< Psalmorum 45 >
1 In finem, pro iis, qui commutabuntur, filiis Core, ad intellectum, Canticum pro dilecto. Eructavit cor meum verbum bonum: dico ego opera mea regi. Lingua mea calamus scribæ, velociter scribentis.
For the end, for alternate [strains] by the sons of Core; for instruction, a Song concerning the beloved. My heart has uttered a good matter: I declare my works to the king: my tongue is the pen of a quick writer.
2 Speciosus forma præ filiis hominum, diffusa est gratia in labiis tuis: propterea benedixit te Deus in æternum.
You are more beautiful than the sons of men: grace has been shed forth on your lips: therefore God has blessed you for ever.
3 Accingere gladio tuo super femur tuum, potentissime.
Gird your sword upon your thigh, O Mighty One, in your comeliness, and in your beauty;
4 Specie tua et pulchritudine tua intende, prospere procede, et regna, propter veritatem et mansuetudinem, et iustitiam: et deducet te mirabiliter dextera tua.
and bend [your bow], and prosper, and reign, because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and your right hand shall guide you wonderfully.
5 Sagittæ tuæ acutæ, populi sub te cadent, in corda inimicorum regis.
Your weapons are sharpened, Mighty One, (the nations shall fall under you) [they are] in the heart of the king's enemies.
6 Sedes tua Deus in sæculum sæculi: virga directionis virga regni tui.
Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of your kingdom is a sceptre of righteousness.
7 Dilexisti iustitiam, et odisti iniquitatem: propterea unxit te Deus, Deus tuus oleo lætitiæ præ consortibus tuis.
You have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity: therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your fellows.
8 Myrrha, et gutta, et casia a vestimentis tuis, a domibus eburneis: ex quibus delectaverunt te
Myrrh, and stacte, and cassia [are exhaled] from your garments, [and] out of the ivory palaces,
9 filiæ regum in honore tuo. Astitit regina a dextris tuis in vestitu deaurato: circumdata varietate.
with which kings' daughters have gladdened you for your honor: the queen stood by on your right hand, clothed in vesture wrought with gold, [and] arrayed in various colors.
10 Audi filia, et vide, et inclina aurem tuam: et obliviscere populum tuum, et domum patris tui.
Hear, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear; forget also your people, and your father's house.
11 Et concupiscet rex decorem tuum: quoniam ipse est Dominus Deus tuus, et adorabunt eum.
Because the king has desired your beauty; for he is your Lord.
12 Et filiæ Tyri in muneribus vultum tuum deprecabuntur: omnes divites plebis.
And the daughter of Tyre shall adore him with gifts; the rich of the people of the land shall supplicate your favor.
13 Omnis gloria eius filiæ regis ab intus, in fimbriis aureis
All her glory [is that] of the daughter of the king of Esebon, robed [as she is] in golden fringed garments,
14 circumamicta varietatibus. Adducentur regi virgines post eam: proximæ eius afferentur tibi.
in embroidered [clothing]: virgins shall be brought to the king after her: her fellows shall be brought to you.
15 Afferentur in lætitia et exultatione: adducentur in templum regis.
They shall be brought with gladness and exultation: they shall be led into the king's temple.
16 Pro patribus tuis nati sunt tibi filii: constitues eos principes super omnem terram.
Instead of your fathers children are born to you: you shall make them princes over all the earth.
17 Memores erunt nominis tui in omni generatione et generationem. Propterea populi confitebuntur tibi in æternum: et in sæculum sæculi.
They shall make mention of your name from generation to generation: therefore shall the nations give thanks to you for ever, even for ever and ever.
