Genesis 5
1 Hic est liber generationis Adam. In die qua creavit Deus hominem, ad similitudinem Dei fecit illum.
Here is a list of the descendants of Adam. When God created humans, he caused them to be like him in many ways.
2 Masculum et feminam creavit eos, et benedixit illis: et vocavit nomen eorum Adam, in die quo creati sunt.
He created one man and one woman. He blessed them, and on the day that he created them, he called them ‘human beings’.
3 Vixit autem Adam centum triginta annis: et genuit ad imaginem et similitudinem suam, vocavitque nomen ejus Seth.
When Adam was 130 years old, he became the father of a son who [grew up to] be just like him. That was the son he named Seth.
4 Et facti sunt dies Adam, postquam genuit Seth, octingenti anni: genuitque filios et filias.
After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 more years, and during those years he became the father of other sons and daughters.
5 Et factum est omne tempus quod vixit Adam, anni nongenti triginta, et mortuus est.
Adam lived 930 years altogether, and then he died.
6 Vixit quoque Seth centum quinque annis, et genuit Enos.
When Seth was 105 years old, he became the father of Enosh.
7 Vixitque Seth, postquam genuit Enos, octingentis septem annis, genuitque filios et filias.
After Enosh was born, Seth lived 807 more years, and became the father of other sons and daughters.
8 Et facti sunt omnes dies Seth nongentorum duodecim annorum, et mortuus est.
Seth lived 912 years altogether, and then he died.
9 Vixit vero Enos nonaginta annis, et genuit Cainan.
When Enosh was 90 years old, he became the father of Kenan.
10 Post cujus ortum vixit octingentis quindecim annis, et genuit filios et filias.
After Kenan was born, Enosh lived 815 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
11 Factique sunt omnes dies Enos nongenti quinque anni, et mortuus est.
Enosh lived 905 years altogether, and then he died.
12 Vixit quoque Cainan septuaginta annis, et genuit Malaleel.
When Kenan was 70 years old, he became the father of Mahalalel.
13 Et vixit Cainan, postquam genuit Malaleel, octingentis quadraginta annis, genuitque filios et filias.
After Mahalalel was born, Kenan lived 840 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
14 Et facti sunt omnes dies Cainan nongenti decem anni, et mortuus est.
Kenan lived 910 years altogether, and then he died.
15 Vixit autem Malaleel sexaginta quinque annis, et genuit Jared.
When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he became the father of Jared.
16 Et vixit Malaleel, postquam genuit Jared, octingentis triginta annis, et genuit filios et filias.
After Jared was born, Mahalalel lived 830 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
17 Et facti sunt omnes dies Malaleel octingenti nonaginta quinque anni, et mortuus est.
Mahalalel lived 895 years altogether, and then he died.
18 Vixitque Jared centum sexaginta duobus annis, et genuit Henoch.
When Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of Enoch.
19 Et vixit Jared, postquam genuit Henoch, octingentis annis, et genuit filios et filias.
Jared lived 800 years after Enoch was born, and he became the father of other sons and daughters.
20 Et facti sunt omnes dies Jared nongenti sexaginta duo anni, et mortuus est.
Jared lived 962 years altogether, and then he died.
21 Porro Henoch vixit sexaginta quinque annis, et genuit Mathusalam.
When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah.
22 Et ambulavit Henoch cum Deo: et vixit, postquam genuit Mathusalam, trecentis annis, et genuit filios et filias.
Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for 300 years after Methuselah was born, and he became the father of other sons and daughters.
23 Et facti sunt omnes dies Henoch trecenti sexaginta quinque anni.
Enoch lived 365 years altogether in close fellowship with God.
24 Ambulavitque cum Deo, et non apparuit: quia tulit eum Deus.
Then one day he disappeared, because God took him away [to be with him in heaven].
25 Vixit quoque Mathusala centum octoginta septem annis, et genuit Lamech.
When Methuselah was 187 years old, he became the father of Lamech.
26 Et vixit Mathusala, postquam genuit Lamech, septingentis octoginta duobus annis, et genuit filios et filias.
Methuselah lived 782 years after Lamech was born, and became the father of other sons and daughters.
27 Et facti sunt omnes dies Mathusala nongenti sexaginta novem anni, et mortuus est.
Methuselah lived 969 years altogether, and then he died.
28 Vixit autem Lamech centum octoginta duobus annis, et genuit filium:
When Lamech was 182 years old, he became the father of a son,
29 vocavitque nomen ejus Noë, dicens: Iste consolabitur nos ab operibus et laboribus manuum nostrarum in terra, cui maledixit Dominus.
whom he named Noah, [which sounds like the Hebrew word that means ‘relief’], because he said, “He will bring us relief from all the hard work we have been doing to produce food from the ground that Yahweh cursed.”
30 Vixitque Lamech, postquam genuit Noë, quingentis nonaginta quinque annis, et genuit filios et filias.
Lamech lived 595 years after Noah was born and became the father of other sons and daughters.
31 Et facti sunt omnes dies Lamech septingenti septuaginta septem anni, et mortuus est.
Lamech lived 777 years altogether, and then he died.
32 Noë vero cum quingentorum esset annorum, genuit Sem, Cham et Japheth.
When Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of a son whom he named Shem. Later he became the father of another son whom he named Ham, and later he became the father of another son whom he named Japheth.
