< Psalmorum 123 >

1 Canticum graduum. Ad te levavi oculos meos, qui habitas in cælis.
A song for pilgrims going up to Jerusalem. I look up to you, the one who rules from heaven.
2 Ecce sicut oculi servorum, in manibus dominorum suorum, Sicut oculi ancillæ in manibus dominæ suæ: ita oculi nostri ad Dominum Deum nostrum donec misereatur nostri.
Just as servants look to their master, or a maid looks to her mistress, so we keep our eyes on you, Lord our God, waiting for you to be merciful to us.
3 Miserere nostri Domine, miserere nostri: quia multum repleti sumus despectione:
Please have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy. We've had enough of people's contempt.
4 Quia multum repleta est anima nostra: opprobrium abundantibus, et despectio superbis.
We've had more than enough of the scorn of the proud, and the contempt of the arrogant.
