Job 13
1 Ecce omnia hæc vidit oculus meus, et audivit auris mea, et intellexi singula.
Loe, mine eye hath seene all this: mine eare hath heard, and vnderstande it.
2 Secundum scientiam vestram et ego novi: nec inferior vestri sum.
I knowe also as much as you knowe: I am not inferiour vnto you.
3 Sed tamen ad Omnipotentem loquar, et disputare cum Deo cupio:
But I will speake to the Almightie, and I desire to dispute with God.
4 Prius vos ostendens fabricatores mendacii, et cultores perversorum dogmatum.
For in deede ye forge lyes, and all you are physitions of no value.
5 Atque utinam taceretis, ut putaremini esse sapientes.
Oh, that you woulde holde your tongue, that it might be imputed to you for wisedome!
6 Audite ergo correptionem meam, et iudicium labiorum meorum attendite.
Nowe heare my disputation, and giue eare to the arguments of my lips.
7 Numquid Deus indiget vestro mendacio, ut pro illo loquamini dolos?
Will ye speake wickedly for Gods defence, and talke deceitfully for his cause?
8 Numquid faciem eius accipitis, et pro Deo iudicare nitimini?
Will ye accept his person? or will ye contende for God?
9 Aut placebit ei quem celare nihil potest? aut decipietur ut homo, vestris fraudulentiis?
Is it well that he shoulde seeke of you? will you make a lye for him, as one lyeth for a man?
10 Ipse vos arguet, quoniam in abscondito faciem eius accipitis.
He will surely reprooue you, if ye doe secretly accept any person.
11 Statim ut se commoverit, turbabit vos, et terror eius irruet super vos.
Shall not his excellencie make you afraid? and his feare fall vpon you?
12 Memoria vestra comparabitur cineri, et redigentur in lutum cervices vestræ.
Your memories may be compared vnto ashes, and your bodyes to bodyes of clay.
13 Tacete paulisper ut loquar quodcumque mihi mens suggesserit.
Holde your tongues in my presence, that I may speake, and let come vpon what will.
14 Quare lacero carnes meas dentibus meis, et animam meam porto in manibus meis?
Wherefore doe I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my soule in mine hande?
15 Etiam si occiderit me, in ipso sperabo: verumtamen vias meas in conspectu eius arguam.
Loe, though he slay me, yet will I trust in him, and I will reprooue my wayes in his sight.
16 Et ipse erit salvator meus: non enim veniet in conspectu eius omnis hypocrita.
He shalbe my saluation also: for the hypocrite shall not come before him.
17 Audite sermonem meum, et ænigmata percipite auribus vestris.
Heare diligently my wordes, and marke my talke.
18 Si fuero iudicatus, scio quod iustus inveniar.
Beholde nowe: if I prepare me to iudgement, I knowe that I shalbe iustified.
19 Quis est qui iudicetur mecum? veniat: quare tacens consumor?
Who is he, that will pleade with me? for if I nowe holde my tongue, I dye.
20 Duo tantum ne facias mihi, et tunc a facie tua non abscondar:
But doe not these two things vnto me: then will I not hide my selfe from thee.
21 Manum tuam longe fac a me, et formido tua non me terreat.
Withdrawe thine hande from me, and let not thy feare make me afraide.
22 Voca me, et ego respondebo tibi: aut certe loquar, et tu responde mihi.
Then call thou, and I will answere: or let me speake, and answere thou me.
23 Quantas habeo iniquitates et peccata, scelera mea et delicta ostende mihi.
Howe many are mine iniquities and sinnes? shewe me my rebellion, and my sinne.
24 Cur faciem tuam abscondis, et arbitraris me inimicum tuum?
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and takest me for thine enemie?
25 Contra folium, quod vento rapitur, ostendis potentiam tuam, et stipulam siccam persequeris:
Wilt thou breake a leafe driuen to and from? and wilt thou pursue the drie stubble?
26 Scribis enim contra me amaritudines, et consumere me vis peccatis adolescentiæ meæ.
For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possesse the iniquities of my youth.
27 Posuisti in nervo pedem meum, et observasti omnes semitas meas, et vestigia pedum meorum considerasti:
Thou puttest my feete also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly vnto all my pathes, and makest the print thereof in ye heeles of my feet.
28 Qui quasi putredo consumendus sum, et quasi vestimentum quod comeditur a tinea.
Such one consumeth like a rotten thing, and as a garment that is motheaten.
