< 1 Samwiri 16 >
1 Awo Mukama n’agamba Samwiri nti, “Olituusa ddi okunakuwala olwa Sawulo, ate nga nze sikyamubala kuba kabaka wa Isirayiri? Jjuza ejjembe lyo amafuta nkutume eri Yese Omubesirekemu kubanga nnonze omu ku batabani be okuba kabaka.”
Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long are you going to mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have selected from his sons a king for Myself.”
2 Naye Samwiri n’ayogera nti, “Nnaagenda ntya? Sawulo bw’anakiwulira ajja kunzita.” Mukama n’amugamba nti, “Weetwalire ennyana oyogere nti, ‘Nzize kuwaayo ssaddaaka eri Mukama.’
“How can I go?” Samuel asked. “Saul will hear of it and kill me!” The LORD answered, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’
3 Yita Yese ajje okuwaayo ssaddaaka, nzija kukulaga eky’okukola. Ojja kufuka amafuta ku oyo gwe nnaaba nnonze.”
Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you are to do. You are to anoint for Me the one I indicate.”
4 Samwiri n’akola ekyo Mukama kye yamulagira. Bwe yatuuka e Besirekemu abakulu b’ekibuga ne bakankana olw’okutya bwe baamusisinkana era ne bamubuuza nti, “Ojja mirembe?”
So Samuel did what the LORD had said and went to Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they trembled and asked, “Do you come in peace?”
5 N’abaddamu nti, “Weewaawo, mirembe. Nzize okuwaayo ssaddaaka eri Mukama. Mwetukuze tugende ffenna tuweeyo ssaddaaka.” N’atukuza Yese ne batabani be, n’abayita okujja okuwaayo ssaddaaka.
“In peace,” he replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
6 Bwe baatuuka n’atunuulira Eriyaabu, n’alowooza nti, “Mazima Mukama ono gw’afuseeko amafuta, era y’ayimiridde kaakano mu maaso ga Mukama.”
When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and said, “Surely here before the LORD is His anointed.”
7 Naye Mukama n’agamba Samwiri nti, “Totunuulira nfaanana ye wadde obuwanvu bwe, kubanga si gwe nnonze. Mukama tatunuulira ebyo abantu bye batunuulira. Abantu batunuulira bya kungulu naye Mukama atunuulira bya mu mutima.”
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.”
8 Awo Yese n’ayita Abinadaabu, n’amuyisa mu maaso ga Samwiri. Naye Samwiri n’ayogera nti, “Oyo naye Mukama si gw’alonze.”
Then Jesse called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel, who said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
9 Yese n’ayita Samma n’amusimbawo, naye Samwiri n’ayogera nti, “Era n’oyo Mukama si gw’alonze.”
Next Jesse presented Shammah, but Samuel said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
10 Yese n’ayisa batabani be omusanvu mu maaso ga Samwiri, naye Samwiri n’amugamba nti, “Ku bo tekuli n’omu Mukama gw’alonze.”
Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel told him, “The LORD has not chosen any of these.”
11 N’abuuza Yese nti, “Bano be batabani bo bokka?” Yese n’addamu nti, “Ekyasigaddeyo asingira ddala obuto, alunda ndiga.” Samwiri n’agamba Yese nti, “Mutumye; tetujja kuweera okutuusa lw’anajja.”
And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”
12 N’amutumya, n’aleetebwa. Yali mumyufu, n’amaaso ge nga malungi, era ng’alabika bulungi nnyo. Awo Mukama n’ayogera nti, “Golokoka omufukeko amafuta; ye wuuyo.”
So Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him, for he is the one.”
13 Awo Samwiri n’addira ejjembe ly’amafuta, n’agamufukako mu maaso ga baganda be. Okuva ku lunaku olwo Omwoyo wa Mukama n’akka ku Dawudi mu maanyi mangi. Oluvannyuma Samwiri n’addayo e Laama.
So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.
14 Awo Omwoyo wa Mukama Katonda yali avudde ku Sawulo, omwoyo omubi ogwava eri Mukama ne gumucoccanga.
After the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, a spirit of distress from the LORD began to torment him.
15 Awo abaweereza ba Sawulo ne bamuleetera ekiteeso nti, “Laba, omwoyo omubi okuva eri Katonda gukucocca.
Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely a spirit of distress from God is tormenting you.
16 Mukama waffe alagire abaweereza be kaakano okumunoonyeza omuntu asobola okukuba entongooli. Omwoyo omubi okuva eri Katonda bwe gunaabanga gukusseeko, bw’anagikubanga n’oddamu endasi, onoowuliranga bulungi n’okkakkana.”
Let our lord command your servants here to seek out someone who can skillfully play the harp. Whenever the spirit of distress from God is upon you, he is to play it, and you will be well.”
17 Awo Sawulo n’alagira abaweereza be nti, “Munfunireyo omuntu asobola okukuba entongooli obulungi, mumundeetere.”
And Saul commanded his servants, “Find me someone who plays well, and bring him to me.”
18 Omu ku baweereza n’addamu nti, “Waliwo mutabani wa Yese Omubesirekemu gwe nalaba asobola okukuba entongooli obulungi. Musajja muzira era mulwanyi, ate nga mwogezi mulungi, era alabika bulungi. Ate Mukama Katonda ali wamu naye.”
One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a mighty man of valor, a warrior, eloquent and handsome, and the LORD is with him.”
19 Awo Sawulo n’atuma ababaka eri Yese, ng’agamba nti, “Mpeereza mutabani wo Dawudi, alabirira endiga.”
So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”
20 Yese n’addira endogoyi n’agitikka emigaati, n’eccupa y’envinnyo n’omwana gw’embuzi, n’abiweereza wamu ne mutabani we Dawudi eri Sawulo.
And Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and one young goat, and sent them to Saul with his son David.
21 Dawudi n’atuuka eri Sawulo, n’afuuka omu ku baweereza be. Sawulo n’amwagala nnyo, era n’amufuula omu ku abo abaasitulanga ebyokulwanyisa bye.
When David came to Saul and entered his service, Saul admired him greatly, and David became his armor-bearer.
22 Awo Sawulo n’atumira Yese ng’agamba nti, “Kkiriza Dawudi asigale ng’omu ku baweereza bange, kubanga nsiimye by’ankolera.”
Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.”
23 Awo buli omwoyo omubi okuva eri Katonda lwe gw’ajjanga ku Sawulo, Dawudi n’amukubiranga entongooli, Sawulo n’akkakkana, era n’awulira bulungiko, n’omwoyo omubi ne gumuvaako.
And whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would pick up his harp and play, and Saul would become well, and the spirit of distress would depart from him.
