< Mattheum 18 >

1 In illa hora accesserunt discipuli ad Iesum, dicentes: Quis putas, maior est in regno caelorum?
In that hour the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who is greater in the kingdom of heaven?”
2 Et advocans Iesus parvulum, statuit eum in medio eorum,
So Jesus called over a little child, placed him among them,
3 et dixit: Amen dico vobis, nisi conversi fueritis, et efficiamini sicut parvuli, non intrabitis in regnum caelorum.
and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you change and become like little children, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
4 Quicumque ergo humiliaverit se sicut parvulus iste, hic est maior in regno caelorum.
Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this little child is greater in the kingdom of heaven.
5 Et qui susceperit unum parvulum talem in nomine meo, me suscipit.
And whoever receives one little child such as this in my name receives me.
6 qui autem scandalizaverit unum de pusillis istis, qui in me credunt, expedit ei ut suspendatur mola asinaria in collo eius, et demergatur in profundum maris.
But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
7 Vae mundo a scandalis. Necesse est enim ut veniant scandala: verumtamen vae homini illi, per quem scandalum venit.
“Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! It is necessary that stumbling blocks come, yet woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!
8 Si autem manus tua, vel pes tuus scandalizat te: abscinde eum, et proiice abs te: bonum tibi est ad vitam ingredi debilem, vel claudum, quam duas manus, vel duos pedes habentem mitti in ignem aeternum. (aiōnios g166)
If yoʋr hand or yoʋr foot causes yoʋ to stumble, cut them off and throw them away from yoʋ. It is better for yoʋ to enter life lame or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. (aiōnios g166)
9 Et si oculus tuus scandalizat te, erue eum, et proiice abs te: bonum tibi est cum uno oculo in vitam intrare, quam duos oculos habentem mitti in gehennam ignis. (Geenna g1067)
And if yoʋr eye causes yoʋ to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from yoʋ. It is better for yoʋ to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fires of hell. (Geenna g1067)
10 Videte ne contemnatis unum ex his pusillis: dico enim vobis, quia angeli eorum in caelis semper vident faciem patris mei, qui in caelis est.
“Be careful not to despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of my Father in heaven.
11 Venit enim filius hominis salvare quod perierat.
For the Son of Man came to save the lost.
12 Quid vobis videtur? si fuerint alicui centum oves, et erravit una ex eis: nonne relinquit nonagintanovem in montibus, et vadit quaerere eam, quae erravit?
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the other ninety-nine and go seek on the mountains the one that has gone astray?
13 et si contigerit ut inveniat eam: amen dico vobis, quia gaudet super eam magis quam super nonagintanovem, quae non erraverunt.
And if he happens to find it, truly I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray.
14 Sic non est voluntas ante Patrem vestrum, qui in caelis est, ut pereat unus de pusillis istis.
In the same way, it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
15 Si autem peccaverit in te frater tuus, vade, et corripe eum inter te, et ipsum solum. si te audierit, lucratus eris fratrem tuum.
“If yoʋr brother sins against yoʋ, go show him his fault between yoʋ and him alone. If he listens to yoʋ, yoʋ have gained yoʋr brother.
16 si autem te non audierit, adhibe tecum adhuc unum, vel duos, ut in ore duorum, vel trium testium stet omne verbum.
But if he does not listen, take one or two others with yoʋ, so that every matter may be established by the mouth of two or three witnesses.
17 Quod si non audierit eos: dic ecclesiae. si autem ecclesiam non audierit: sit tibi sicut ethnicus, et publicanus.
If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
18 Amen dico vobis, quaecumque alligaveritis super terram, erunt ligata et in caelo: et quaecumque solveritis super terram, erunt soluta et in caelo.
Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
19 Iterum dico vobis, quia si duo ex vobis consenserint super terram, de omni re quamcumque petierint, fiet illis a patre meo, qui in caelis est.
Again, truly I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.
20 Ubi enim sunt duo, vel tres congregati in nomine meo, ibi sum in medio eorum.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.”
21 Tunc accedens Petrus ad eum, dixit: Domine quoties peccabit in me frater meus, et dimittam ei? usque septies?
Then Peter came to Jesus and said, “Lord, how many times must I forgive my brother when he keeps sinning against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Dicit illi Iesus: Non dico tibi usque septies: sed usque septuagies septies.
Jesus said to him, “Not, I tell yoʋ, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
23 Ideo assimilatum est regnum caelorum homini regi, qui voluit rationem ponere cum servis suis.
“For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.
24 Et cum coepisset rationem ponere, oblatus est ei unus, qui debebat ei decem millia talenta.
As he began to settle accounts, one servant who had a debt of ten thousand talents was brought to him.
25 Cum autem non haberet unde redderet, iussit eum dominus eius venundari, et uxorem eius, et filios, et omnia quae habebat, et reddi.
But since he did not have anything with which to repay the debt, his master commanded him to be sold along with his wife, his children, and all that he had, so that the debt could be repaid.
26 Procidens autem servus ille, orabat eum, dicens: Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi.
So the servant fell down and bowed before him, saying, ‘Master, be patient with me, and I will repay yoʋ all that I owe.’
27 Misertus autem dominus servi illius, dimisit eum, et debitum dimisit ei.
Moved with compassion, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.
28 Egressus autem servus ille invenit unum de conservis suis, qui debebat ei centum denarios: et tenens suffocavit eum, dicens: Redde quod debes.
But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him, saying, ‘Repay me what yoʋ owe.’
29 Et procidens conservus eius, rogabat eum, dicens: Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi.
So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will repay yoʋ.’
30 Ille autem noluit: sed abiit, et misit eum in carcerem donec redderet debitum.
But he was not willing to do so. Instead, he went and threw him into prison until he should repay what was owed.
31 Videntes autem conservi eius quae fiebant, contristati sunt valde: et venerunt, et narraverunt domino suo omnia quae facta fuerant.
When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed and went and reported to their master all that had happened.
32 Tunc vocavit illum dominus suus: et ait illi: Serve nequam, omne debitum dimisi tibi quoniam rogasti me:
Then the master summoned the servant and said to him, ‘Yoʋ evil servant! I forgave yoʋ all that debt because yoʋ begged me to do so.
33 nonne ergo oportuit et te misereri conservi tui, sicut et ego tui misertus sum?
Should yoʋ not also have had mercy on yoʋr fellow servant, even as I had mercy on yoʋ?’
34 Et iratus dominus eius tradidit eum tortoribus, quoadusque redderet universum debitum.
And in anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured until he should repay all that was owed him.
35 Sic et Pater meus caelestis faciet vobis, si non remiseritis unusquisque fratri suo de cordibus vestris.
My heavenly Father will also do the same to you if each one of you, from your hearts, does not forgive his brother for his trespasses.”
