1 et egressa est sors secunda filiorum Symeon per cognationes suas fuitque hereditas
The second/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Simeon. Each clan in that tribe was allotted some land that was inside the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Judah.
2 eorum in medio possessionis filiorum Iuda Bersabee et Sabee et Molada
Their land included the towns of Beersheba ([which is also named] Sheba), Moladah,
3 et Asersual Bala et Asem
Hazar-Shual, Balah, Ezem,
4 et Heltholath Bethul Arma
Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah,
5 et Seceleg et Bethmarchaboth Asersusa
Ziklag, Beth-Marcaboth. Hazar-Susah,
6 et Bethlebaoth et Saroen civitates tredecim et villae earum
Beth-Lebaoth, and Sharuhen. Altogether there were 13 towns and the surrounding villages.
7 Ahin et Remmon et Athar et Asan civitates quattuor et villae earum
The land allotted to them also included the four cities of Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan, and their surrounding villages.
8 omnes viculi per circuitum urbium istarum usque ad Balaath Berrameth contra australem plagam haec est hereditas filiorum Symeon iuxta cognationes suas
They were also allotted some very small villages in an area that extended south to Baalath-Beer (which is [also named] Ramah, in the southern desert). That was the land allotted to the clans of the tribe of Simeon.
9 in funiculo et possessione filiorum Iuda quia maior erat et idcirco possederunt filii Symeon in medio hereditatis eorum
The tribe of Judah had been allotted much more land than they needed, so part of their land was given to the tribe of Simeon.
10 cecidit quoque sors tertia filiorum Zabulon per cognationes suas et factus est terminus possessionis eorum usque Sarith
The third/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Zebulun. Each clan of that tribe was allotted some of the land. The southern border started at Sarid [city].
11 ascenditque de mari et Medala ac pervenit in Debbaseth usque ad torrentem qui est contra Iecennam
It extended west to Maralah [city] and on to Dabbesheth [city], and on to the brook just north of Jokneam [city].
12 et revertitur de Sarith contra orientem in fines Ceseleththabor et egreditur ad Dabereth ascenditque contra Iafie
The border extended east from Sarid to the area near Kisloth-Tabor [city] and on to Daberath [town] and on to Japhia [town].
13 et inde pertransit ad orientalem plagam Getthefer Etthacasin et egreditur in Remmon Ampthar et Noa
From there it extended east to Gath-Hepher [city] and Eth-Kazin [town], and north to Rimmon [city]. From there the border extended [west] to Neah [town].
14 et circuit ad aquilonem et Nathon suntque egressus eius vallis Iepthahel
From Neah it extended south to Hannathon [city] and from there to Iphtah-El Valley.
15 et Catheth et Nehalal et Semron et Iedala et Bethleem civitates duodecim et villae earum
Their area included the towns of Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem. Altogether there were twelve towns and the surrounding villages.
16 haec est hereditas tribus filiorum Zabulon per cognationes suas urbes et viculi earum
That was the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Zebulun.
17 Isachar egressa est sors quarta per cognationes suas
The fourth/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Issachar. Each of the clans of that tribe was allotted some of the land.
18 fuitque eius hereditas Hiezrahel et Chasaloth et Sunem
Their land included the cities of Jezreel, Kesulloth, Shunem,
19 et Afaraim Seon et Anaarath
Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath,
20 et Rabbith et Cesion Abes
Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez,
21 et Rameth et Engannim et Enadda et Bethfeses
Remeth, En-Gannim, En-Haddah, and Beth-Pazzez.
22 et pervenit terminus usque Thabor et Seesima et Bethsemes eruntque exitus eius Iordanes civitates sedecim et villae earum
The border of the area that was allotted to the tribe of Issachar was close to Tabor, Shahazumah, and Beth-Shemesh [cities], and ended [in the east] at the Jordan [River]. Altogether there were 16 cities and the surrounding villages.
23 haec est possessio filiorum Isachar per cognationes suas urbes et viculi earum
Those cities and villages were in the land allotted to the clans of the tribe of Issachar.
24 cecidit sors quinta tribui filiorum Aser per cognationes suas
The fifth/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Asher. Each of the clans in that tribe was allotted some of the land.
25 fuitque terminus eorum Alchath et Oali et Beten et Axab
Their land included the towns of Helkath, Hali, Beten, Acshaph,
26 Elmelech et Amaad et Messal et pervenit usque ad Carmelum maris et Siorlabanath
Allammelech, Amad, and Mishal. The western border started at Carmel [Mountain] and Shihor-Libnath.
27 ac revertitur contra orientem Bethdagon et pertransit usque Zabulon et vallem Iepthahel contra aquilonem in Bethemech et Neihel egrediturque ad levam Chabul
From there it extended [southeast] to Beth-Dagon [town], and then to [the area that was allotted to the tribe of] Zebulun and Iphtah-El Valley. From there the border extended east and then north to Beth-Emek [town] and Neiel and Cabul [towns].
28 et Achran et Roob et Amon et Canae usque ad Sidonem magnam
From there it extended west to Abdon, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah [cities], and continued to Sidon, which is a big city.
29 revertiturque in Orma usque ad civitatem munitissimam Tyrum et usque Osa eruntque exitus eius in mare de funiculo Acziba
From there the border extended south toward Ramah and to the big city of Tyre that had strong walls around it. From there the border extended [west] to Hosah [town] and ended at the [Mediterranean] Sea. Within their area were the towns of Aczib,
30 et Amma et Afec et Roob civitates viginti duae et villae earum
Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob. Altogether there were 22 towns and their surrounding villages.
31 haec est possessio filiorum Aser per cognationes suas urbes et viculi earum
Those cities and villages were within the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Asher.
32 filiorum Nepthalim sexta pars cecidit per familias suas
The sixth/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Naphtali. Each of the clans in that tribe was allotted some of the land.
33 et coepit terminus de Heleb et Helon in Sananim et Adami quae est Neceb et Iebnahel usque Lecum et egressus eorum usque ad Iordanem
The border of their land started [in the west] at the [huge] oak tree at Zaanannim, near Heleph [town]. It extended [east] through Adami-Nekeb [city] and Jabneel, and then to Lakkum, and ended at the Jordan [River].
34 revertiturque terminus contra occidentem in Aznoththabor atque inde egreditur in Ucoca et pertransit in Zabulon contra meridiem et in Aser contra occidentem et in Iuda ad Iordanem contra ortum solis
The western boundary extended through Aznoth-Tabor as far as Hukkok [city]. It extended to the borders of [the tribe of] Zebulun at the south, to [the border of the tribe of] Asher on the west, and the Jordan [River] at the east.
35 civitates munitissimae Aseddim Ser et Ammath et Recchath Chenereth
[Within their land were] several cities with strong walls around them. They were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Kinnereth,
36 et Edema et Arama Asor
Adamah, Ramah, Hazor,
37 et Cedes et Edrai Nasor
Kedesh, Edrei, En-Hazor,
38 et Ieron et Magdalel Horem et Bethanath et Bethsemes civitates decem et novem et villae earum
Iron, Migdal-El, Horem, Beth-Anath, and Beth-Shemesh. Altogether there were 19 cities and the surrounding villages.
39 haec est possessio tribus filiorum Nepthali per cognationes suas urbes et viculi earum
Those cities and surrounding villages were in the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Naphtali.
40 tribui filiorum Dan per familias suas egressa est sors septima
The seventh/last tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Dan. Each of the clans in that tribe was allotted some of the land.
41 et fuit terminus possessionis eius Saraa et Esthaol et Ahirsemes id est civitas Solis
Their land included the towns of Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-Shemesh,
42 Selebin et Ahialon et Iethela
Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah,
43 Helon et Themna et Acron
Elon, Timnah, Ekron,
44 Helthecen et Gebthon et Baalath
Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,
45 Iud et Benebarach et Gethremmon
Jehud, Bene-Berak, Gath-Rimmon,
46 aquae Hiercon et Areccon cum termino qui respicit Ioppen
Me-Jarkon, Rakkon, and the area near Joppa.
47 et ipso fine concluditur ascenderuntque filii Dan et pugnaverunt contra Lesem ceperuntque eam et percusserunt in ore gladii ac possederunt et habitaverunt in ea vocantes nomen eius Lesemdan ex nomine Dan patris sui
But the people of the tribe of Dan were unable to take control of the land that had been allotted to them. So they went [northeast] and fought against the people in Leshem [city]. They defeated and killed all the people who lived there. Then they began to live in Leshem, and changed the name of the city to Dan, the man from whom their tribe descended.
48 haec est possessio tribus filiorum Dan per cognationes suas urbes et viculi earum
All of those towns and surrounding villages were in the land that was allotted to the clans in the tribe of Dan.
49 cumque conplesset terram sorte dividere singulis per tribus suas dederunt filii Israhel possessionem Iosue filio Nun in medio sui
After the Israeli leaders divided the land among the tribes, they allotted some land to Joshua.
50 iuxta praeceptum Domini urbem quam postulavit Thamnathseraa in monte Ephraim et aedificavit civitatem habitavitque in ea
They allotted to him Timnath-Serah. Yahweh had said that he could have whatever city he wanted, and that was the city that he chose. It was in the hilly region which was allotted to the tribe of Ephraim. Joshua rebuilt the city and lived there.
51 hae sunt possessiones quas sorte diviserunt Eleazar sacerdos et Iosue filius Nun et principes familiarum ac tribuum filiorum Israhel in Silo coram Domino ad ostium tabernaculi testimonii partitique sunt terram
Those were the areas that were allotted to the various tribes of Israel. Eleazar the Supreme Priest and Joshua and the leaders of each tribe divided up the land while they were all at Shiloh, by (casting lots/throwing marked stones) [to decide which area each tribe would receive]. They did that while Yahweh was watching, at the entrance of the Sacred Tent. In that way they completed dividing up the land.
