< Timotheum Ii 1 >

Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ, by the will of God, on account of the promise of life, which is by Christ Jesus;
2 Timotheo carissimo filio gratia misericordia pax a Deo Patre et Christo Iesu Domino nostro
to Timothy, my beloved son: Favor, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 gratias ago Deo cui servio a progenitoribus in conscientia pura quam sine intermissione habeam tui memoriam in orationibus meis nocte ac die
I give thanks to God, (whom from my forefathers I serve with a pure conscience, ) that I have unceasing remembrance of you in my prayers night and day;
4 desiderans te videre memor lacrimarum tuarum ut gaudio implear
remembering your tears, I greatly desire to see you, that I may be filled with joy:
5 recordationem accipiens eius fidei quae est in te non ficta quae et habitavit primum in avia tua Loide et matre tua Eunice certus sum autem quod et in te
calling to remembrance also the unfeigned faith which is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and in your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that it dwells in you also.
For which cause I put you in mind to stir up the spiritual gift of God, which is in you through the imposition of my hands.
For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice; but of power, and of love, and of self-government.
Wherefore, be not ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but jointly suffer evil for the gospel, according to the power of God;
who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, --not on account of our works; but on account of his own purpose and favor, which was given us through Christ Jesus, before the times of the ages, (aiōnios g166)
and is now manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ; who has, indeed, vanquished death, and brought life and incorruptibility to light by the gospel:
11 in quo positus sum ego praedicator et apostolus et magister gentium
of which I am appointed a herald, and an Apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles:
12 ob quam causam etiam haec patior sed non confundor scio enim cui credidi et certus sum quia potens est depositum meum servare in illum diem
for which cause I also suffer these things. Nevertheless, I am not ashamed; for I know in whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to preserve what I have committed in trust to him, till that day.
13 formam habe sanorum verborum quae a me audisti in fide et dilectione in Christo Iesu
The form of wholesome words, which you have heard from me, hold fast, with the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
The good deposit guard by the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us.
15 scis hoc quod aversi sunt a me omnes qui in Asia sunt ex quibus est Phygelus et Hermogenes
You know this, that all they who are in Asia have turned me off; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
16 det misericordiam Dominus Onesifori domui quia saepe me refrigeravit et catenam meam non erubuit
May the Lord grant mercy to the family of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
17 sed cum Romam venisset sollicite me quaesivit et invenit
but being in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
18 det illi Dominus invenire misericordiam a Domino in illa die et quanta Ephesi ministravit melius tu nosti
May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord in that day! And how many services he rendered to me in Ephesus, you well know.
