< Mattheum 18 >
1 In illa hora accesserunt discipuli ad Iesum, dicentes: Quis putas, maior est in regno cælorum?
The same time the disciples came vnto Iesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdome of heauen?
2 Et advocans Iesus parvulum, statuit eum in medio eorum,
And Iesus called a litle childe vnto him, and set him in the mids of them,
3 et dixit: Amen dico vobis, nisi conversi fueritis, et efficiamini sicut parvuli, non intrabitis in regnum cælorum.
And sayd, Verely I say vnto you, except ye be conuerted, and become as litle children, ye shall not enter into the kingdome of heauen.
4 Quicumque ergo humiliaverit se sicut parvulus iste, hic est maior in regno cælorum.
Whosoeuer therefore shall humble himselfe as this litle childe, the same is the greatest in the kingdome of heauen.
5 Et qui susceperit unum parvulum talem in nomine meo, me suscipit.
And whosoeuer shall receiue one such litle childe in my name, receiueth me.
6 qui autem scandalizaverit unum de pusillis istis, qui in me credunt, expedit ei ut suspendatur mola asinaria in collo eius, et demergatur in profundum maris.
But whosoeuer shall offend one of these litle ones which beleeue in me, it were better for him, that a milstone were hanged about his necke, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
7 Væ mundo a scandalis. Necesse est enim ut veniant scandala: verumtamen væ homini illi, per quem scandalum venit.
Wo be vnto the world because of offences: for it must needes be that offences shall come, but wo be to that man by whome the offence commeth.
8 Si autem manus tua, vel pes tuus scandalizat te: abscide eum, et proiice abs te: bonum tibi est ad vitam ingredi debilem, vel claudum, quam duas manus, vel duos pedes habentem mitti in ignem æternum. (aiōnios )
Wherefore, if thy hand or thy foote cause thee to offend, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life, halt, or maimed, then hauing two hands, or two feete, to be cast into euerlasting fire. (aiōnios )
9 Et si oculus tuus scandalizat te, erue eum, et proiice abs te: bonum tibi est cum uno oculo in vitam intrare, quam duos oculos habentem mitti in gehennam ignis. (Geenna )
And if thine eye cause thee to offende, plucke it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, then hauing two eyes to be cast into hell fire. (Geenna )
10 Videte ne contemnatis unum ex his pusillis: dico enim vobis, quia angeli eorum in cælis semper vident faciem patris mei, qui in cælis est.
See that ye despise not one of these litle ones: for I say vnto you, that in heauen their Angels alwayes behold the face of my Father which is in heauen.
11 Venit enim filius hominis salvare quod perierat.
For the Sonne of man is come to saue that which was lost.
12 Quid vobis videtur? si fuerint alicui centum oves, et erravit una ex eis: nonne relinquit nonagintanovem in montibus, et vadit quærere eam, quæ erravit?
How thinke ye? If a man haue an hundreth sheepe, and one of them be gone astray, doeth he not leaue ninetie and nine, and go into the mountaines, and seeke that which is gone astray?
13 et si contigerit ut inveniat eam: amen dico vobis, quia gaudet super eam magis quam super nonagintanovem, quæ non erraverunt.
And if so be that he finde it, verely I say vnto you, he reioyceth more of that sheepe, then of the ninetie and nine which went not astray:
14 Sic non est voluntas ante Patrem vestrum, qui in cælis est, ut pereat unus de pusillis istis.
So is it not ye wil of your Father which is in heauen, that one of these litle ones should perish.
15 Si autem peccaverit in te frater tuus, vade, et corripe eum inter te, et ipsum solum. si te audierit, lucratus eris fratrem tuum.
Moreouer, if thy brother trespasse against thee, goe and tell him his fault betweene thee and him alone: if he heare thee, thou hast wonne thy brother.
16 si autem te non audierit, adhibe tecum adhuc unum, vel duos, ut in ore duorum, vel trium testium stet omne verbum.
But if he heare thee not, take yet with thee one or two, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses euery worde may be confirmed.
17 Quod si non audierit eos: dic ecclesiæ. si autem ecclesiam non audierit: sit tibi sicut ethnicus, et publicanus.
And if he refuse to heare them, tell it vnto the Church: and if he refuse to heare the Church also, let him be vnto thee as an heathen man, and a Publicane.
18 Amen dico vobis, quæcumque alligaveritis super terram, erunt ligata et in cælo: et quæcumque solveritis super terram, erunt soluta et in cælo.
Verely I say vnto you, Whatsoeuer ye bind on earth, shall be bound in heauen: and whatsoeuer ye loose on earth, shalbe loosed in heauen.
19 Iterum dico vobis, quia si duo ex vobis consenserint super terram, de omni re quamcumque petierint, fiet illis a patre meo, qui in cælis est.
Againe, verely I say vnto you, that if two of you shall agree in earth vpon any thing, whatsoeuer they shall desire, it shall be giuen them of my Father which is in heauen.
20 Ubi enim sunt duo, vel tres congregati in nomine meo, ibi sum in medio eorum.
For where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there am I in the mids of them.
21 Tunc accedens Petrus ad eum, dixit: Domine quoties peccabit in me frater meus, et dimittam ei? usque septies?
Then came Peter to him, and said, Master, howe oft shall my brother sinne against me, and I shall forgiue him? vnto seuen times?
22 Dicit illi Iesus: Non dico tibi usque septies: sed usque septuagies septies.
Iesus said vnto him, I say not to thee, Vnto seuen times, but, Vnto seuentie times seuen times.
23 Ideo assimilatum est regnum cælorum homini regi, qui voluit rationem ponere cum servis suis.
Therefore is the kingdome of heauen likened vnto a certaine King, which would take an account of his seruants.
24 Et cum cœpisset rationem ponere, oblatus est ei unus, qui debebat ei decem millia talenta.
And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought vnto him, which ought him ten thousand talents.
25 Cum autem non haberet unde redderet, iussit eum dominus eius venundari, et uxorem eius, et filios, et omnia quæ habebat, et reddi.
And because he had nothing to pay, his Lord commanded him to be solde, and his wife, and his children, and all that he had, and the dette to be payed.
26 Procidens autem servus ille, orabat eum, dicens: Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi.
The seruant therefore fell downe, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, refraine thine anger toward me, and I will pay thee all.
27 Misertus autem dominus servi illius, dimisit eum, et debitum dimisit ei.
Then that seruants Lord had compassion, and loosed him, and forgaue him the dette.
28 Egressus autem servus ille invenit unum de conservis suis, qui debebat ei centum denarios: et tenens suffocavit eum, dicens: Redde quod debes.
But when the seruant was departed, hee found one of his felow seruants, which ought him an hundred pence, and he layde hands on him, and thratled him, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29 Et procidens conservus eius, rogabat eum, dicens: Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi.
Then his fellow seruant fell downe at his feete, and besought him, saying, Refraine thine anger towards me, and I will pay thee all.
30 Ille autem noluit: sed abiit, et misit eum in carcerem donec redderet debitum.
Yet he would not, but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the dette.
31 Videntes autem conservi eius quæ fiebant, contristati sunt valde: et venerunt, et narraverunt domino suo omnia quæ facta fuerant.
And when his other felowe seruants sawe what was done, they were very sory, and came, and declared vnto their Lord all that was done.
32 Tunc vocavit illum dominus suus: et ait illi: Serve nequam, omne debitum dimisi tibi quoniam rogasti me:
Then his Lord called him vnto him, and sayd to him, O euil seruant, I forgaue thee all that dette, because thou prayedst me.
33 nonne ergo oportuit et te misereri conservi tui, sicut et ego tui misertus sum?
Oughtest not thou also to haue had pitie on thy fellowe seruant, euen as I had pitie on thee?
34 Et iratus dominus eius tradidit eum tortoribus, quoadusque redderet universum debitum.
So his Lord was wroth, and deliuered him to the tormentours, till he should pay all that was due to him.
35 Sic et Pater meus cælestis faciet vobis, si non remiseritis unusquisque fratri suo de cordibus vestris.
So likewise shall mine heauenly Father doe vnto you, except ye forgiue from your hearts, eche one to his brother their trespasses.
