Isaiæ 6
1 In anno, quo mortuus est rex Ozias, vidi Dominum sedentem super solium excelsum et elevatum: et ea, quæ sub ipso erant, replebant templum:
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw My Lord, sitting upon a throne high and lifted up, and, his skirts, did fill the temple,
2 Seraphim stabant super illud: sex alæ uni, et sex alæ alteri: duabus velabant faciem eius, et duabus velabant pedes eius, et duabus volabant.
Seraphim, were standing above him; six wings severally, had each one, —With twain, he covered his face And with twain, he covered his feet And with twain, he did fly.
3 Et clamabant alter ad alterum, et dicebant: Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus, Dominus Deus exercituum, plena est omnis terra gloria eius.
And they continued crying out one to another, and said, Holy—holy—holy, is Yahweh of hosts, —the fulness of the whole earth, is his glory.
4 Et commota sunt superliminaria cardinum a voce clamantis, et domus repleta est fumo.
And the foundations of the porch, were moved at the voice of him that cried, —and the house, was filled with smoke.
5 Et dixi: Væ mihi, quia tacui, quia vir pollutus labiis ego sum, et in medio populi polluta labia habentis ego habito, et regem Dominum exercituum vidi oculis meis.
Then said I—Woe to me!—for I am undone, Because a man of unclean lips, am, I, And in the midst of a people of unclean lips, do I dwell, —For the King. Yahweh of hosts, have mine eyes seen!
6 Et volavit ad me unus de Seraphim, et in manu eius calculus, quem forcipe tulerat de altari.
Then flew unto me one of the seraphim, And in his hand, a live coal, —With tongs, had he taken it from off the altar.
7 Et tetigit os meum, et dixit: Ecce tetigit hoc labia tua, et auferetur iniquitas tua, et peccatum tuum mundabitur.
Then touched he my mouth, and said—Lo! this hath touched thy lips, —Thus shall be taken away, thine iniquity, And, thy sin, by propitiation be covered.
8 Et audivi vocem Domini dicentis: Quem mittam? et quis ibit nobis? Et dixi: Ecce ego, mitte me.
Then heard I the voice of My Lord, saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said—Here am I—send me.
9 Et dixit: Vade, et dices populo huic: Audite audientes, et nolite intelligere: et videte visionem, et nolite cognoscere.
Then said he—Go and say unto this people, —Hear on but do not discern, See on but do not perceive:
10 Excæca cor populi huius, et aures eius aggrava: et oculos eius claude: ne forte videat oculis suis, et auribus suis audiat, et corde suo intelligat, et convertatur, et sanem eum.
Stupefy thou the heart of this people, And their ears, make thou heavy, And their eyes, overspread, —Lest they see with their eyes And with their ears, should hear, And their heart should discern and come back. And they be healed.
11 Et dixi: Usquequo Domine? et dixit: Donec desolentur civitates absque habitatore, et domus sine homine, et terra relinquetur deserta.
Then said I—How long, My Lord? And he said—Until the time that Cities be wasted through having no inhabitant And houses—through having no men, And, the ground, be laid waste unto desolation;
12 Et longe faciet Dominus homines, et multiplicabitur quæ derelicta fuerat in medio terræ.
And Yahweh have far removed men, —And great! be the abandonment in the midst of the land.
13 Et adhuc in ea decimatio, et convertetur, et erit in ostensionem sicut terebinthus, et sicut quercus, quæ expandit ramos suos: semen sanctum erit id, quod steterit in ea.
Yet still shall there be in it a tenth, Though it again be consumed, —Like an oak and like a terebinth Which when felled, have a stock in them, A holy seed, shall be the stock thereof.
