Iosue 21
1 accesseruntque principes familiarum Levi ad Eleazar sacerdotem et Iosue filium Nun et ad duces cognationum per singulas tribus filiorum Israhel
And the heads of the fathers of the Levites draw near to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel,
2 locutique sunt ad eos in Silo terrae Chanaan atque dixerunt Dominus praecepit per manum Mosi ut darentur nobis urbes ad habitandum et suburbana earum ad alenda iumenta
and they speak to them in Shiloh, in the land of Canaan, saying, “YHWH commanded by the hand of Moses to give to us cities to dwell in, and their outskirts for our livestock.”
3 dederuntque filii Israhel de possessionibus suis iuxta imperium Domini civitates et suburbana earum
And the sons of Israel give to the Levites, out of their inheritance, at the command of YHWH, these cities and their outskirts:
4 egressaque est sors in familiam Caath filiorum Aaron sacerdotis de tribubus Iuda et Symeon et Beniamin civitates tredecim
and the lot goes out for the families of the Kohathite, and there are for the sons of Aaron the priest (of the Levites), out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities by lot,
5 et reliquis filiorum Caath id est Levitis qui superflui erant de tribubus Ephraim et Dan et dimidia tribu Manasse civitates decem
and for the sons of Kohath who are left, out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities by lot.
6 porro filiis Gerson egressa est sors ut acciperent de tribubus Isachar et Aser et Nepthalim dimidiaque tribu Manasse in Basan civitates numero tredecim
And for the sons of Gershon, out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, [are] thirteen cities by lot.
7 et filiis Merari per cognationes suas de tribubus Ruben et Gad et Zabulon urbes duodecim
For the sons of Merari, for their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, [are] twelve cities.
8 dederuntque filii Israhel Levitis civitates et suburbana earum sicut praecepit Dominus per manum Mosi singulis sorte tribuentes
And the sons of Israel give these cities and their outskirts to the Levites, as YHWH commanded by the hand of Moses, by lot.
9 de tribubus filiorum Iuda et Symeon dedit Iosue civitates quarum ista sunt nomina
And they give out of the tribe of the sons of Judah, and out of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, these cities which are called by name;
10 filiis Aaron per familias Caath levitici generis prima enim sors illis egressa est
and they are for the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathite, of the sons of Levi, for the first lot has been theirs;
11 Cariatharbe patris Enach quae vocatur Hebron in monte Iuda et suburbana eius per circuitum
and they give to them the city of Arba father of Anak (it [is] Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah, and its outskirts around it;
12 agros vero et villas eius dederat Chaleb filio Iepphonne ad possidendum
and they have given the field of the city and its villages to Caleb son of Jephunneh for his possession.
13 dedit ergo filiis Aaron sacerdotis Hebron confugii civitatem ac suburbana eius et Lebnam cum suburbanis suis
And to the sons of Aaron the priest they have given the city of refuge [for] the manslayer, Hebron and its outskirts, and Libnah and its outskirts,
14 et Iether et Isthimon
and Jattir and its outskirts, and Eshtemoa and its outskirts,
15 et Helon Dabir
and Holon and its outskirts, and Debir and its outskirts,
16 et Ahin et Iethan et Bethsemes cum suburbanis suis civitates novem de tribubus ut dictum est duabus
and Ain and its outskirts, and Juttah and its outskirts, Beth-Shemesh and its outskirts; nine cities out of these two tribes.
17 de tribu autem filiorum Beniamin Gabaon et Gabee
And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon and its outskirts, Geba and its outskirts,
18 et Anathoth et Almon cum suburbanis suis civitates quattuor
Anathoth and its outskirts, and Almon and its outskirts—four cities;
19 omnes simul civitates filiorum Aaron sacerdotis tredecim cum suburbanis suis
all the cities of the sons of Aaron the priests, [are] thirteen cities and their outskirts.
20 reliquis vero per familias filiorum Caath levitici generis haec est data possessio
And for the families of the sons of Kohath, the Levites, who are left of the sons of Kohath, even the cities of their lot are of the tribe of Ephraim;
21 de tribu Ephraim urbs confugii Sychem cum suburbanis suis in monte Ephraim et Gazer
and they give to them the city of refuge [for] the manslayer, Shechem and its outskirts, in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Gezer and its outskirts,
22 et Cebsain et Bethoron cum suburbanis suis civitates quattuor
and Kibzaim and its outskirts, and Beth-Horon and its outskirts—four cities.
23 de tribu quoque Dan Elthece et Gebbethon
And out of the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh and its outskirts, Gibbethon and its outskirts,
24 et Ahialon et Gethremmon cum suburbanis suis civitates quattuor
Aijalon and its outskirts, Gath-Rimmon and its outskirts—four cities.
25 porro de dimidia tribu Manasse Thanach et Gethremmon cum suburbanis suis civitates duae
And out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach and its outskirts, and Gath-Rimmon and its outskirts—two cities;
26 omnes civitates decem et suburbana earum datae sunt filiis Caath inferioris gradus
all the cities [are] ten and their outskirts, for the families of the sons of Kohath who are left.
27 filiis quoque Gerson levitici generis dedit de dimidia tribu Manasse confugii civitatem Gaulon in Basan et Bosram cum suburbanis suis civitates duas
And for the sons of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, the city of refuge [for] the manslayer, Golan in Bashan and its outskirts, and Beeshterah and its outskirts—two cities.
28 porro de tribu Isachar Cesion et Dabereth
And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishon and its outskirts, Dabarath and its outskirts,
29 et Iaramoth et Engannim cum suburbanis suis civitates quattuor
Jarmuth and its outskirts, En-Gannim and its outskirts—four cities.
30 de tribu autem Aser Masal et Abdon
And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal and its outskirts, Abdon and its outskirts,
31 et Elacoth et Roob cum suburbanis suis civitates quattuor
Helkath and its outskirts, and Rehob and its outskirts—four cities.
32 de tribu quoque Nepthali civitatem confugii Cedes in Galilea et Ammothdor et Charthan cum suburbanis suis civitates tres
And out of the tribe of Naphtali, the city of refuge [for] the manslayer, Kedesh in Galilee and its outskirts, and Hammoth-Dor and its outskirts, and Kartan and its outskirts—three cities;
33 omnes urbes familiarum Gerson tredecim cum suburbanis suis
all the cities of the Gershonite, for their families, [are] thirteen cities and their outskirts.
34 filiis autem Merari Levitis inferioris gradus per familias suas data est de tribu Zabulon Iechenam et Chartha
And for the families of the sons of Merari, the Levites, who are left, [are, ] out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam and its outskirts, Kartah and its outskirts,
35 et Damna et Nalol civitates quattuor cum suburbanis suis
Dimnah and its outskirts, Nahalal and its outskirts—four cities.
36 [de tribu quoque Ruben ciuitates confugii Bosor in solitudine et Cedson et Misor et Ocho ciuitates quattuor cum suburbanis suis]
And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer and its outskirts, and Jahazah and its outskirts,
37 et de tribu Gad civitates confugii Ramoth in Galaad et Manaim et Esebon et Iazer civitates quattuor cum suburbanis suis
Kedemoth and its outskirts, and Mephaath and its outskirts—four cities.
And out of the tribe of Gad, the city of refuge [for] the manslayer, Ramoth in Gilead and its outskirts, and Mahanaim and its outskirts,
Heshbon and its outskirts, Jazer and its outskirts—four cities [in] all.
40 omnes urbes filiorum Merari per familias et cognationes suas duodecim
All the cities for the sons of Merari, for their families, who are left of the families of the Levites—their lot is twelve cities.
41 itaque universae civitates Levitarum in medio possessionis filiorum Israhel fuerunt quadraginta octo
All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the sons of Israel [are] forty-eight cities, and their outskirts.
42 cum suburbanis suis singulae per familias distributae
These cities are each city and its outskirts around it; so to all these cities.
43 deditque Dominus Israheli omnem terram quam traditurum se patribus eorum iuraverat et possederunt illam atque habitaverunt in ea
And YHWH gives to Israel the whole of the land which He has sworn to give to their fathers, and they possess it, and dwell in it;
44 dataque est ab eo pax in omnes per circuitum nationes nullusque eis hostium resistere ausus est sed cuncti in eorum dicionem redacti sunt
and YHWH gives rest to them all around, according to all that which He has sworn to their fathers, and there has not stood a man in their presence of all their enemies, YHWH has given the whole of their enemies into their hand;
45 ne unum quidem verbum quod illis praestaturum se esse promiserat irritum fuit sed rebus expleta sunt omnia
there has not fallen a thing of all the good thing which YHWH spoke to the house of Israel—the whole has come.
