< Psalmorum 91 >
1 Laus cantici David. Qui habitat in adjutorio Altissimi, in protectione Dei cæli commorabitur.
He who sitteth under the shelter of the Most High Maketh his abode in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 Dicet Domino: Susceptor meus es tu, et refugium meum; Deus meus, sperabo in eum.
I say to the LORD, Thou art my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust.
3 Quoniam ipse liberavit me de laqueo venantium, et a verbo aspero.
Surely he will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, And from the wasting pestilence;
4 Scapulis suis obumbrabit tibi, et sub pennis ejus sperabis.
He will cover thee with his feathers, And under his wings shalt thou find refuge; His faithfulness shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Scuto circumdabit te veritas ejus: non timebis a timore nocturno;
Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror of the night, Nor of the arrow that flieth by day;
6 a sagitta volante in die, a negotio perambulante in tenebris, ab incursu, et dæmonio meridiano.
Nor of the pestilence that walketh in darkness, Nor of the plague that destroyeth at noonday.
7 Cadent a latere tuo mille, et decem millia a dextris tuis; ad te autem non appropinquabit.
A thousand shall fall by thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But thee it shall not touch.
8 Verumtamen oculis tuis considerabis, et retributionem peccatorum videbis.
Thou shalt only behold with thine eyes, And see the recompense of the wicked.
9 Quoniam tu es, Domine, spes mea; Altissimum posuisti refugium tuum.
Because thou hast made the LORD thy refuge, And the Most High thy habitation,
10 Non accedet ad te malum, et flagellum non appropinquabit tabernaculo tuo.
No evil shall befall thee, Nor any plague come near thy dwelling.
11 Quoniam angelis suis mandavit de te, ut custodiant te in omnibus viis tuis.
For he will give his angels charge over thee, To guard thee in all thy ways.
12 In manibus portabunt te, ne forte offendas ad lapidem pedem tuum.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Super aspidem et basiliscum ambulabis, et conculcabis leonem et draconem.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder; The young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under foot.
14 Quoniam in me speravit, liberabo eum; protegam eum, quoniam cognovit nomen meum.
“Because he loveth me, I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knoweth my name.
15 Clamabit ad me, et ego exaudiam eum; cum ipso sum in tribulatione: eripiam eum, et glorificabo eum.
When he calleth upon me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and bring him to honor.
16 Longitudine dierum replebo eum, et ostendam illi salutare meum.
With long life will I satisfy him, And show him my salvation.”
