< Psalmorum 31 >
1 In finem. Psalmus David, pro extasi. In te, Domine, speravi; non confundar in æternum: in justitia tua libera me.
For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; save me by Your righteousness.
2 Inclina ad me aurem tuam; accelera ut eruas me. Esto mihi in Deum protectorem, et in domum refugii, ut salvum me facias:
Incline Your ear to me; come quickly to my rescue. Be my rock of refuge, the stronghold of my deliverance.
3 quoniam fortitudo mea et refugium meum es tu; et propter nomen tuum deduces me et enutries me.
For You are my rock and my fortress; lead me and guide me for the sake of Your name.
4 Educes me de laqueo hoc quem absconderunt mihi, quoniam tu es protector meus.
You free me from the net laid out for me, for You are my refuge.
5 In manus tuas commendo spiritum meum; redemisti me, Domine Deus veritatis.
Into Your hands I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD, God of truth.
6 Odisti observantes vanitates supervacue; ego autem in Domino speravi.
I hate those who cling to worthless idols, but in the LORD I trust.
7 Exsultabo, et lætabor in misericordia tua, quoniam respexisti humilitatem meam; salvasti de necessitatibus animam meam.
I will be glad and rejoice in Your loving devotion, for You have seen my affliction; You have known the anguish of my soul.
8 Nec conclusisti me in manibus inimici: statuisti in loco spatioso pedes meos.
You have not delivered me to the enemy; You have set my feet in the open.
9 Miserere mei, Domine, quoniam tribulor; conturbatus est in ira oculus meus, anima mea, et venter meus.
Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes fail from sorrow, my soul and body as well.
10 Quoniam defecit in dolore vita mea, et anni mei in gemitibus. Infirmata est in paupertate virtus mea, et ossa mea conturbata sunt.
For my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my iniquity has drained my strength, and my bones are wasting away.
11 Super omnes inimicos meos factus sum opprobrium, et vicinis meis valde, et timor notis meis; qui videbant me foras fugerunt a me.
Among all my enemies I am a disgrace, and among my neighbors even more. I am dreaded by my friends— they flee when they see me on the street.
12 Oblivioni datus sum, tamquam mortuus a corde; factus sum tamquam vas perditum:
I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind. I am like a broken vessel.
13 quoniam audivi vituperationem multorum commorantium in circuitu. In eo dum convenirent simul adversum me, accipere animam meam consiliati sunt.
For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side. They conspire against me and plot to take my life.
14 Ego autem in te speravi, Domine; dixi: Deus meus es tu;
But I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”
15 in manibus tuis sortes meæ: eripe me de manu inimicorum meorum, et a persequentibus me.
My times are in Your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.
16 Illustra faciem tuam super servum tuum; salvum me fac in misericordia tua.
Make Your face shine on Your servant; save me by Your loving devotion.
17 Domine, non confundar, quoniam invocavi te. Erubescant impii, et deducantur in infernum; (Sheol )
O LORD, let me not be ashamed, for I have called on You. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them lie silent in Sheol. (Sheol )
18 muta fiant labia dolosa, quæ loquuntur adversus justum iniquitatem, in superbia, et in abusione.
May lying lips be silenced— lips that speak with arrogance against the righteous, full of pride and contempt.
19 Quam magna multitudo dulcedinis tuæ, Domine, quam abscondisti timentibus te; perfecisti eis qui sperant in te in conspectu filiorum hominum!
How great is Your goodness which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have bestowed before the sons of men on those who take refuge in You!
20 Abscondes eos in abscondito faciei tuæ a conturbatione hominum; proteges eos in tabernaculo tuo, a contradictione linguarum.
You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the schemes of men. You conceal them in Your shelter from accusing tongues.
21 Benedictus Dominus, quoniam mirificavit misericordiam suam mihi in civitate munita.
Blessed be the LORD, for He has shown me His loving devotion in a city under siege.
22 Ego autem dixi in excessu mentis meæ: Projectus sum a facie oculorum tuorum: ideo exaudisti vocem orationis meæ, dum clamarem ad te.
In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from Your sight!” But You heard my plea for mercy when I called to You for help.
23 Diligite Dominum, omnes sancti ejus, quoniam veritatem requiret Dominus, et retribuet abundanter facientibus superbiam.
Love the LORD, all His saints. The LORD preserves the faithful, but fully repays the arrogant.
24 Viriliter agite, et confortetur cor vestrum, omnes qui speratis in Domino.
Be strong and courageous, all you who hope in the LORD.
