< Psalmorum 45 >

1 in finem pro his qui commutabuntur filiis Core ad intellectum canticum pro dilecto eructavit cor meum verbum bonum dico ego opera mea regi lingua mea calamus scribae velociter scribentis
For the leader; on shoshannim. Of the Korahites. A maskil. A love song. My heart is astir with beautiful words: I will sing a song, concerning the king, with tongue like the pen of a ready writer.
2 speciosus forma prae filiis hominum diffusa est gratia in labiis tuis propterea benedixit te Deus in aeternum
Your beauty is more than mortal, grace is shed over your lips: therefore God has blessed you forever.
3 accingere gladio tuo super femur tuum potentissime
Warrior, strap your sword on your thigh. What glory and splendor!
4 specie tua et pulchritudine tua et intende prospere procede et regna propter veritatem et mansuetudinem et iustitiam et deducet te mirabiliter dextera tua
Good fortune attend you, as forth you ride in the cause of good faith, and as champion of justice. May your arm instruct you in deeds of dread.
5 sagittae tuae acutae populi sub te cadent in corde inimicorum regis
Sharp are your arrows; nations fall under you: pierced to the heart are the foes of the king.
6 sedis tua Deus in saeculum saeculi virga directionis virga regni tui
Your throne shall endure for ever and ever your royal sceptre a sceptre of equity.
7 dilexisti iustitiam et odisti iniquitatem propterea unxit te Deus Deus tuus oleo laetitiae prae consortibus tuis
Right you love and wrong you hate: therefore the Lord your God anoints you With oil of gladness above your fellows.
8 murra et gutta et cassia a vestimentis tuis a domibus eburneis ex quibus delectaverunt te
With myrrh, aloes, and cassia your robes are all fragrant, you are gladdened by music of ivory harps.
9 filiae regum in honore tuo adstetit regina a dextris tuis in vestitu deaurato circumdata varietate
King’s daughters stand ready with jewels for you, at your right hand the queen in gold of Ophir.
10 audi filia et vide et inclina aurem tuam et obliviscere populum tuum et domum patris tui
Listen, daughter, and see; and incline your ear: forget your folk and your father’s house.
11 et concupiscet rex decorem tuum quoniam ipse est dominus tuus et adorabunt eum
And when the king desires your beauty, bow to him, for he is your lord.
12 et; filiae Tyri in muneribus vultum tuum deprecabuntur divites plebis
So shall the Tyrians come with gifts, and the richest of people will do you homage.
13 omnis gloria eius filiae regis ab intus in fimbriis aureis
The king’s daughter is glorious altogether, with dress of pearls inwrought with gold.
14 circumamicta varietatibus adducentur regi virgines post eam proximae eius adferentur tibi
In many-coloured robes she is led to the king, with the virgin companions she brought in her train.
15 adferentur in laetitia et exultatione adducentur in templum regis
The king’s palace they enter with joy and rejoicing.
16 pro patribus tuis nati sunt tibi filii constitues eos principes super omnem terram
May sons of yours take the place of your fathers, whom you will make princes in all the land.
17 memor ero nominis tui in omni generatione et generatione propterea populi confitebuntur tibi in aeternum et in saeculum saeculi
Your name will I celebrate world without end, so that nations shall praise you for ever and ever.
