< Psalmorum 63 >

1 psalmus David cum esset in deserto Iudaeae Deus Deus meus ad te de luce vigilo sitivit in te anima mea quam multipliciter tibi caro mea
A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, my God, you, you do I seek: my heart thirsts for you, my body faints for you in a parched and waterless land.
2 in terra deserta et invia et inaquosa sic in sancto apparui tibi ut viderem virtutem tuam et gloriam tuam
As I in the temple have seen you, beholding your power and your glory,
3 quoniam melior est misericordia tua super vitas labia mea laudabunt te
for better than life is your kindness: my lips shall utter your praise.
4 sic benedicam te in vita mea in nomine tuo levabo manus meas
So, while I live, I will bless you, and lift up my hands in your name.
5 sicut adipe et pinguidine repleatur anima mea et labia exultationis laudabit os meum
As with marrow and fat am I feasted; with joyful lips I will praise you.
6 si memor fui tui super stratum meum in matutinis meditabar in te
I call you to mind on my bed, and muse on you in the night watches;
7 quia fuisti adiutor meus et in velamento alarum tuarum exultabo
for you have been my help, I joyfully sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 adhesit anima mea post te me suscepit dextera tua
I cling close after you, your right hand holds me up.
9 ipsi vero in vanum quaesierunt animam meam introibunt in inferiora terrae
But those who seek after my life shall go down to the depths of the earth,
10 tradentur in manus gladii partes vulpium erunt
given o’er to the power of the sword, or as prey for jackals to devour.
11 rex vero laetabitur in Deo laudabitur omnis qui iurat in eo quia obstructum est os loquentium iniqua
But the king shall rejoice in God: all who own his allegiance will glory. For the mouth of the false shall be stopped.
