1 Tokosra Jehoshaphat lun acn Judah el moul foloko nu in lohm sin tokosra in acn Jerusalem.
When King Jehoshaphat was returning safely to his palace in Jerusalem,
2 Mwet palu Jehu, wen natul Hanani, el som in osun nu sin tokosra ac fahk nu sel, “Ku kom nunku mu wo in kasru mwet koluk, ac in wi layen lun mwet su kwase LEUM GOD? Ma kom oru inge pa pwanang kasrkusrak lun LEUM GOD in tuku nu fom.
the prophet Jehu, the son of [the prophet] Hanani, went out of the city to meet the king, and said to him, “It was not right for you to help a wicked man and to love those who hate Yahweh. Because of what you have done, Yahweh is angry with you.
3 Tuh finne ouinge, oasr na ma wo in kom. Kom kunausla ma sruloala nukewa kacl god mutan Asherah su mwet uh alu nu kac, ac kom sang insiom in fahsr tukun ma lungse lun God.”
But you have done some good things; you got rid of the poles in this country for [worshiping the goddess] Asherah, and you have strongly determined to do what pleases God.”
4 Tokosra Jehoshaphat el finne muta in acn Jerusalem, el forfor pacl nukewa inmasrlon mwet lal, mutawauk Beersheba in acn eir, nwe ke sisken infulan eol in acn Ephraim nu epang, tuh elan folokonma mwet uh nu sin LEUM GOD lun papa tumalos.
Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem. But [one time], like he had done once previously, he went out among all the people in the country, from Beersheba [city in the far south] to the hilly area of [the tribe of] Ephraim [in the far north], and he convinced them to return to [worshiping] Yahweh, the God whom their ancestors [worshiped].
5 El srisrngiya mwet nununku nu in kais sie siti kuhlusyukyak in acn Judah,
He appointed judges throughout Judah, in each of the cities that had walls around them.
6 ac fahk nu selos, “Karinganang ma kowos wotela ke pacl in nununku lowos uh. Kowos tia orekma ke ku lun mwet, a ke ku lun LEUM GOD. El ac wi kowos in orala nununku suwohs.
He told them, “Make your decisions carefully, because you are judging cases not [in order] to [please] people but to [please] Yahweh. And he will be watching you whenever you make a decision.
7 Akfulatye LEUM GOD ac taran orekma lowos, mweyen LEUM GOD lasr El tia lela in oasr kutasrik, ku wiwikas, ku eis mol sin mwet orek eyeinse.”
So now revere Yahweh, and judge cases carefully, [and do not forget that] Yahweh our God never acts unjustly, and he never does what people want because of their offering him money; he never accepts bribes.”
8 In acn Jerusalem Jehoshaphat el srisrngiya mwet Levi, mwet tol, ac sifen sou, in mwet nununku ke pacl oasr lainyen ma sap lun LEUM GOD, ku ke amei inmasrlon mwet in siti sac.
In Jerusalem also, Jehoshaphat appointed some priests and other descendants of Levi and some leaders of Israeli families [to be judges]. He told them to do what Yahweh’s laws said was right when they settled disputes. Those men lived in Jerusalem.
9 El fahk suwoswos nu selos, “Ke kowos oru orekma lowos, kowos enenu in oru in akfulatye LEUM GOD, ac kowos in oaru in aksol in ma nukewa kowos oru.
He told them this: “You must always do your work faithfully, revering Yahweh.
10 Kutena pacl mwet liwos fin tuku liki siti selos ac use tukak ke akmas, ku ke kutena lumah ma lain ma sap ac ma oakwuk, kowos enenu in akkalemye nu selos ouiya fal elos in oru ke pacl in nununku, tuh elos in tia tafongla ac oru ma koluk lain LEUM GOD. Kowos fin tia oru ouinge, kowos ac mwet liwos ac fah pula kasrkusrak lulap lun LEUM GOD. A kowos fin oru ma kunowos in wo, na ac fah wangin mwatuwos.
In every dispute that your fellow Israelis who live in the cities want you to settle, you must warn them to not sin against Yahweh [by telling lies during the trial]. If you do not warn them, God will punish both you and your fellow Israelis. If you warn them, you will not be sinning. You must warn them whether [someone has accused them] of murdering someone, or of disobeying some other law or command or decree [of Yahweh].
11 Amariah, Mwet Tol Fulat, pa ac oru nununku safla ke ip lun alu, ac Zebadiah wen natul Ishmael, governor lun Judah, pa ac oru nununku safla ke ip lun government. Ma kunen mwet Levi in liye tuh ma wotla nukewa ke pacl in nununku in fahla oana ma wotla. Kowos in pulaik na in karingin ma inge, ac lela LEUM GOD Elan wi layen ma suwohs!”
Amariah the Supreme Priest will supervise you in any matter that Yahweh is concerned about, and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the leader of the tribe of Judah, will supervise you in any matter that I am responsible for. And the descendants of Levi will assist you. Act courageously, and I pray that Yahweh will help those who do their work well.”
