1 Nimet konkin ke ma kom ako in oru lutu, mweyen kom tia etu lah mea ac sikyak ingela.
Boast not thyself of to-morrow, for thou knowest not what a day will bring forth.
2 Lela mwet ngia in kaksakin kom — finne sie mwet kom tia etu. Nimet sifacna kaksakin kom.
Let another praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3 Toasr lun eot ac puk uh tia ku in lumweyuk nu ke toasr lun mwe lokoalok ma sie mwet lalfon el sripauk.
A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's vexation is heavier than them both.
4 Kasrkusrak el sulallal ac orala ongoiya lulap, tusruktu tia apkuran nu ke lemta!
Fury is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
5 Wo in aksuwosye sie mwet lemtulauk, liki na in fuhlela elan nunku mu wangin nunak lom kacl.
Open rebuke is better than hidden love.
6 Sie mwet kawuk el nunak pwaye nu sum el finne kai kom, a kom in taran sie mwet lokoalok su akukula nu sum.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are profuse.
7 Pacl se kom kihpi uh kom ac srunga kang honey, tusruktu pacl kom masrinsral, finne mongo mukol ac emwem sum.
The full soul trampleth on a honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8 Sie mwet su muta loes liki acn sel oana sie won ma som loes liki ahng lal.
As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
9 Ono keng ac mwe akmusra keng uh mwe akinsewowoye kom, a mwe lokoalok uh kunausla inse misla lom.
Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; and the sweetness of one's friend is [the fruit] of hearty counsel.
10 Nimet mulkunla mwet kawuk lom ku kawuk lun papa tomom. Kom fin sun ongoiya, nimet siyuk tamulel lom in kasrekom; sie mwet tulan su muta apkuran nu yurum ku in kasrekom liki sie tamulel su muta loesla.
Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; and go not into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
11 Tulik nutik, kom in lalmwetmet ac nga fah arulana engan; nga fah ku in topuk mwet nukewa su akkolukyeyu.
Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, that I may have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me.
12 Ke pacl se mwe lokoalok tuku, mwet etu elos ac fahsr liki; a sie mwet wangin nunak la ac fahsryang nu kac, na toko el auli.
A prudent [man] seeth the evil, [and] hideth himself; the simple pass on, [and] are punished.
13 Sie mwet su wulela in fosrngakin soemoul lun sie mwetsac, el enenu in sang nuknuk lal sifacna in mwe akpwaye nu ke soemoul el wuleang kac.
Take his garment that is become surety [for] another, and hold him in pledge for a strange woman.
14 Kom fin sala okasak mwet kawuk lom ke sie pusra lulap ke lututang, ac fah oana kom in filiya sie selnga nu facl.
He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be reckoned a curse to him.
15 Sie mutan payuk su lungsena torkaskas, el oana pusren tultul in kof ke len af uh.
A continual dropping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike:
16 Kom ac oru fuka elan misla? Ya nu oasr pacl kom srike in tulokinya eng uh, ku sruokya mwe akmusra luin poum?
whosoever will restrain her restraineth the wind, and his right hand encountereth oil.
17 Mwet uh alutluti sie sin sie, oana ke osra uh ac sang tamla osra.
Iron is sharpened by iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 Kom fin karingin soko sak fig, kom ac fah kang fahko kac. Sie mwet kulansap su karingin mwet kacto lal, fah akfulatyeyuk.
Whoso keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that guardeth his master shall be honoured.
19 Ngunin motom sifacna pa kom liye in kof uh, ac insiom pa fahkak ouiyom sifacna.
As [in] water face [answereth] to face, so the heart of man to man.
20 Kena lun mwet uh tia ku in safla — oana ke facl lun mwet misa tia ku in nwanala. (Sheol h7585)
Sheol and destruction are insatiable; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
21 E uh pa likliki gold ac silver; ac elahn sie mwet kalem ke kaksak lun mwet uh.
The fining-pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; so let a man be to the mouth that praiseth him.
22 Kom finne sringil sie mwet lalfon nwe ke el apkuran in misa, kom tia ku in sisla lalfon lal.
If thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his folly depart from him.
23 Karinganang sheep ac nani nutum akwoya,
Be well acquainted with the appearance of thy flocks; look well to thy herds:
24 mweyen mwe kasrup uh sukawil. Finne mutunfacl lulap uh, ac tia oan nwe tok.
for wealth is not for ever; and doth the crown [endure] from generation to generation?
25 Pakela mah nun sheep ac nani uh, ac ke kom soano in sifil srunak, kom ku in eisani mah pe eol uh.
The hay is removed, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered in.
26 Kom ku in orala nuknuk ke unen sheep nutum, ac moul acn ke mani kom sruokya ke nani ma kom kukakunla.
The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of a field;
27 Na kom, ac sou lom wi mutan kulansap lom, fah ku in nim milk ke nani lula uh.
and there is goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and sustenance for thy maidens.
