< Psalmorum 38 >

1 Psalmus David, in rememorationem de sabbato. Domine ne in furore tuo arguas me, neque in ira tua corripias me.
[A Psalm by David, for a memorial.] LORD, do not rebuke me in your wrath, neither chasten me in your hot displeasure.
2 Quoniam sagittæ tuæ infixæ sunt mihi: et confirmasti super me manum tuam.
For your arrows have pierced me, your hand presses hard on me.
3 Non est sanitas in carne mea a facie iræ tuæ: non est pax ossibus meis a facie peccatorum meorum.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.
For my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
5 Putruerunt et corruptæ sunt cicatrices meæ, a facie insipientiæ meæ.
My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, because of my foolishness.
6 Miser factus sum, et curvatus sum usque in finem: tota die contristatus ingrediebar.
I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all day long.
For my waist is filled with burning. There is no soundness in my flesh.
8 Afflictus sum, et humiliatus sum nimis: rugiebam a gemitu cordis mei.
I am faint and severely bruised. I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart.
Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you.
My heart throbs. My strength fails me. As for the light of my eyes, it has also left me.
My loved ones and my friends keep their distance because of my affliction. My kinsmen stand far away.
They also who seek after my life lay snares. Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all day long.
But I, as a deaf man, do not hear. I am as a mute man who doesn't open his mouth.
Yes, I am as a man who doesn't hear, in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 Quoniam in te Domine speravi: tu exaudies me Domine Deus meus.
For in you, LORD, do I hope. You will answer, LORD my God.
16 Quia dixi: Nequando supergaudeant mihi inimici mei: et dum commoventur pedes mei, super me magna locuti sunt.
For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."
17 Quoniam ego in flagella paratus sum: et dolor meus in conspectu meo semper.
For I am ready to fall. My pain is continually before me.
Yes, I confess my iniquity. I am anxious because of my sin.
19 Inimici autem mei vivunt, et confirmati sunt super me: et multiplicati sunt qui oderunt me inique.
But my enemies, for no reason, are many. Those who hate me wrongfully are numerous.
They who also render evil for good are adversaries to me, because I follow what is good.
21 Ne derelinquas me Domine Deus meus: ne discesseris a me.
Do not forsake me, LORD. My God, do not be far from me.
22 Intende in adiutorium meum, Domine Deus salutis meæ.
Hurry to help me, LORD, my salvation.
