< Psalmorum 2 >
Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain?
2 Dirumpamus vincula eorum: et proiiciamus a nobis iugum ipsorum.
The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed:
3 Qui habitat in caelis irridebit eos: et Dominus subsannabit eos.
"Let's tear off their shackles, and throw off their ropes from us."
The one who sits in the heavens laughs. The LORD scoffs at them.
Then he will speak to them in his anger, and terrify them in his wrath:
6 Dominus dixit ad me: Filius meus es tu, ego hodie genui te.
"But I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain."
7 Postula a me, et dabo tibi Gentes hereditatem tuam, et possessionem tuam terminos terrae.
I will tell of the decree. The LORD said to me, "You are my son. Today I have become your father.
8 Reges eos in virga ferrea, et tamquam vas figuli confringes eos.
Ask of me, and I will give the nations as your inheritance, and the farthest parts of the earth for your possession.
You shall rule them with an iron scepter. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."
10 Servite Domino in timore: et exultate ei cum tremore.
Now therefore, you kings, be wise; receive correction, you judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Do homage in purity, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when his anger is suddenly kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.
