< Job 1 >
1 Oasr mwet se pangpang Job, su muta in acn Uz. El sie mwet su alu nu sin God, ac el arulana inse pwaye nu sel. El sie mwet na wo, ac el arulana karinganang tuh elan tia oru kutena ma koluk.
There has been a man in the land of Uz—his name Job—and that man has been perfect and upright—both fearing God, and turning aside from evil.
2 Oasr wen itkosr ac acn tolu natul.
And seven sons and three daughters are borne to him,
3 Oasr pac itkosr tausin sheep, tolu tausin camel, cow tausin se, ac donkey lumfoko natul. Oayapa oasr mwet kulansap puspis lal, ac el kasrup liki mwet nukewa ke facl ma oan kutulap in acn Canaan.
and his substance is seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, and a very abundant service; and that man is greater than any of the sons of the east.
4 Kais sie wen itkosr natul Job inge ac muta orek kufwa, na tamulel uh kewa ac tuku nu kac, ac pacl nukewa elos ac suli pac tamtael tolu wialos in wi pac tuku nu kac.
And his sons have gone and made a banquet—the house of each [in] his day—and have sent and called to their three sisters to eat and to drink with them;
5 Ke lotu se tukun pacl in kufwa nukewa, Job el ac toangna tukakek ac orek kisa lun kais sie tulik inge in aknasnasyalosla. El oru ouinge mweyen el mu sahp sie selos tuh kaskas koluk lain God ke seasmak lal uh.
and it comes to pass, when they have gone around the days of the banquet, that Job sends and sanctifies them, and has risen early in the morning, and caused burnt-offerings to ascend—the number of them all—for Job said, “Perhaps my sons have sinned, yet blessed God in their heart.” Thus Job does all the days.
6 Ke sun pacl se ma lipufan uh ac tuku nu ye mutun LEUM GOD, Satan el wi pac tuku.
And the day is, that sons of God come to station themselves by YHWH, and there also comes Satan in their midst.
7 Na LEUM GOD El siyuk sel, “Kom muta ya tuku?” Na Satan el topuk ac fahk, “Nga forfor na, rarauni faclu.”
And YHWH says to Satan, “Where do you come from?” And Satan answers YHWH and says, “From going to and fro in the land, and from walking up and down on it.”
8 Na LEUM GOD El fahk, “Ya kom liyal Job, mwet kulansap luk ah? Wangin sie mwet fin faclu wo ac inse pwaye nu sik oana el. El alu nu sik ac arulana taran elan tia orala kutena ma koluk.”
And YHWH says to Satan, “Have you set your heart against My servant Job because there is none like him in the land, a man perfect and upright, fearing God, and turning aside from evil?”
9 Na Satan el fahk, “Ya Job el alu nu sum ke wangin?
And Satan answers YHWH and says, “Is Job fearing God for nothing?
10 Kom nuna karinganul wi sou lal ac ma nukewa lal. Kom akinsewowoye ma nukewa el oru, ac kom sang cow na pus natul, ekoslana acn uh.
Have You not made a hedge for him, and for his house, and for all that he has—all around?
11 Tusruktu kom fin eisla ma lal inge nukewa lukel, el ac ngetot nu sum ac selngawikomi!”
You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance has spread in the land, and yet, put forth Your hand now, and strike against anything that he has—if not, he blesses You to Your face!”
12 Na LEUM GOD El fahk nu sel Satan, “Kwal, ma nukewa lal Job oan inpoum, tusruktu taranna kom in tia oru kutena ma nu ke manol Job.” Ouinge Satan el som.
And YHWH says to Satan, “Behold, all that he has [is] in your hand, only do not put forth your hand to him.” And Satan goes out from the presence of YHWH.
13 Sie len ah ke tulik natul Job elos tukeni ac orek kufwa in lohm sin wen se ma matu oemeet wialos ah,
And the day is, that his sons and his daughters are eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn.
14 na mwet utuk kas se kasrusr tuku nu ke lohm sel Job ac fahk, “Kut tuh orekmakin ox uh in kihling acn ah, ac donkey ah muta inima se ma apkuran nu yen kut orekma we.
And a messenger has come to Job and says, “The oxen have been plowing, and the female donkeys feeding by their sides,
15 Na mwet Sabea elos tuku orek lokoalok, ac pisrala nufon kosro inge. Elos uniya nufon mwet kulansap lom, ac nga mukena kaingla ngan tuh fahkot nu sum.”
and Sheba falls, and takes them, and they have struck the young men by the mouth of the sword, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
16 Meet liki safla ma el fahk uh, sie pac mwet kulansap ah tuku ac fahk, “Sarom ah uniya sheep ac mwet karingin ah nufon. Nga mukena kaingla ngan tuh fahkot nu sum.”
While this [one] is speaking another has also come and says, “Fire of God has fallen from the heavens, and burns among the flock, and among the young men, and consumes them, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
17 Na meet liki safla sramsram lal ah, sie pac mwet kulansap ah tuku ac fahk, “U tolu sin mwet Chaldea elos tuku orek lokoalok nu sesr ac usla camel uh, ac uniya mwet kulansap lom nukewa sayuk. Nga mukena kaingla ngan tuh fahkot nu sum.”
While this [one] is speaking another also has come and says, “Chaldeans made three heads, and rush on the camels, and take them, and they have struck the young men by the mouth of the sword, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
18 El srakna sramsram, na sie pac mwet kulansap ah tuku ac fahk, “Tulik nutum ah orek kufwa in lohm sin wen matu se nutum ah,
While this [one] is speaking another has also come and says, “Your sons and your daughters are eating, and drinking wine, in the house of their brother, the firstborn.
19 na polo eng na upa se tuhme yen mwesis ah me. Eng sac ikruiya lohm sac twe onelosla nufon. Nga mukena kaingla tuku ngan tuh fahkot nu sum.”
And behold, a great wind has come from over the wilderness, and strikes against the four corners of the house, and it falls on the young men, and they are dead, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
20 Na Job el tuyak ac seya nuknuk lal ah ke asor. El kalla nufon aunsifal ac putati oankiyuki nu infohk uh.
And Job rises, and tears his robe, and shaves his head, and falls to the earth, and pays respect,
21 Ac el fahk, “Nga isusla pisinpo, ac nga ac misa pisinpo. LEUM GOD El tuh ase, na pa inge El sifil eisla. Lela Inel in kaksakinyuk!”
and he says, “I came forth naked from the womb of my mother, And naked I return there. YHWH has given and YHWH has taken; Let the Name of YHWH be blessed.”
22 Ma upa inge nukewa ne sikyak nu sel Job, a el tiana tafongla ac sis nu fin God koluk uh.
In all this Job has not sinned, nor given folly to God.
