< Mwet Nununku 18 >

1 In pacl se inge wangin tokosra lun mwet Israel. Oayapa in pacl se inge mwet in sruf lal Dan elos suk pac sie acn elos in oakwuki we, mweyen soenna oasr acn itukyang nu selos tuh in ma lalos inmasrlon sruf lun Israel.
In those days there was no king in Israel, and the tribe of the Danites was looking for territory to occupy. For up to that time they had not come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
2 Ouinge mwet Dan elos sulela mwet pulaik limekosr inmasrlon sruf sac nufon, ac elos supwalosla liki acn Zorah ac Eshtaol ac sap elos in som ac tuni luman acn sac nufon oana mwet kalngeyuk. Ke elos sun infulan eol uh in acn Ephraim elos tuh muta ke lohm sel Micah.
So the Danites sent out five men from their clans, men of valor from Zorah and Eshtaol, to spy out the land and explore it. “Go and explore the land,” they told them. The men entered the hill country of Ephraim and came to the house of Micah, where they spent the night.
3 Ke elos muta we elos lohng ahyen sramsram lun mwet fusr Levi sac lah siena, na elos kalukyang nu yorol ac fahk, “Mea kom oru inge uh, ac su uskomme nu inge?”
And while they were near Micah’s house, they recognized the voice of the young Levite; so they went over and asked him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? Why are you here?”
4 Na el fahk nu selos, “Micah el srukyuyak ngan orekma lal, ac el moli nu sik tuh nga in mwet tol lal.”
“Micah has done this and that for me,” he replied, “and he has hired me to be his priest.”
5 Na elos fahk nu sel, “Nunak munas siyuk sin God ke fahsr se lasr inge lah ac wo ouiya.”
Then they said to him, “Please inquire of God to determine whether we will have a successful journey.”
6 Na mwet tol sac fahk, “Nik kowos fosrnga, tuh LEUM GOD El ac fah karingin kowos ke fahsr lowos ingan.”
And the priest told them, “Go in peace. The LORD is watching over your journey.”
7 Ouinge mwet limekosr ah som ac tuku nu in acn Laish, ac elos liye tuh mwet we elos muta in misla, oana mwet Sidon. Elos tiana akukuin yurin kutena mwet saya, ac arulana misla nunak lalos. Oayapa elos fas ke ma nukewa, wangin ma elos enenu. Elos muta loes liki acn mwet Sidon elos muta we, ac elos tia asruoki yurin kutena mutunfacl saya.
So the five men departed and came to Laish, where they saw that the people were living securely, like the Sidonians, tranquil and unsuspecting. There was nothing lacking in the land and no oppressive ruler. And they were far away from the Sidonians and had no alliance with anyone.
8 Ke mwet limekosr ah folokla nu in acn Zorah ac Eshtaol, mwet wialos elos siyuk selos, “Fuka ma kowos som kac ah?”
When the men returned to Zorah and Eshtaol, their brothers asked them, “What did you find?”
9 Ac elos fahk, “Fahsru, kut som mweuni acn Laish. Kut liye tuh acn we arulana wo. Nikmet pahtlac. Sulaklak! Kowos som eisla acn we!
They answered, “Come on, let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and it is very good. Why would you fail to act? Do not hesitate to go there and take possession of the land!
10 Kowos fin sun acn we, kowos fah liye lah mwet we ah tiana akoeyuk mweun ma, ac acn na lulap se pa inge ac wangin ma elos kwaco kac. God El sot tari tuh in ma lowos.”
When you enter, you will come to an unsuspecting people and a spacious land, for God has delivered it into your hand. It is a place where nothing on earth is lacking.”
11 Ouinge mwet onfoko sin sruf lal Dan elos som liki acn Zorah ac Eshtaol, ac akola in mweun.
So six hundred Danites departed from Zorah and Eshtaol, armed with weapons of war.
12 Elos utyak nu in acn Kiriath Jearim in acn Judah ac tulokunak lohm nuknuk selos we. Pa inge sripa se oru pangpang acn se inge Nien Aktuktuk lal Dan nwe misenge.
They went up and camped at Kiriath-jearim in Judah. That is why the place west of Kiriath-jearim is called Mahaneh-dan to this day.
13 Na elos som we lac nwe ke elos tuku sun lohm sel Micah ke fulan eol in acn Ephraim.
And from there they traveled to the hill country of Ephraim and came to Micah’s house.
14 Na mwet limekosr ma tuh som in tuni acn Laish elos fahk nu sin mwet wialos, “Ya kowos etu lah sie sin lohm inge oasr sie ma sruloala orek ke sak ac nukumyukla nufon ke silver— Ma sruloala saya ac sie nuknuk in mwet tol pangpang ephod oasr pac we. Kowos nunku tuh mea wo kut in oru?”
Then the five men who had gone to spy out the land of Laish said to their brothers, “Did you know that one of these houses has an ephod, household gods, a graven image, and a molten idol? Now think about what you should do.”
15 Na elos utyak nu in lohm sel Micah, nu yen mwet fusr Levi sac muta we, ac elos siyuk sel lah el fuka.
So they turned aside there and went to the home of the young Levite, the house of Micah, and greeted him.
16 In pacl sac pacna, mwet Dan onfoko su akola in mweun elos tu ke mutunpot in siti sac.
The six hundred Danites stood at the entrance of the gate, armed with their weapons of war.
And the five men who had gone to spy out the land went inside and took the graven image, the ephod, the household idols, and the molten idol, while the priest stood at the entrance of the gate with the six hundred armed men.
18 Ke mwet inge elos utyak nu in lohm sel Micah ac usla nuknuk ephod sac ac ma sruloala se ma orekla ke sak ac nukumyukla ke silver, oayapa ma sruloala saya ma oan in lohm sac, mwet tol sac el siyuk selos, “Mea kowos oru ingan?”
When they entered Micah’s house and took the graven image, the ephod, the household idols, and the molten idol, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?”
19 Elos fahk nu sel, “Misla! Nimet kaskas. Fahsru wi kut, mweyen kut lungse kom in mwet tol lasr, ac oana sie papa nu sesr. Pia kac ma wo uh — kom in mwet tol lun mwet sefanna ac sou lal, ku kom in mwet tol lun mwet nukewa ke sie sin sruf lun mwet Israel?”
“Be quiet,” they told him. “Put your hand over your mouth and come with us and be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be a priest for the house of one person or a priest for a tribe and family in Israel?”
20 Mwet tol sac el arulana engan ke kas se inge, na el eis nuknuk ephod sac ac ma sruloala se ma orekla ke sak ac nukumyukla ke silver, oayapa ma sruloala saya liki lohm sac, ac el wi mwet Israel ah som.
So the priest was glad and took the ephod, the household idols, and the graven image, and went with the people.
21 Na elos forla ac mutawauk fahsr, ac tulik natulos, kosro natulos, ac ma lalos nukewa fahsr meet lukelos.
Putting their small children, their livestock, and their possessions in front of them, they turned and departed.
22 Ke elos som loes liki lohm sel Micah, na Micah el pangoneni mwet tulan lal in ukwalos. Ac ke elos sun mwet Dan inge,
After they were some distance from Micah’s house, the men in the houses near Micah’s house mobilized and overtook the Danites.
23 elos wo elos. Na mwet Dan elos forla ac siyuk sel Micah, “Mea se inge— Mwe mea u na lulap se ingan?”
When they called out after them, the Danites turned to face them and said to Micah, “What is the matter with you that you have called out such a company?”
24 Na Micah el topuk ac fahk, “Mea kowos fahk an, ku kowos fahsrot ac usla mwet tol se luk oayapa god nukewa ma nga orala, na mea lula luk?”
He replied, “You took the gods I had made, and my priest, and went away. What else do I have? How can you say to me, ‘What is the matter with you?’”
25 Na mwet Dan elos fahk nu sel, “Taran, kom fin sifil fahk kutu ma na mwet inge ac foloyak ac lain kom. Ku na in anwuki kom ac sou lom an nufon.”
The Danites said to him, “Do not raise your voice against us, or angry men will attack you, and you and your family will lose your lives.”
26 Na mwet Dan elos sifilpa fahsr som. Ke Micah el akilen lah mwet inge arulana ku lukel, el forla ac folokla nu acn sel ah.
So the Danites went on their way, and Micah turned to go back home, because he saw that they were too strong for him.
27 Na mwet Dan elos us mwet tol sac ac ma nukewa Micah el tuh orala, na elos som ac mweuni mwet Laish. Mwet in acn se inge elos muta in misla. Mwet Dan elos uniya mwet we, ac esukak acn we.
After they had taken Micah’s idols and his priest, they went to Laish, to a tranquil and unsuspecting people, and they struck them with their swords and burned down the city.
28 Wangin mwet in molelosla, mweyen acn Laish oan loesla liki acn Sidon ke infahlfal se Bethrehob oan we, oayapa mwet Laish elos tia wi asruoki nu sin kutena mutunfacl saya. Mwet Dan elos sifil musaela acn we ac oakwuki we.
There was no one to deliver them, because the city was far from Sidon and had no alliance with anyone; it was in a valley near Beth-rehob. And the Danites rebuilt the city and lived there.
29 Elos ekulla e se inge Laish, ac sang inen acn sac Dan, ke inen papa matu tumalos Dan, sie sin wen natul Jacob.
They named it Dan, after their forefather Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city was formerly named Laish.
30 Mwet Dan elos tulokunak ma sruloala sac mwet uh in alu nu kac. Na Jonathan, wen natul Gershom su ma natul Moses, el mwet tol lalos nwe ke na utukla elos nu ke sruoh.
The Danites set up idols for themselves, and Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
31 Ma sruloala lal Micah oanna we ke lusen pacl ma Lohm Nuknuk Mutal lun God oan in acn Shiloh.
So they set up for themselves Micah’s graven image, and it was there the whole time the house of God was in Shiloh.
