< Psalmorum 114 >

1 Alleluia. In exitu Israel de Aegypto, domus Iacob de populo barbaro:
When Israel went forth out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of a strange language:
2 Facta est Iudaea sanctificatio eius, Israel potestas eius.
Judah became his sanctuary, [and] Israel his dominion.
3 Mare vidit, et fugit: Iordanis conversus est retrorsum.
The sea beheld it, and fled: the Jordan was driven backward.
4 Montes exultaverunt ut arietes: et colles sicut agni ovium.
The mountains skipped like wethers, the hills like lambs.
5 Quid est tibi mare quod fugisti: et tu Iordanis, quia conversus es retrorsum?
What aileth thee, O sea, that thou fleest? thou, O Jordan, that thou art driven backward?
6 Montes exultastis sicut arietes, et colles sicut agni ovium?
Ye mountains, that ye skip like wethers? ye hills, like lambs?
7 A facie Domini mota est terra, a facie Dei Iacob.
At the presence of the Lord tremble, O earth, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
8 Qui convertit petram in stagna aquarum, et rupem in fontes aquarum.
Who changeth the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of water.
