< Ephesios 2 >
1 Et vos, cum essetis mortui delictis, et peccatis vestris,
Also you—being dead in trespasses and sins,
2 in quibus aliquando ambulastis secundum sæculum mundi huius, secundum principem potestatis aeris huius, spiritus, qui nunc operatur in filios diffidentiæ, (aiōn )
in which you once walked according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience, (aiōn )
3 in quibus et nos omnes aliquando conversati sumus in desideriis carnis nostræ, facientes voluntatem carnis, et cogitationum, et eramus natura filii iræ, sicut et ceteri:
among whom we also all walked once in the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath—as also the others,
4 Deus autem, qui dives est in misericordia, propter nimiam charitatem suam, qua dilexit nos,
but God, being rich in kindness, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 et cum essemus mortui peccatis, convivificavit nos in Christo, (cuius gratia estis salvati)
even being dead in the trespasses, made us alive together with the Christ (by grace you are saved),
6 et conresuscitavit, et consedere fecit in cælestibus in Christo Iesu:
and raised [us] up together, and sat [us] together in the heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus,
7 ut ostenderet in sæculis supervenientibus abundantes divitias gratiæ suæ in bonitate super nos in Christo Iesu. (aiōn )
that He might show, in the ages that are coming, the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus, (aiōn )
8 Gratia enim estis salvati per fidem, et hoc non ex vobis: Dei enim donum est,
for by grace you are saved, through faith, and this [is] not of yourselves—[it is] the gift of God,
9 non ex operibus, ut nequis glorietur.
not of works, that no one may boast;
10 Ipsius enim sumus factura, creati in Christo Iesu in operibus bonis, quæ præparavit Deus ut in illis ambulemus.
for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus on good works, which God prepared before, that we may walk in them.
11 Propter quod memores estote, quod aliquando vos Gentes in carne, qui dicimini præputium ab ea, quæ dicitur circumcisio in carne, manu facta:
For this reason, remember, that you [were] once the nations in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that called Circumcision in the flesh made by hands,
12 quia eratis illo in tempore sine Christo, alienati a conversatione Israel, et hospites testamentorum, promissionis spem non habentes, et sine Deo in hoc mundo.
that you were at that time apart from Christ, having been alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope, and without God in the world;
13 Nunc autem in Christo Iesu vos, qui aliquando eratis longe, facti estis prope in sanguine Christi.
but now, in Christ Jesus, you being once far off became near in the blood of the Christ,
14 Ipse enim est pax nostra, qui fecit utraque unum, et medium parietem maceriæ solvens, inimicitias in carne sua:
for He is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of the partition of hostility,
15 legem mandatorum decretis evacuans, ut duos condat in semetipso in unum novum hominem, faciens pacem,
the enmity in His flesh, having done away [with] the Law of the commands in ordinances, that He might create the two into one new man in Himself, making peace,
16 et reconciliet ambos in uno corpore, Deo per crucem, interficiens inimicitias in semetipso.
and might reconcile both in one body to God through the Cross, having slain the enmity by it,
17 Et veniens evangelizavit pacem vobis, qui longe fuistis, et pacem iis, qui prope.
and having come, He proclaimed good news—peace to you—the far-off and the near,
18 quoniam per ipsum habemus accessum ambo in uno Spiritu ad Patrem.
because through Him we have the access—we both—in one Spirit to the Father.
19 Ergo iam non estis hospites, et advenæ: sed estis cives sanctorum, et domestici Dei:
Then, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens of the holy ones, and of the household of God,
20 superædificati super fundamentum Apostolorum, et Prophetarum, ipso summo angulari lapide Christo Iesu:
being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being chief corner-[stone],
21 in quo omnis ædificatio constructa crescit in templum sanctum in Domino,
in whom all the building fitly framed together increases to a holy temple in the LORD,
22 in quo et vos coædificamini in habitaculum Dei in Spiritu.
in whom you also are built together, for a habitation of God in the Spirit.
