< Proverbiorum 10 >
1 parabolae Salomonis filius sapiens laetificat patrem filius vero stultus maestitia est matris suae
Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causes a father to rejoice, And a foolish son [is] an affliction to his mother.
2 non proderunt thesauri impietatis iustitia vero liberabit a morte
Treasures of wickedness do not profit, And righteousness delivers from death.
3 non adfliget Dominus fame animam iusti et insidias impiorum subvertet
YHWH does not cause the soul of the righteous to hunger, And He thrusts away the desire of the wicked.
4 egestatem operata est manus remissa manus autem fortium divitias parat
Poor [is] he who is working [with] a slothful hand, And the hand of the diligent makes rich.
5 qui congregat in messe filius sapiens est qui autem stertit aestate filius confusionis
Whoever is gathering in summer [is] a wise son, Whoever is sleeping in harvest [is] a son causing shame.
6 benedictio super caput iusti os autem impiorum operit iniquitatem
Blessings [are] for the head of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked covers violence.
7 memoria iusti cum laudibus et nomen impiorum putrescet
The remembrance of the righteous [is] for a blessing, And the name of the wicked rots.
8 sapiens corde praecepta suscipiet stultus caeditur labiis
The wise in heart accepts commands, And a talkative fool kicks.
9 qui ambulat simpliciter ambulat confidenter qui autem depravat vias suas manifestus erit
Whoever is walking in integrity walks confidently, And whoever is perverting his ways is known.
10 qui annuit oculo dabit dolorem stultus labiis verberabitur
Whoever is winking the eye gives grief, And a talkative fool kicks.
11 vena vitae os iusti et os impiorum operiet iniquitatem
A fountain of life [is] the mouth of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked covers violence.
12 odium suscitat rixas et universa delicta operit caritas
Hatred awakens contentions, And love covers over all transgressions.
13 in labiis sapientis invenietur sapientia et virga in dorso eius qui indiget corde
Wisdom is found in the lips of the intelligent, And a rod [is] for the back of him who is lacking understanding.
14 sapientes abscondunt scientiam os autem stulti confusioni proximum est
The wise lay up knowledge, and the mouth of a fool [is] near ruin.
15 substantia divitis urbs fortitudinis eius pavor pauperum egestas eorum
The wealth of the rich [is] his strong city, The ruin of the poor [is] their poverty.
16 opus iusti ad vitam fructus impii ad peccatum
The wage of the righteous [is] for life, The increase of the wicked for sin.
17 via vitae custodienti disciplinam qui autem increpationes relinquit errat
A traveler to life [is] he who is keeping instruction, And whoever is forsaking rebuke is erring.
18 abscondunt odium labia mendacia qui profert contumeliam insipiens est
Whoever is covering hatred with lying lips, And whoever is bringing out an evil report is a fool.
19 in multiloquio peccatum non deerit qui autem moderatur labia sua prudentissimus est
In the abundance of words transgression does not cease, And whoever is restraining his lips [is] wise.
20 argentum electum lingua iusti cor impiorum pro nihilo
The tongue of the righteous [is] chosen silver, The heart of the wicked—as a little thing.
21 labia iusti erudiunt plurimos qui autem indocti sunt in cordis egestate morientur
The lips of the righteous delight many, And fools die for lack of heart.
22 benedictio Domini divites facit nec sociabitur ei adflictio
The blessing of YHWH—it makes rich, And He adds no grief with it.
23 quasi per risum stultus operatur scelus sapientia autem est viro prudentia
To execute inventions [is] as play to a fool, And wisdom to a man of understanding.
24 quod timet impius veniet super eum desiderium suum iustis dabitur
The feared thing of the wicked meets him, And the desire of the righteous is given.
25 quasi tempestas transiens non erit impius iustus autem quasi fundamentum sempiternum
As the passing by of a windstorm, So the wicked is not, And the righteous is a perpetual foundation.
26 sicut acetum dentibus et fumus oculis sic piger his qui miserunt eum
As vinegar to the teeth, And as smoke to the eyes, So [is] the slothful to those sending him.
27 timor Domini adponet dies et anni impiorum breviabuntur
The fear of YHWH adds days, And the years of the wicked are shortened.
28 expectatio iustorum laetitia spes autem impiorum peribit
The hope of the righteous [is] joyful, And the expectation of the wicked perishes.
29 fortitudo simplicis via Domini et pavor his qui operantur malum
The way of YHWH [is] strength to the perfect, And ruin to workers of iniquity.
30 iustus in aeternum non commovebitur impii autem non habitabunt in terram
The righteous is not moved for all time, And the wicked do not inhabit the earth.
31 os iusti parturiet sapientiam lingua pravorum peribit
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, And the tongue of contrariness is cut out.
32 labia iusti considerant placita et os impiorum perversa
The lips of the righteous know a pleasing thing, And the mouth of the wicked perverseness!
