Job 10
1 taedet animam meam vitae meae dimittam adversum me eloquium meum loquar in amaritudine animae meae
My soul hath been weary of my life, I leave off my talking to myself, I speak in the bitterness of my soul.
2 dicam Deo noli me condemnare indica mihi cur me ita iudices
I say unto God, 'Do not condemn me, Let me know why Thou dost strive [with] me.
3 numquid bonum tibi videtur si calumnieris et opprimas me opus manuum tuarum et consilium impiorum adiuves
Is it good for Thee that Thou dost oppress? That Thou despisest the labour of Thy hands, And on the counsel of the wicked hast shone?
4 numquid oculi carnei tibi sunt aut sicut videt homo et tu videbis
Eyes of flesh hast Thou? As man seeth — seest Thou?
5 numquid sicut dies hominis dies tui et anni tui sicut humana sunt tempora
As the days of man [are] Thy days? Thy years as the days of a man?
6 ut quaeras iniquitatem meam et peccatum meum scruteris
That Thou inquirest for mine iniquity, And for my sin seekest?
7 et scias quia nihil impium fecerim cum sit nemo qui de manu tua possit eruere
For Thou knowest that I am not wicked, And there is no deliverer from Thy hand.
8 manus tuae plasmaverunt me et fecerunt me totum in circuitu et sic repente praecipitas me
Thy hands have taken pains about me, And they make me together round about, And Thou swallowest me up!
9 memento quaeso quod sicut lutum feceris me et in pulverem reduces me
Remember, I pray Thee, That as clay Thou hast made me, And unto dust Thou dost bring me back.
10 nonne sicut lac mulsisti me et sicut caseum me coagulasti
Dost Thou not as milk pour me out? And as cheese curdle me?
11 pelle et carnibus vestisti me et ossibus et nervis conpegisti me
Skin and flesh Thou dost put on me, And with bones and sinews dost fence me.
12 vitam et misericordiam tribuisti mihi et visitatio tua custodivit spiritum meum
Life and kindness Thou hast done with me. And Thy inspection hath preserved my spirit.
13 licet haec celes in corde tuo tamen scio quia universorum memineris
And these Thou hast laid up in Thy heart, I have known that this [is] with Thee.
14 si peccavi et ad horam pepercisti mihi cur ab iniquitate mea mundum me esse non pateris
If I sinned, then Thou hast observed me, And from mine iniquity dost not acquit me,
15 et si impius fuero vae mihi est et si iustus non levabo caput saturatus adflictione et miseria
If I have done wickedly — woe to me, And righteously — I lift not up my head, Full of shame — then see my affliction,
16 et propter superbiam quasi leaenam capies me reversusque mirabiliter me crucias
And it riseth — as a lion Thou huntest me. And Thou turnest back — Thou shewest Thyself wonderful in me.
17 instauras testes tuos contra me et multiplicas iram tuam adversum me et poenae militant in me
Thou renewest Thy witnesses against me, And dost multiply Thine anger with me, Changes and warfare [are] with me.
18 quare de vulva eduxisti me qui utinam consumptus essem ne oculus me videret
And why from the womb Hast Thou brought me forth? I expire, and the eye doth not see me.
19 fuissem quasi qui non essem de utero translatus ad tumulum
As I had not been, I am, From the belly to the grave I am brought,
20 numquid non paucitas dierum meorum finietur brevi dimitte ergo me ut plangam paululum dolorem meum
Are not my days few? Cease then, and put from me, And I brighten up a little,
21 antequam vadam et non revertar ad terram tenebrosam et opertam mortis caligine
Before I go, and return not, Unto a land of darkness and death-shade,
22 terram miseriae et tenebrarum ubi umbra mortis et nullus ordo et sempiternus horror inhabitans
A land of obscurity as thick darkness, Death-shade — and no order, And the shining [is] as thick darkness.'
