1 Hic enim Melchisedech, rex Salem, sacerdos Dei summi, qui obviavit Abrahae regresso a caede regum, et benedixit ei:
This for Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, (who *N(k)O*) having met with Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and having blessed him,
2 cui et decimas omnium divisit Abraham: primum quidem qui interpretatur rex iustitiae: deinde autem et rex Salem, quod est, rex pacis,
to whom also a tenth of all apportioned Abraham, first indeed being translated king of righteousness then however also king of Salem, which is king of peace,
3 sine patre, sine matre, sine genealogia, neque initium dierum, neque finem vitae habens, assimilatus autem Filio Dei, manet sacerdos in perpetuum.
Without father, without mother, without genealogy, neither beginning of days nor of life end having, made like however as the Son of God he remains a priest unto all time.
4 Intuemini autem quantus sit hic, cui et decimas dedit de praecipuis Abraham patriarcha.
do consider now how great this one [was], to whom even a tenth Abraham gave out of the best spoils the patriarch.
5 Et quidem de filiis Levi sacerdotium accipientes, mandatum habent decimas sumere a populo secundum legem, id est, a fratribus suis: quamquam et ipsi exierint de lumbis Abrahae.
And those indeed out from the sons of Levi the priestly office receiving a commandment have to take a tenth from the people according to the law, That is from the brothers of them, though having come out of the loin of Abraham.
6 Cuius autem generatio non annumeratur in eis, decimas sumpsit ab Abraham, et hunc, qui habebat repromissiones, benedixit.
The [one] however not tracing his ancestry from them he has collected a tenth (*k*) from Abraham; and the [one who] is having the promises He has blessed.
7 Sine ulla autem contradictione, quod minus est, a meliore benedicitur.
Apart from now all dispute; the inferior by the superior is blessed.
8 Et hic quidem, decimas morientes homines accipiunt: ibi autem contestatur, quia vivit.
And here indeed tithes dying men receive in that place however it is testified that he lives on.
9 Et (ut ita dictum sit) per Abraham, et Levi, qui decimas accepit, decimatus est:
And so a word to speak; through Abraham also Levi the [one] tithes receiving has paid the tithe.
10 adhuc enim in lumbis patris erat, quando obviavit ei Melchisedech.
Still for in the loin of [his] father he was when he met with him (*k*) Melchizedek.
11 Si ergo consummatio per sacerdotium Leviticum erat (populus enim sub ipso legem accepit) quid adhuc necessarium fuit secundum ordinem Melchisedech, alium surgere sacerdotem, et non secundum ordinem Aaron dici?
If indeed then perfection through the Levitical priesthood were — the people for upon (it has received [the] Law — *N(k)O*) what still need [was there] according to the order of Melchizedek [for] another to arise priest and not according to the order of Aaron to be named?
12 Translato enim sacerdotio, necesse est ut et legis translatio fiat.
When is being changed for the priesthood from necessity also of law a change takes place.
13 In quo enim haec dicuntur, de alia tribu est, de qua nullus altari praesto fuit.
[He] concerning whom for are spoken these things to a tribe another has belonged to, from which no [one] has served at the altar.
14 Manifestum est enim quod ex Iuda ortus sit Dominus noster: in qua tribu nihil de sacerdotibus Moyses locutus est.
[It is] evident for that out of Judah has sprung the Lord of us as to which a tribe concerning (priests *N(K)O*) no [thing] Moses spoke.
15 Et amplius adhuc manifestum est: si secundum similitudinem Melchisedech exurgat alius sacerdos,
And more excessive yet evident it is, if according to the likeness of Melchizedek arises a priest another,
16 qui non secundum legem mandati carnalis factus est, sed secundum virtutem vitae insolubilis.
who not according to a law of a commandment (fleshly *N(k)O*) has been constituted but according to [the] power of a life indestructible;
17 Contestatur enim: Quoniam tu es sacerdos in aeternum, secundum ordinem Melchisedech. (aiōn g165)
(It is testified *N(k)O*) for that You [are] a priest to the age according to the order of Melchizedek. (aiōn g165)
18 Reprobatio quidem fit praecedentis mandati, propter infirmitatem eius, et inutilitatem:
A putting away indeed for there is while is preceding [the] commandment because of its weakness and uselessness —
19 nihil enim ad perfectum adduxit lex: introductio vero melioris spei, per quam proximamus ad Deum.
no [thing] for perfected the law — [the] introduction then of a better hope through which we draw near to God.
20 Et quantum est non sine iureiurando (alii quidem sine iureiurando sacerdotes facti sunt,
And to as much as not apart from an oath.
21 hic autem cum iureiurando per eum, qui dixit ad illum: Iuravit Dominus, et non poenitebit eum: tu es sacerdos in aeternum): (aiōn g165)
those ones truly for without an oath are priests having become, [He] however with an oath through the [One] who is saying to Him: Has sworn [the] Lord and not will change His mind; You [are] a priest to the age (according to the order of Melchizedek; *K*) (aiōn g165)
22 in tantum melioris testamenti sponsor factus est Iesus.
By so much (also *no*) of a better covenant has become [the] guarantee Jesus.
23 Et alii quidem plures facti sunt sacerdotes secundum legem, idcirco quod morte prohiberentur permanere:
And those indeed many are having become priests because of by death being prevented from continuing;
24 hic autem eo quod maneat in aeternum, sempiternum habet sacerdotium. (aiōn g165)
However because of the abiding of Him to the age a permanent He holds priesthood; (aiōn g165)
25 Unde et salvare in perpetuum potest accedens per semetipsum ad Deum: semper vivens ad interpellandum pro nobis.
wherefore also to save to the uttermost He is able those drawing near through Him to God always living for to intercede for them.
26 Talis enim decebat ut nobis esset pontifex, sanctus, innocens, impollutus, segregatus a peccatoribus, et excelsior caelis factus:
Such indeed for us (also *no*) was fitting a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and higher than the heavens having become;
27 qui non habet necessitatem quotidie, quemadmodum sacerdotes, prius pro suis delictis hostias offerre, deinde pro populi: hoc enim fecit semel, seipsum offerendo.
who not has every day need as the high priests first for [their] own sins sacrifices to offer up then for those of the people; this for He did once for all Himself having offered up.
28 Lex enim homines constituit sacerdotes infirmitatem habentes: sermo autem iurisiurandi, qui post legem est, Filium in aeternum perfectum. (aiōn g165)
The law for men appoints as high priests having weakness, the word however of the oath which [is] after the law a Son to the age perfected. (aiōn g165)
