1 Šie nu ir Israēla bērnu vārdi, kas ar Jēkabu ir nākuši uz Ēģiptes zemi; ikviens nāca ar savu saimi:
And these are the names of the sons of Israel who had come into Egypt; with Jacob had they come, each with his household:
2 Rūbens, Sīmeans, Levis un Jūda,
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;
3 Īsašars, Zebulons un Benjamins,
Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;
4 Dans, Naftalus, Gads un Ašers.
Dan and Naphtali; Gad and Asher.
5 Un visas dvēseles, kas nākušas no Jēkaba gurniem bija septiņdesmit; bet Jāzeps jau bija Ēģiptes zemē.
And all the souls that had come out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls; and Joseph was in Egypt.
6 Kad nu Jāzeps bija nomiris un visi viņa brāļi un viss tas dzimums,
And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
7 Tad Israēla bērni augļojās un radās pa pulkiem un vairojās un tapa ļoti vareni, tā ka tā zeme ar tiem tapa piepildīta.
And the children of Israel were fruitful, and swarmed and multiplied, and became exceeding strong; and the land was full of them.
8 Un jauns ķēniņš cēlās pār Ēģiptes zemi, kas Jāzepu nepazina.
And there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.
9 Tas sacīja uz saviem ļaudīm: Redzi, Israēla bērnu tauta ir liela, un tie ir jo varenāki nekā mēs.
And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more numerous and stronger than we.
10 Tad nu turēsimies gudri pret tiem, ka tie nevairojās, lai, kad karš ceļas, tie nedodās pie mūsu ienaidniekiem un nekaro pret mums un neaiziet no šīs zemes.
Come on, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come to pass that, if war occur, they take side with our enemies and fight against us, and go up out of the land.
11 Tad tie pār viņiem iecēla darba uzraugus, ka viņus spiestu ar grūtiem darbiem, un tie Faraonam uztaisīja mantu pilis Pitom un Raēmzes.
And they set over them service-masters to oppress them with their burdens. And they built store-cities for Pharaoh, Pithom and Rameses.
12 Bet jo vairāk viņus spieda, jo vairāk tie vairojās un izplētās; un tiem palika bail no Israēla bērniem.
But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and spread; and they were distressed because of the children of Israel.
13 Un ēģiptieši kalpināja Israēla bērnus nežēlīgi,
And the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with harshness;
14 Un darīja dzīvību tiem rūgtu ar grūtiem darbiem pie māliem un ķieģeļiem un ar visādiem darbiem laukā, un ar visādiem darbiem, ar ko tie viņus nežēlīgi kalpināja.
and they embittered their life with hard labour in clay and bricks, and in all manner of labour in the field: all their labour with which they made them serve was with harshness.
15 Un Ēģiptes ķēniņš runāja uz Ebreju bērnu saņēmējām, (tās vienas vārds bija Šifra un tās otras Pua),
And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives — of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other was Puah —
16 Un sacīja: kad jūs Ebreju sievām palīdzat pie dzemdēšanas, un tām uz krēsla sēžot redzat to esam dēlu, tad to nonāvējiet, bet ja ir meita, tad to atstājiet dzīvu.
and he said, When ye help the Hebrew women in bearing, and see [them] on the stool, if it be a son, then ye shall kill him, but if a daughter, then she shall live.
17 Bet tās bērnu saņēmējas bijās Dievu un nedarīja, kā Ēģiptes ķēniņš tām bija sacījis, bet atstāja tos puisēnus dzīvus.
But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt had said to them, but saved the male children alive.
18 Tad Ēģiptes ķēniņš tās bērnu saņēmējas aicināja un uz tām sacīja: kādēļ jūs to esat darījušas un tos puisēnus atstājušas dzīvus?
And the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, Why have ye done this, and saved the male children alive?
19 Un tās bērnu saņēmējas sacīja uz Faraonu: tādēļ ka Ebreju sievas nav kā ēģiptiešu sievas; jo tās ir stipras; pirms bērnu saņēmēja pie tām atnāk, tās jau ir dzemdējušas.
And the midwives said to Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian; for they are strong, and they have borne before the midwife comes to them.
20 Tāpēc Dievs tām bērnu saņēmējām darīja labu, un tie ļaudis vairojās un tapa vareni.
And God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and became very strong.
21 Un tāpēc ka tās bērnu saņēmējas Dievu bijās, viņš tām darīja namus.
And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
22 Tad Faraons pavēlēja visiem saviem ļaudīm un sacīja: jums visus dēlus, kas piedzimst, būs iemest upē, bet visas meitas atstāt dzīvas.
Then Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, but every daughter ye shall save alive.
