1 Masese ya Salomo: Mwana ya bwanya asepelisaka tata na ye, kasi mwana ya zoba ayokisaka mama na ye pasi na motema.
A wise son makes [his] father glad: but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
2 Bomengo oyo ezwami na nzela ya mabe epesaka litomba te, kasi bosembo ekangolaka na kufa.
Treasures shall not profit the lawless: but righteousness shall deliver from death.
3 Yawe atikaka te ete moto ya sembo akufa nzala, kasi apimelaka bato mabe biloko oyo bazali na yango posa.
The Lord will not famish a righteous soul: but he will overthrow the life of the ungodly.
4 Maboko ya goyigoyi ekomisaka moto mobola, kasi maboko oyo esalaka ekomisaka moto mozwi.
Poverty brings a man low: but the hands of the vigorous make rich. A son who is instructed shall be wise, and shall use the fool for a servant.
5 Moto oyo abombaka biloko na eleko ya mvula azali mwana mayele, kasi moto oyo alalaka pongi na eleko ya kobuka mbuma azali mwana ya soni.
A wise son is saved from heat: but a lawless son is blighted of the winds in harvest.
6 Mapamboli ezali na likolo ya moto ya moto ya sembo lokola motole, kasi monoko ya moto mabe ebombaka bitumba.
The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the just: but untimely grief shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.
7 Makanisi ya moto ya sembo ezali na lipamboli, kasi bakobosana kombo ya moto mabe.
The memory of the just is praised; but the name of the ungodly [man] is extinguished.
8 Motema ya bwanya endimaka mibeko, kasi moto oyo alobaka makambo ya bozoba amilukelaka libebi.
A wise man in heart will receive commandments; but he that is unguarded in his lips shall be overthrown in his perverseness.
9 Moto ya sembo atambolaka na kimia, kasi moto oyo atambolaka na banzela etengama-tengama akobima na pwasa.
He that walks simply, walks confidently; but he that perverts his ways shall be known.
10 Moto oyo afinaka liso na mayele mabe alukaka mobulu, kasi moto oyo apamelaka na bosolo alukaka kimia.
He that winks with his eyes deceitfully, procures griefs for men; but he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker.
11 Monoko ya moto ya sembo ezali etima ya bomoi, kasi monoko ya moto mabe ebombaka makambo mabe.
[There is] a fountain of life in the hand of a righteous man; but destruction shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.
12 Koyina ebendaka koswana, kasi bolingo ezipaka mabe.
Hatred stirs up strife; but affection covers all that do not love strife.
13 Bibebu ya moto ya mayele ezalaka na bwanya, kasi fimbu ezali malamu mpo na mokongo ya moto oyo azangi mayele.
He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod.
14 Moto ya bwanya abombaka boyebi, kasi monoko ya zoba ebendaka pasi.
The wise will hide discretion; but the mouth of the hasty draws near to ruin.
15 Bomengo ya mozwi ezali engumba na ye, oyo batonga makasi, kasi bobola ya bato bakelela ezali libebi na bango.
The wealth of rich men is a strong city; but poverty is the ruin of the ungodly.
16 Lifuti ya moto ya sembo ememaka ye na bomoi, kasi lifuti ya moto mabe ememaka na lisumu.
The works of the righteous produce life; but the fruits of the ungodly [produce] sins.
17 Moto oyo ayokaka pamela atambolaka na nzela ya bomoi, kasi moto oyo ayokaka pamela te apengwisaka bato mosusu.
Instruction keeps the right ways of life; but instruction unchastened goes astray.
18 Moto oyo abombaka koyina kati na motema na ye azali na bibebu ya lokuta, mpe moto oyo atongaka bato azali zoba.
Righteous lips cover enmity; but they that utter railings are most foolish.
19 Moto oyo alobaka maloba ebele azangaka te kosala masumu, kasi moto oyo abatelaka bibebu na ye azali moto ya bwanya.
By a multitude of words thou shalt not escape sin; but if thou refrain thy lips thou wilt be prudent.
20 Lolemo ya moto ya sembo ezali lokola palata ya talo, kasi motema ya moto mabe ezali na tina te.
The tongue of the just is tried silver; but the heart of the ungodly shall fail.
21 Bibebu ya moto ya sembo ebikisaka bato ebele, kasi zoba akokufa na bozoba na ye.
The lips of the righteous know sublime [truths]: but the foolish die in want.
22 Lipamboli ya Yawe ekomisaka moto mozwi, mpe abakisaka pasi te na likolo na yango.
The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the righteous; it enriches [him], and grief of heart shall not be added to [it].
23 Kosala mabe esepelisaka moto oyo azangi mayele, kasi bwanya esepelisaka moto ya mayele.
A fool does mischief in sport; but wisdom brings forth prudence for a man.
24 Makambo oyo moto mabe abangaka, yango kaka nde ekomelaka ye, kasi baposa ya moto ya sembo ekokokisama.
The ungodly is engulphed in destruction; but the desire of the righteous is acceptable.
25 Ndenge mbonge elekaka, ndenge wana mpe moto mabe akozala lisusu te, kasi moto ya sembo akotikala lokola moboko mpo na libela.
When the storm passes by, the ungodly vanishes away; but the righteous turns aside and escapes for ever.
26 Ndenge masanga ya ngayi esalaka minu ngayi, mpe molinga esalaka miso pasi, ndenge wana mpe moto ya goyigoyi azalaka epai ya bato oyo batindaka ye pasi.
As a sour grape is hurtful to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so iniquity hurts those that practise it.
27 Kotosa Yawe eyeisaka bomoi molayi, kasi bomoi ya bato mabe ekokoma mokuse.
The fear of the Lord adds [length] of days: but the years of the ungodly shall be shortened.
28 Elikya ya moto ya sembo ekosuka na esengo, kasi elikya ya moto mabe ekosuka na pamba.
Joy rests long with the righteous: but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.
29 Nzela ya Yawe ezali ekimelo ya makasi mpo na bato oyo batambolaka na boyengebene, kasi ezali nde libebi mpo na bato oyo basalaka mabe.
The fear of the Lord is a strong hold of the saints: but ruin [comes] to them that work wickedness.
30 Moto ya sembo akotikala kokweya te, kasi bato mabe bakovanda na mokili te.
The righteous shall never fail: but the ungodly shall not dwell in the earth.
31 Monoko ya moto ya sembo epesaka bwanya, kasi lolemo ya lokuta ekokatama.
The mouth of the righteous drops wisdom: but the tongue of the unjust shall perish.
32 Bibebu ya moto ya sembo eyebaka makambo oyo ezali malamu, kasi monoko ya moto mabe ezalaka kaka na makambo mabe.
The lips of just men drop grace: but the mouth of the ungodly is perverse.
