< Psalmorum 31 >
1 In finem, Psalmus David, pro extasi. In te Domine speravi non confundar in æternum: in iustitia tua libera me.
In you, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in your righteousness.
2 Inclina ad me aurem tuam, accelera ut eruas me. Esto mihi in Deum protectorem: et in domum refugii, ut salvum me facias.
Bow down your ear to me; deliver me speedily: be you my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me.
3 Quoniam fortitudo mea, et refugium meum es tu: et propter nomen tuum deduces me, et enutries me.
For you are my rock and my fortress; therefore for your name’s sake lead me, and guide me.
4 Educes me de laqueo hoc, quem absconderunt mihi: quoniam tu es protector meus.
Pull me out of the net that they have laid privately for me: for you are my strength.
5 In manus tuas commendo spiritum meum: redemisti me Domine Deus veritatis.
Into your hand I commit my spirit: you have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.
6 Odisti observantes vanitates, supervacue. Ego autem in Domino speravi:
I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.
7 exultabo, et lætabor in misericordia tua. Quoniam respexisti humilitatem meam, salvasti de necessitatibus animam meam.
I will be glad and rejoice in your mercy: for you have considered my trouble; you have known my soul in adversities;
8 Nec conclusisti me in manibus inimici: statuisti in loco spatioso pedes meos.
And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: you have set my feet in a large room.
9 Miserere mei Domine quoniam tribulor: conturbatus est in ira oculus meus, anima mea, et venter meus:
Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: my eye is consumed with grief, yes, my soul and my belly.
10 Quoniam defecit in dolore vita mea: et anni mei in gemitibus. Infirmata est in paupertate virtus mea: et ossa mea conturbata sunt.
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
11 Super omnes inimicos meos factus sum opprobrium et vicinis meis valde: et timor notis meis. Qui videbant me, foras fugerunt a me:
I was a reproach among all my enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to my acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.
12 oblivioni datus sum, tamquam mortuus a corde. Factus sum tamquam vas perditum:
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
13 quoniam audivi vituperationem multorum commorantium in circuitu: In eo dum convenirent simul adversum me, accipere animam meam consiliati sunt.
For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.
14 Ego autem in te speravi Domine: dixi: Deus meus es tu:
But I trusted in you, O LORD: I said, You are my God.
15 in manibus tuis sortes meæ. Eripe me de manu inimicorum meorum, et a persequentibus me.
My times are in your hand: deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from them that persecute me.
16 Illustra faciem tuam super servum tuum, salvum me fac in misericordia tua:
Make your face to shine on your servant: save me for your mercies’ sake.
17 Domine non confundar, quoniam invocavi te. Erubescant impii, et deducantur in infernum: (Sheol )
Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called on you: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. (Sheol )
18 muta fiant labia dolosa. Quæ loquuntur adversus iustum iniquitatem, in superbia, et in abusione.
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
19 Quam magna multitudo dulcedinis tuæ Domine, quam abscondisti timentibus te. Perfecisti eis, qui sperant in te, in conspectu filiorum hominum.
Oh how great is your goodness, which you have laid up for them that fear you; which you have worked for them that trust in you before the sons of men!
20 Abscondes eos in abscondito faciei tuæ a conturbatione hominum. Proteges eos in tabernaculo tuo a contradictione linguarum.
You shall hide them in the secret of your presence from the pride of man: you shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
21 Benedictus Dominus: quoniam mirificavit misericordiam suam mihi in civitate munita.
Blessed be the LORD: for he has showed me his marvelous kindness in a strong city.
22 Ego autem dixi in excessu mentis meæ: Proiectus sum a facie oculorum tuorum. Ideo exaudisti vocem orationis meæ, dum clamarem ad te.
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before your eyes: nevertheless you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to you.
23 Diligite Dominum omnes sancti eius: quoniam veritatem requiret Dominus, et retribuet abundanter facientibus superbiam.
O love the LORD, all you his saints: for the LORD preserves the faithful, and plentifully rewards the proud doer.
24 Viriliter agite, et confortetur cor vestrum, omnes qui speratis in Domino.
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the LORD.
