1 Naashi, moto ya Amoni, ayaki kotonga molako na ye liboso ya Yabeshi ya Galadi. Mpe bato nyonso ya engumba Yabeshi balobaki na Naashi: — Sala boyokani elongo na biso, mpe tokokoma bawumbu na yo.
Then Nahash the Ammonite went and laid seige to Jabesh Gilead. All the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, “Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you.”
2 Kasi Naashi, moto ya Amoni, azongisaki: — Nakoki kosala boyokani elongo na bino soki kaka bondimi ete natobola bino nyonso liso ya ngambo ya mobali. Na bongo, nakoyokisa Isalaele mobimba soni.
Nahash the Ammonite replied, “On this condition will I make a treaty with you, that I gouge out all of your right eyes, and in this way bring disgrace on all Israel.”
3 Bampaka ya Yabeshi balobaki na ye: — Pesa biso mikolo sambo mpo ete totinda bantoma kati na mokili mobimba ya Isalaele; soki moto moko te ayei kobikisa biso, wana tokomikaba na maboko na yo.
Then the elders of Jabesh replied to him, “Leave us alone for seven days, so that we may send messengers to all the territory of Israel. Then, if there is no one to save us, we will surrender to you.”
4 Tango bantoma bakomaki na Gibea, engumba ya Saulo, mpe balobaki na bato makambo nyonso oyo ezalaki koleka, bato nyonso balelaki makasi.
The messengers came to Gibeah, where Saul lived, and told the people what had happened. All the people wept loudly.
5 Kaka na tango yango, Saulo awutaki na bilanga, sima na bangombe na ye. Atunaki: « Likambo nini ya mabe ekweyeli bato mpo ete balela boye? » Bayebisaki ye makambo nyonso oyo bato ya Yabeshi balobaki.
Now Saul was following the oxen out of the field. Saul said, “What is wrong with the people that they are weeping?” They told Saul what the men of Jabesh had said.
6 Tango Saulo ayokaki maloba na bango, Molimo na Nzambe akitelaki ye na nguya mpe asilikaki makasi.
When Saul heard what they said, the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he was very angry.
7 Akamataki bangombe mibale, akataki yango na biteni mpe atindaki biteni yango na Isalaele mobimba na nzela ya bantoma. Bamemaki sango oyo: « Ezali boye nde bakosala bangombe ya moto nyonso oyo akolanda te Saulo mpe Samuele na bitumba. » Lokola somo makasi ya Yawe ekangaki bato ya Isalaele, batambolaki lokola moto moko.
He took a yoke of oxen, cut them into pieces, and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel with the messengers. He said, “Whoever does not come out after Saul and after Samuel, this is what will be done to his oxen.” Then the terror of Yahweh fell on the people, and they came out together as one man.
8 Saulo atangaki bango, na Bezeki; motango ezalaki: mibali ya Isalaele nkoto nkama misato, mpe mibali ya Yuda nkoto tuku misato.
When he mustered them at Bezek, the people of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
9 Balobaki na bantoma oyo bawutaki na Yabeshi: « Bokende koloba na mibali ya Yabeshi ya Galadi: ‹ Bokokangolama lobi, na tango moyi ekongala makasi. › » Tango bantoma bakendeki mpe bapesaki sango yango epai ya bato ya Yabeshi, bato yango basepelaki makasi.
They said to the messengers that came, “You will tell the men of Jabesh Gilead, 'Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you will be rescued.'” So the messengers went and told the men of Jabesh, and they were glad.
10 Boye bato ya Yabeshi balobaki na bato ya Amoni: « Tokomikaba lobi na maboko na bino, mpe bokosala biso nyonso oyo bokomona ete ezali malamu. »
Then the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, “Tomorrow we will surrender to you, and you can do to us whatever seems good to you.”
11 Mokolo oyo elandaki, Saulo akabolaki mibali na ye na masanga misato. Mpe liboso ete tongo etana, bakotaki na molako ya bato ya Amoni mpe babomaki bango kino na tango oyo moyi engalaki makasi. Bapanzaki bato oyo babikaki na lolenge oyo esalaki ete etikalaki ata na mibali mibale te kati na bango oyo bakobaki kozala esika moko.
The next day Saul put the people in three groups. They came into the middle of the camp during the morning watch, and they attacked and defeated the Ammonites until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
12 Bato balobaki na Samuele: — Wapi bato oyo bazalaki koloba: « Boni, Saulo akoyangela biso? » Bomemela biso bato yango mpo ete toboma bango.
Then the people said to Samuel, “Who was it who said, 'Will Saul reign over us?' Bring the men, so we can put them to death.”
13 Kasi Saulo alobaki: — Moto moko te akokufa na mokolo ya lelo, pamba te Yawe akangoli Isalaele na mokolo ya lelo.
But Saul said, “No one must be put to death this day, because today Yahweh has rescued Israel.”
14 Samuele alobaki na bato: — Boya! Tokende na Giligali mpo na kovandisa kuna bokonzi ya Saulo.
Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and renew the monarchy there.”
15 Bato nyonso bakendeki na Giligali mpe batiaki kuna Saulo lokola mokonzi, na miso ya Yawe. Babonzaki kuna bambeka ya boyokani na miso ya Yawe, mpe Saulo elongo na mibali nyonso ya Isalaele basepelaki makasi.
So all the people went to Gilgal and made Saul king before Yahweh in Gilgal. There they sacrificed peace offerings before Yahweh, and Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
