Luke 23
1 U sac nufon tuyak ac pwanulla Jesus nu yorol Pilate,
Then they all rose in a body and led Jesus before Pilate.
2 ac mutawauk in fahk kas in tukakunul we: “Kut konauk mwet se inge ke el kiapu mwet lasr uh, ac fahk nu selos in tia moli tax nu sin Caesar, ac el oayapa fahk mu el pa Christ, sie tokosra!”
And they began to accuse him, ‘This is a man whom we found misleading our people, preventing them from paying taxes to the Emperor, and giving out that he himself is “Christ, a king.”’
3 Ac Pilate el siyuk sel, “Ya kom pa tokosra lun mwet Jew?” Ac el fahk, “Kom fahk na.”
‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ Pilate asked him. ‘It is true,’ replied Jesus.
4 Na Pilate el fahk nu sin mwet tol fulat ac un mwet uh, “Nga tia konauk sie sripa in nununkeyuk mwet se inge kac.”
But Pilate, turning to the chief priests and the people, said, ‘I do not see anything to find fault with in this man.’
5 Tusruk elos kwafe yohk liki meet ah, ac fahk, “Ke na luti lal uh el purakak tukulkul yohk inmasrlon mwet uh in acn Judea nufon. El tuh mutawauk Galilee, na pa inge el sun acn inge.”
But they insisted, ‘He is stirring up the people by his teaching all through Judea; he began with Galilee and has now come here.’
6 Ke Pilate el lohng ma inge, el siyuk selos, “Ya mwet se inge el mwet Galilee?”
Hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean;
7 Ke el etauk lah Jesus el mwet in acn se ma Herod el leumi, el supwalla nu yorol, mweyen Herod el oayapa oasr Jerusalem in pacl sac.
and, having satisfied himself that Jesus came under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who also was at Jerusalem at the time.
8 Herod el arulana insewowo ke el liyal Jesus, mweyen el lohng kacl, ac loes pacl ma el soano elan liyal. El finsrak mu Jesus elan oru kutu mwenmen elan liye.
When Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly pleased, for he had been wanting to see him for a long time, having heard a great deal about him; and he was hoping to see some sign given by him.
9 Ouinge Herod el siyuk mwe siyuk puspis sin Jesus, tusruktu wanginna top lun Jesus nu sel.
So he questioned him at some length, but Jesus made no reply.
10 Mwet tol fulat ac mwet luti Ma Sap elos kilukyak nu meet ac akyokye kas in tukak lalos lain Jesus.
Meanwhile the chief priests and the teachers of the Law stood by and vehemently accused him.
11 Herod ac mwet mweun lal elos aksruksrukel Jesus ac aklusrongtenyal; tari elos nokmulang ke sie nuknuk na kato ac folokunulla nu yorol Pilate.
And Herod, with his soldiers, treated Jesus with scorn; he mocked him by throwing a gorgeous robe round him, and then sent him back to Pilate.
12 Herod ac Pilate eltal kawukyak in len sacna, a meet eltal asrungai.
And Herod and Pilate became friends that very day, for before that there had been ill-will between them.
13 Pilate el solani kewa mwet tol fulat, mwet kol, ac mwet uh,
So Pilate summoned the chief priests, and the leading men, and the people,
14 ac fahk nu selos, “Kowos use mwet se inge nu yuruk ac fahk mu el kiapwelana mwet uh. Inge nga srikal tari ye motowos, a nga tiana konauk mu oasr sufal lal ke kutena ma kowos fahk kacl uh.
and said to them, ‘You brought this man before me charged with misleading the people; and yet, for my part, though I examined him before you, I did not find this man to blame for any of the things of which you accuse him;
15 Oayapa Herod el tiana konauk mu oasr ma sufal lal, oru el folokunulma nu yorosr. Wanginna ma mwet se inge orala ma fal in anwuki el kac.
nor did Herod either; for he has sent him back to us. And, as a fact, he has not done anything deserving death;
16 Ke ma inge, nga ac sang in sringsring el, tari nga fah tulalla. [
so I will have him scourged, and then release him.’
17 Ke pacl in Kufwen Alukela nukewa oasr oakwuk se lal Pilate in tulala sie mwet kapir ma mwet uh siyuk in taltalla.]
18 Ac un mwet nufon sac tukeni wowoyak ac fahk, “Unilya! Tulalla Barabbas nu sesr!” (
But they began to shout as one man, ‘Kill this fellow, but release Barabbas for us.’
19 Barabbas el muta in kapir ke sripen sie alein ma sikyak in siti uh lain government, oayapa ke sripen akmas ma el oru.)
(Barabbas was a man who had been put in prison for a riot that had broken out in the city and for murder.)
20 Pilate el kena aksukosokye Jesus, oru el sifilpa kusen siyuk nu sin mwet uh kac,
Pilate, however, wanting to release Jesus, called to them again;
21 a elos sifilpa wowoyak ac fahk, “Srupsrulak! Srupsrulak fin sakseng soko!”
but they kept calling out, ‘Crucify, crucify him!’
22 Pilate el sifil fahk pacl se aktolu, “Ku meawin ma koluk lal uh? Nga tia ku in konauk kutena ma lainul ma fal in anwuki el kac! Nga ac sang na in sringsring el, tari nga tulalla.”
‘Why, what harm has this man done?’ Pilate said to them for the third time. ‘I have found nothing in him for which he could be condemned to death. So I will have him scourged, and then release him.’
23 Tusruk elos sikalang in wowoyak ke kuiyalos mu Jesus elan sripsripyak fin sakseng, nwe ke na wela siyuk lalos.
But they persisted in loudly demanding his crucifixion; and their clamour gained the day.
24 Ouinge Pilate el wotela mu in wi ma elos siyuk uh.
Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.
25 El tulala mwet se ma elos siyuk in ikakla uh, mwet se ma tuh muta in kapir ke sripen alein ac akmas, ac el eisalang Jesus nu selos in oru oana ma elos lungse oru nu sel.
He released the man who had been put in prison for riot and murder, as they demanded, and gave Jesus up to be dealt with as they pleased.
26 Mwet mweun elos pwanul Jesus som, ac ke elos fahsr elos sun sie mwet Cyrene pangpang Simon, su fahsr in utyak nu in siti uh liki acn el muta we likin siti uh. Elos sruokilya, filiya sakseng soko ah nu facl, ac sap elan us fahsr tukun Jesus.
And, as they were leading Jesus away, they laid hold of Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and they put the cross on his shoulders, for him to carry it behind Jesus.
27 Oasr sie un mwet na lulap wi pac fahsr tokol; inmasrlon mwet inge oasr pac kutu mutan su wowoyak ac tung ke Jesus.
There was a great crowd of people following him, many being women who were beating their breasts and wailing for him.
28 Jesus el forang nu selos ac fahk, “Mutan Jerusalem, nimet kowos tung keik, a keiwos sifacna ac ke tulik nutuwos an.
So Jesus turned and said to them, ‘Women of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
29 Oasr len ac tuku ke mwet uh ac fah fahk, ‘Insewowo mutan su talap, su tiana oswe tulik ku katiti!’
A time, I tell you, is coming, when it will be said – “Happy are the women who are barren, and those who have never borne children or nursed them!”
30 Pacl se ingan pa mwet uh ac fahk nu ke eol uh, ‘Putati nu facsr!’ ac nu sin eol srisrik uh, ‘Wikinkutla!’
At that time people will begin to say to the mountains “Fall on us,” and to the hills “Cover us.”
31 Tuh fin pa inge ma ac orek nu ke sak folfol insroa, faska ma ac orek nu ke sak paola uh?”
If what you see is done while the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?’
32 Oasr pac mwet luo saya, kewana mwet orekma koluk, wi pac pwenyukla in tuh wi Jesus anwuki.
There were two others also, criminals, led out to be executed with Jesus.
33 Ke elos tuku nu ke acn se pangpang “Sri in Ahlunsuf” elos patkilya Jesus nu fin sakseng soko, oayapa mwet koluk luo ah, sie layen layot ac sie layen lasa sel.
When they had reached the place called “The Skull,” there they crucified Jesus and the criminals, one on the right, and one on the left.
34 Jesus el fahk, “Papa, nunak munas nu selos, tuh elos tia etu ma elos oru uh.” Elos kitalik nuknuk lal inmasrlolos ke susfa.
Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing.’ His clothes they divided among them by casting lots.
35 Mwet uh tu na liye ma uh ke mwet kol lun mwet Jew elos aksruksrukel ac fahk: “El molela mwet saya uh — lela elan sifacna molella, fin pwaye el pa Christ se ma God El sulela uh!”
Meanwhile the people stood looking on. Even the leading men said with a sneer, ‘He saved others, let him save himself, if he is God’s Christ, his chosen one.’
36 Mwet mweun uh oayapa aksruksrukel. Elos tuku nu yorol ac sang wain vinegar nu sel,
The soldiers, too, came up in mockery, bringing him common wine,
37 ac fahk, “Sifacna molikomla, fin pwaye kom tokosra lun mwet Jew.”
and saying as they did so, ‘If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.’
38 Kas inge simla oan lucng liki sifal, “El inge Tokosra lun mwet Jew.”
Above him were the words – “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
39 Sie sin mwet koluk ma wi sripsripyak uh fahk kas in angonkas nu sin Jesus: “Mea, tia kom pa Christ? Molikomla sifacna, ac kital uh!”
One of the criminals who were hanging beside Jesus railed at him. ‘Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us,’ he said.
40 A mwet se ngia kael ac fahk, “Ku kom tia sangeng sin God? Kom welul eis kain kaiyuk sefanna.
But the other rebuked him. ‘Haven’t you,’ he said, ‘any fear of God, now that you are under the same sentence?
41 Fal ma orek nu sik kom uh, mweyen kut eis lacnen orekma koluk lasr. A el, wangin kutena ma koluk el oru.”
And we justly so, for we are only reaping our deserts, but this man has not done anything wrong.
42 Na el fahk nu sin Jesus, “Jesus, esamyu ke kom tuku ke ku lun Tokosra!”
Jesus,’ he went on, ‘do not forget me when you have come to your kingdom.’
43 Jesus el fahk nu sel, “Pwayena nga fahk nu sum, misenge na kom ac wiyu in Paradise.”
And Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, this very day you will be with me in Paradise.’
44 Ke apkuran nu ke infulwen len, in polo acn sac nufon lohsrla ke lusen ao tolu.
It was nearly midday, when a darkness came over the whole country, lasting until three in the afternoon,
45 Kalmen faht uh wanginla, ac nuknuk lisringyen Acn Mutal Na Mutal ke Tempul uh mihsalik infulwa, ip luo lac.
the sun being eclipsed; and the Temple curtain was torn down the middle.
46 Jesus el wola ke sie pusra lulap ac fahk, “Papa! Nga asot ngunik nu inpoum!” El fahkla ma inge, na el misa.
Then Jesus, with a loud cry, said, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ And with these words he expired.
47 Mwet kol lun un mwet mweun el liye ma sikyak inge, ac el kaksakin God ac fahk, “Pwayena mwet se inge el sie mwet na suwohs!”
The Roman centurion, on seeing what had happened, praised God, exclaiming, ‘This must have been a good man!’
48 Ke mwet ma fahsreni in tuh intoein ma orek uh liye ma sikyak inge, elos nukewa usruk kwawalos ac folokelik nu lohm selos ac arulana asor.
All the people who had collected to see the sight watched what occurred, and then went home beating their breasts.
49 Ac mwet kawuk nukewa lun Jesus, wi mutan ma welul tuku Galilee me, elos tu loes kutu ac liye ma inge.
All the friends of Jesus had been standing at a distance, with the women who accompanied him from Galilee, watching all this.
50 Oasr mukul se, inel pa Joseph mwet Arimathea, sie siti in acn Judea. El sie mwet wo ac suwoswos, su sie sin mwet ke Un Mwet Pwapa Fulat lun mwet Jew.
Now there was a man of the name of Joseph, who was a member of the Council, and who bore a good and upright character.
51 Tusruktu el tia insese nu ke pwapa lalos ku ma elos oru uh, ac el tupan tuku lun Tokosrai lun God.
(This man had not assented to the decision and action of the Council.) He belonged to Arimathea, a town in Judea, and lived in expectation of the kingdom of God.
52 El tuh som nu yorol Pilate ac siyuk ke monin Jesus.
He now went to see Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus;
53 Na el sruhkya manol, pwela ke nuknuk linen se, ac filiya in sie kulyuk su pukpukyak in eot uh, ma soenna oasr mwet misa filiyuki loac.
and, when he had taken it down, he wrapped it in a linen sheet, and laid him in a tomb cut out of stone, in which no one had yet been buried.
54 Len sac pa Friday, ac apkuranyang nu ke len Sabbath.
It was the Preparation day, and just before the Sabbath began.
55 Mutan ma tuh welul Jesus tuku Galilee me elos welul Joseph in liye kulyuk sac, ac oayapa in liye onangan mano sac.
The women who had accompanied Jesus from Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how the body of Jesus was laid,
56 Na elos folokla nu lohm elos muta we, ac mutawauk in akoela ono ac mwe keng nu ke mano sac. Elos mongla ke len Sabbath, oana ke oakwuk lun Ma Sap uh.
and then went home, and prepared spices and perfumes. During the Sabbath they rested, as directed by the commandment.
