< Ecclesiastes 7 >

1 Sie elah wo el wo liki ono keng yohk molo; ac len in misa lom wo liki len in isusla lom.
A good name [is] better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
2 Wo in som nu ke sie lohm ma oasr tung ac mwemelil we liki in som nu ke sie lohm ma mwet uh orek kufwa we, mweyen fal mwet moul uh in esam lah misa uh soanekut nukewa.
[It is] better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that [is] the end of all men; and the living will lay [it] to his heart.
3 Asor wo liki israsr — sahp ac oru kom ngetnget in asor, tusruktu ac akyokye etauk lom uh.
Sorrow [is] better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.
The heart of the wise [is] in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools [is] in the house of mirth.
5 Kas in kai sin sie mwet lalmwetmet, wo liki kas in kaksak lun mwet lalfon.
[It is] better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
Wanginna kalmeya.
For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so [is] the laughter of the fool: this also [is] vanity.
7 Sie mwet lalmwetmet fin kutasrik nu sin sie pac mwet, el orekma oana mwet lalfon. Kom fin eis molin eyeinse, kom sifacna akkolukyekomla.
Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
8 Sie ma aksafyeyukla, wo liki sie ma tufahna mutawauk. Mongfisrasr uh wo liki inse fulat.
Better [is] the end of a thing than its beginning: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit.
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
Say not thou, What is [the cause] that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
11 Mwet nukewa su moul enenu in lalmwetmet. Mweyen lalmwetmet uh wo oana ke sie mwet el usrui ma wo.
Wisdom [is] good with an inheritance: and [by it there is] profit to them that see the sun.
12 Lalmwetmet ac fah asot nu sum inse misla oana mani uh.
For wisdom [is] a defense, [and] money [is] a defense: but the excellence of knowledge [is], [that] wisdom giveth life to them that have it.
13 Nunku ke ma God El orala. Sie mwet ac aksuwosyela fuka sie ma God El akkihyela?
Consider the work of God: for who can make [that] straight, which he hath made crooked?
14 Ke pacl ma nukewa wo nu sum uh, engankin; ac ke pacl ma upa uh sikyak, esam lah God El supu kewana pacl in engan ac pacl upa; kom koflana etu lah mea ac sikyak tok.
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
All [things] have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just [man] that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked [man] that prolongeth [his life] in his wickedness.
16 Ke ma inge nik kom arulana orek suwohs ku orek lalmwetmet — mwe mea kom in sifacna unikomi?
Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldst thou destroy thyself?
17 Tusruktu nik kom arulana eiskomyang in oru ma koluk ku oru ma lalfon — efu ku kom in misa meet liki pacl fal lom?
Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldst thou die before thy time?
18 Karinginkomyang liki ouiya inge kewa. Kom fin akfulatye God, kom ac nuna sun wo ouiya.
[It is] good that thou shouldst take hold of this; yes, also from this withdraw not thy hand: for he that feareth God shall escape from them all.
19 Lalmwetmet uh ac akwoye sie mwet yohk liki na ma mwet kol singoul ku in oru nu ke sie siti.
Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty [men] who are in the city.
20 Wangin sie mwet fin faclu oru ma suwohs pacl nukewa ac tiana orala sie tafongla.
For [there is] not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
21 Nik kom lohang nu ke ma nukewa ma mwet uh fahk uh — sahp kom ac lohngak ke mwet kulansap lom el kaskas akkolukye kom,
Also take no heed to all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:
22 ac kom sifacna etu lah kom fahk kas in akkolukye mwet pacl puspis.
For often also thy own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.
23 Nga orekmakin lalmwetmet luk in srike ma inge nukewa. Nga wotela na ku sik ngan lalmwetmet, tusruktu loesla likiyu.
All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it [was] far from me.
24 Sie mwet ac konauk fuka lah mea kalmen moul uh? Arulana loalla nu sesr ac upala kut in kalem kac.
That which is far off, and exceedingly deep, who can find it out?
25 Tusruktu nga eisyuyang nu ke etauk ac lutlut; nga tuh sulela nga in suk lalmwetmet ac top nu ke mwe siyuk luk, ac in etu lupan koluk ac lalfon lun nikin uh.
I applied my heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason [of things], and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness [and] madness:
26 Oasr ma nga konauk mwen liki na misa uh, pa mutan se su lungse lal uh oana sie sruhf ku sie nwek. Paol ac sruokkomi oana soko sein. Sie mukul su oru ma lungse lun God el ku in kaingla liki mutan sac, a funu sie mukul koluk, mutan sac ac sruokilyana.
And I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart [is] snares and nets, [and] her hands [as] bands: whoever pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.
27 Na Mwet Luti Lalmwetmet el fahk, nga kais kutu srisrik na konauk ma inge ke nga suk top nu ke mwe siyuk luk uh.
Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, [counting] one by one, to find out the account:
28 Nga suk kutu pac top saya tuh wangin ma nga konauk. Nga konauk mukul sefanna inmasrlon tausin su nga ku in lulalfongi, ac tia siefanna mutan nga ku in lulalfongi.
Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.
29 Pa inge ma nga lotela: God El orekutla suwohs ac pwaye, ac kut sifacna oru kut in arulana fohsak.
Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
