiza Dawudi okujja mu maaso ge n’amufuula omuduumizi ow’abasajja olukumi, era olw’omulimu ogwo ne yeeyongera okwatiikirira mu bantu.
Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14 Dawudi n’afuna omukisa mu buli kye yakolanga, kubanga Mukama yali wamu naye.
David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and Jehovah was with him.
15 Awo Sawulo bwe yalaba Dawudi ng’afuna emikisa, n’amutya.
When Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he stood in awe of him.
16 Naye Isirayiri yenna ne Yuda ne baagala Dawudi, kubanga yakulemberanga bulungi.
But all Israel and Judah loved David; for he went out and came in before them.
17 Awo Sawulo n’agamba Dawudi nti, “Nzija kukuwa muwala wange omukulu Merabu, abe mukyala wo, mpeereza n’obuvumu era lwana entalo za Mukama.” Sawulo n’ateesa mu mutima gwe nti, “Kikafuuwe nze okugolola omukono gwange okumukolako akabi. Ekyo Abafirisuuti be balikikola.”
Saul said to David, "Look, my elder daughter Merob, I will give her to you as wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight Jehovah's battles." For Saul said, "Do not let my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be on him."
18 Naye Dawudi n’agamba Sawulo nti, “Nze ani, n’ennyumba ye waffe be baani, era n’ekika kya kitange kye kiki mu Isirayiri, nze okuba mukoddomi wa kabaka?”
David said to Saul, "Who am I, and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?"
19 Naye ekiseera bwe kyatuuka omuwala wa Sawulo Merabu okuweebwa Dawudi, ne bamuwa Aduliyeri Omumekolasi okumuwasa.
But it happened at the time when Merob, Saul's daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as wife.
20 Awo muwala wa Sawulo omulala Mikali yali ayagala Dawudi, era Sawulo bwe yakiwulira, n’akisanyukira.
Mikal, Saul's daughter, loved David; and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21 Sawulo n’alowooza mu mutima gwe nti, “Nzija kumumuwa afuuke omutego, omukono gw’Abafirisuuti gulyoke gumuzikirize.” Sawulo kyeyava agamba Dawudi nti, “Kaakano ofunye omukisa ogwokubiri okuba mukoddomi wange.”
And Saul thought, "I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him." Therefore Saul said to David, "You shall this day be my son-in-law a second time."
22 Awo Sawulo n’alagira abaweereza be nti, “Mwogere ne Dawudi kyama mumugambe nti, ‘Laba, kabaka akusanyukira, ate n’abaweereza be bonna bakwagala, noolwekyo beera mukoddomi wa kabaka.’”
Then Saul commanded his servants, "Talk with David secretly, and say, 'Look, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. So now therefore be the king's son-in-law.'"
23 Ebigambo ebyo ne babitegeeza Dawudi. Naye Dawudi n’ayogera nti, “Mulowooza nga kintu kitono okubeera mukoddomi wa kabaka? Nze ndi musajja mwavu atamanyiddwa nnyo.”
Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. David said, "Does it seems to you a little thing to be the king's son-in-law, since I am a poor man, and insignificant?"
24 Abaweereza ba Sawulo ne bamutuusaako ebigambo bya Dawudi.
The servants of Saul told him, saying, "David spoke like this."
25 Sawulo n’addamu nti, “Mugambe Dawudi nti, ‘Tewali kirala kabaka ky’ayagala okuggyako ebikuta by’Abafirisuuti kikumi okwesasuza ku balabe be, n’oluvannyuma onoowasa muwala we.’” Sawulo yali ayagala Dawudi attibwe Abafirisuuti.
Saul said, "You shall tell David, 'The king desires no dowry except one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies.'" Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26 Awo abaweereza be ne bagenda ne bategeeza Dawudi ebigambo ebyo, Dawudi n’asanyuka nnyo okuba mukoddomi wa kabaka. Awo ekiseera ekiragaane nga tekinnaba na kuyitawo,
When his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law. The days were not expired;
27 Dawudi n’abasajja be ne bagenda ne batta Abafirisuuti ebikumi bibiri. N’aleeta ebikuta byabwe, n’awaayo omuwendo ogutuukiridde eri kabaka, alyoke abeere mukoddomi wa kabaka. Awo Sawulo n’alyoka amuwa muwala we Mikali amuwase.
and David arose and went, he and his men, and killed of the Philistines one hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Mikal his daughter as wife.
28 Naye Sawulo bwe yategeera nga Mukama ali wamu ne Dawudi, ate nga ne muwala we Mikali ayagala Dawudi,
When Saul saw and knew that Jehovah was with David, and that all Israel loved him,
29 Sawulo ne yeeyongera okumutya, era n’aba mulabe wa Dawudi okuva mu kiseera ekyo.
then he was even more afraid of David. So Saul was David's enemy continually.
30 Abaduumizi b’Abafirisuuti ne beeyongera okubatabaalanga, era buli lwe baabalumbanga, Dawudi n’awangulanga okusinga n’Abaserikale ba Sawulo abalala bonna. Erinnya lya Dawudi ne lyatiikirira nnyo.
Then the leaders of the Philistines went forth: and it happened, as often as they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was highly esteemed.
