< Romanos 10 >

1 Fratres, voluntas quidem cordis mei, et obsecratio ad Deum, fit pro illis in salutem.
Brothers, my heart's desire and my prayer to God is for them, that they may be saved.
2 Testimonium enim perhibeo illis quod æmulationem Dei habent, sed non secundum scientiam.
For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
3 Ignorantes enim iustitiam Dei, et suam quærentes statuere, iustitiæ Dei non sunt subiecti.
For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
4 Finis enim legis, Christus, ad iustitiam omni credenti.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
5 Moyses enim scripsit, quoniam iustitiam, quæ ex lege est, qui fecerit homo, vivet in ea.
For Moses writes about the righteousness of the law, "The one who does them will live by them."
6 Quæ autem ex fide est iustitia, sic dicit: Ne dixeris in corde tuo: quis ascendet in cælum? id est, Christum deducere:
But the righteousness which is of faith says this, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will go up into heaven?' (that is, to bring Christ down);
7 aut quis descendet in abyssum? hoc est, Christum a mortuis revocare. (Abyssos g12)
or, 'Who will go down into the deep?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.)" (Abyssos g12)
8 Sed quid dicit Scriptura? Prope est verbum in ore tuo, et in corde tuo: hoc est verbum fidei, quod prædicamus.
But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart;" that is, the message of faith that we proclaim;
9 Quia si confitearis in ore tuo Dominum Iesum, et in corde tuo credideris quod Deus illum suscitavit a mortuis, salvus eris.
because, if you acknowledge with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 Corde enim creditur ad iustitiam: ore autem confessio fit ad salutem.
For with the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth acknowledgment is made, resulting in salvation.
11 Dicit enim Scriptura: Omnis, qui credit in illum, non confundetur.
For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame."
12 Non enim est distinctio Iudæi, et Græci: nam idem Dominus omnium, dives in omnes, qui invocant illum.
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord of all is rich to all who call on him.
13 Omnis enim, quicumque invocaverit nomen Domini, salvus erit.
For, "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved."
14 Quomodo ergo invocabunt, in quem non crediderunt? Aut quomodo credent ei, quem non audierunt? Quomodo autem audient sine prædicante?
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without someone preaching?
15 Quomodo vero prædicabunt nisi mittantur? sicut scriptum est: Quam speciosi pedes evangelizantium pacem, evangelizantium bona!
And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of peace, who bring good news of good things."
16 Sed non omnes obediunt Evangelio. Isaias enim dicit: Domine quis credidit auditui nostro?
But they did not all listen to the Good News. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?"
17 Ergo fides ex auditu, auditus autem per verbum Christi.
So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
18 Sed dico: Numquid non audierunt? Et quidem in omnem terram exivit sonus eorum, et in fines orbis terræ verba eorum.
But I ask, isn't it rather that they did not hear? On the contrary, "Their voice has gone out to all the earth, their words to the farthest parts of the world."
19 Sed dico: Numquid Israel non cognovit? Primus Moyses dicit: Ego ad æmulationem vos adducam in non gentem: in gentem insipientem, in iram vos mittam.
But I ask, did not Israel know? First Moses says, "I will provoke you to jealousy with that which is not a people. I will make you angry with a foolish nation."
20 Isaias autem audet, et dicit: Inventus sum a non quærentibus me: palam apparui iis, qui me non interrogabant.
Isaiah is very bold, and says, "I was found by those who did not seek me. I was revealed to those who did not ask for me."
21 Ad Israel autem dicit: Tota die expandi manus meas ad populum non credentem, et contradicentem.
But as to Israel he says, "All day long I have stretched out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people."
