< Genesis 10 >

Now, these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and there were born to them sons after the flood.
2 Filii Iapheth: Gomer, et Magog, et Madai, et Iavan, et Thubal, et Mosoch, et Thiras.
The sons of Japheth: Gomer and Magog, and Madai, and Javan and Tubal, —and Meshech, and Tiras.
3 Porro filii Gomer: Ascenez et Riphath et Thogorma.
And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz and Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 Filii autem Iavan: Elisa et Tharsis, Cetthim et Dodanim.
And the sons of Javan: Elishah, and Tarshish. Kittim, and Rodanim, —
From these, were dispersed [the inhabitants] of the coastlands of the nations, in their lands, each man by his tongue, by their families in their nations.
6 Filii autem Cham: Chus, et Mesraim, et Phuth, et Chanaan.
And, the sons of Ham: Cush and Mizraim and Phut and Canaan.
7 Filii Chus: Saba, et Hevila, et Sabatha, et Regma, et Sabatacha. Filii Regma: Saba, et Dadan.
And, the sons of Cush: Seba and Havilah, and Sabtah and Raamah, and Sabtechah, —And the sons of Raamah, Sheba and Dedan.
8 Porro Chus genuit Nemrod: ipse cœpit esse potens in terra,
And, Cush begat Nimrod.—he, became a hero in the earth;
9 et erat robustus venator coram Domino. Ob hoc exivit proverbium: Quasi Nemrod robustus venator coram Domino.
he, became a hero of hunting before Yahweh, for this cause, it is said. Like Nimrod, a hero of hunting before Yahweh.
So the beginning of his kingdom came to be Babel, and Erech, and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
From that land, went forth Asshur, —and he built Nineveh, and Rehoboth-ir, and Calah:
12 Resen quoque inter Niniven et Chale: hæc est civitas magna.
and Resen, between Niveveh and Calah, —the same is the great city.
13 At vero Mesraim genuit Ludim, et Anamim, et Laabim, Nephthuim,
And, Mizraim, begat Ludim and Anamim and Lehabim, and Naphtuchim;
and Pathrusim and Casluhim whence came forth Philistim and Caphtorim.
15 Chanaan autem genuit Sidonem primogenitum suum, Hethæum,
And Canaan begat Zidon his firstborn, and Heth:
16 et Iebusæum, et Amorrhæum, Gergesæum,
and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite;
17 Hevæum, et Aracæum: Sinæum,
and the Hivite and the Arkite, and the Sinite:
18 et Aradium, Samaræum et Amathæum: et posthæc disseminati sunt populi Chananæorum.
and the Arvadite and the Zemarite and the Hamathite, —and after-wards, were spread abroad the families of the Canaanite.
And it came to pass that the boundary of the Canaanite was from Zidon, as thou enterest in towards Gerar unto Gaza, —as thou enterest in towards Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboim, as far as Lasha.
These, are the sons of Ham, by their families by their tongues, in their lands in their nations.
Now, to Shem, father of all the sons of Eber, elder brother of Japheth, to him also, were children born.
22 Filii Sem: Ælam et Assur, et Arphaxad, et Lud, et Aram.
The sons of Shem, Elam and Asshur, —and Arpachshad and Lud and Aram.
23 Filii Aram: Us, et Hul, et Gether, et Mes.
And, the sons of Aram: Uz and Hul, and Gether and Mash.
24 At vero Arphaxad genuit Sale, de quo ortus est Heber.
Now Arpachshad, begat Shelah, and Shelah begat Eber.
And to Eber, were born two sons, —the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days, was the earth divided, and the name of his brother was Joktan.
26 Qui Iectan genuit Elmodad, et Saleph, et Asarmoth, Iare,
Now, Joktan, begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah;
27 et Aduram, et Uzal, et Decla,
and Hadoram and Uzal, and Diklah:
28 et Ebal, et Abimael, Saba,
and Obal and Abimael, and Sheba:
29 et Ophir, et Hevila, et Iobab. omnes isti, filii Iectan.
and Ophir and Havilah, and Jobab—all these were sons of Joktan.
And it came to pass that their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou enterest in towards Sephar, the mountain of the east.
31 Isti filii Sem secundum cognationes et linguas, et regiones in gentibus suis.
These are the sons of Shem, by their families by their tongues, in their lands by their nations.
32 Hæ familiæ Noe iuxta populos et nationes suas. Ab his divisæ sunt gentes in terra post diluvium.
These, are the families of the sons of Noah, by their generations in their nations, and from these, were dispersed the nations in the earth after the flood.
