< Sie Samuel 5 >
1 Tukun mwet Philistia sruokya Tuptup in Wuleang elos usla liki acn Ebenezer nu Ashdod, siti selos sifacna.
After the army of the Philistia people-group captured God’s sacred chest in Ebenezer [town], they took it to Ashdod [which is one of their biggest cities].
2 Elos usak nu in tempul lun god Dagon, ac filiya sisken ma sruloala se kacl sifacna.
They carried it into the temple of [their god] Dagon, and placed it alongside a statue of Dagon.
3 Ke mwet Ashdod elos toang tukakek in lutu tok ah, elos liye tuh ma sruloala kacl Dagon putatla oankiyuki ye mutun Tuptup in Wuleang lun LEUM GOD. Na elos srukak ma sruloala sac ac sifilpa folokonak nu yen se oan we ah.
But early the next morning, when the people of Ashdod [went to see it, they saw that] the statue had fallen on its face in front of Yahweh’s sacred chest! So they set the statue up in its place again.
4 Toang in lutu tok ah, elos sifilpa liye tuh ma sruloala sac putatla ac oankiyuki ye mutun Tuptup in Wuleang. Pacl se inge sifa ac poun ma sruloala sac kipatla ac putatla oan ke mutunoa. Manol mukena oan sisken Tuptup in Wuleang.
But the following morning, [they saw that] it had fallen down in front of the sacred chest again. But this time, the statue’s head and hands had broken off, and were lying in the doorway. Only its body remained intact/unbroken.
5 (Ke sripa se inge, mwet tol lal Dagon, ku kutena mwet su utyak in alu nu sel in acn Ashdod, elos ac tupalot acn sac ac tia longya ye srungul uh. Ma inge orek na nwe misenge.)
That is the reason that since that time, the priests of Dagon and everyone else who enters the temple of Dagon in Ashdod do not step on the doorsill [where the hands and head of Dagon fell].
6 LEUM GOD El akkeokye mwet Ashdod arulana upa ac aksangengyalos. El sang kai nu selos ac oayapa mwet su muta raunelosla. El oru tuh in oasr mahlap in manolos.
Then Yahweh [SYN] powerfully caused the people of Ashdod and the people who lived in nearby villages to have (a very great plague/serious illness) of tumors.
7 Ac ke mwet Ashdod elos liye ma sikyak inge, elos fahk, “God lun Israel El akkeokye kut ac god lasr Dagon. Kut tia ku in lela Tuptup in Wuleang in oan paht yorosr.”
The men of Ashdod realized why this was happening, and they cried out, “The god of the Israeli people is punishing us and is also punishing our god Dagon. So we cannot allow the sacred chest of the god of the Israelis to remain here!”
8 Ouinge elos supwalik mwet in pangoneni tokosra limekosr lun mwet Philistia ac siyuk selos, “Mea kut ac oru ke Tuptup in Wuleang lun God lun Israel?” Ac elos topuk ac fahk, “Usla nu Gath.” Na elos usla nu Gath, sie pac siti lun mwet Philistia.
They summoned the five kings of the Philistia people-group, and asked them, “What should we do with the sacred chest of the god of the Israelis?” The kings replied, “Take the sacred chest to Gath [city].” So they moved it to Gath.
9 Ac tukun elos usla Tuptup sac nu Gath, LEUM GOD El kai pac siti sac ac oru tuh mwet we in arulana fohsak. El akkeokyalos ke mahlap in manolos — sikyak nu sin mwet nukewa in siti sac, mwet matu oayapa mwet fusr.
But after they took it to Gath, Yahweh powerfully struck the people of that city also, with the result that many men, including young men and old men, got tumors on their skin. Then the people became very afraid.
10 Ke ma inge elos supwala Tuptup in Wuleang nu Ekron, sie pac siti lun mwet Philistia. Na ke pacl se sun acn se inge, mwet we elos wowoyak ac fahk, “Elos use Tuptup in Wuleang lun God lun Israel in tuh unikutla!”
So they took the sacred chest to Ekron [city]. But when the men carried the sacred chest into Ekron, the people there cried out, “Why are you bringing the sacred chest of the God of the Israelis into our city [RHQ]? [By doing that] you will cause us and the rest of our people to die!”
11 Na mwet inge sifilpa supwala mwet in pangonma tokosra limekosr lun mwet Philistia ac fahk, “Folokunla Tuptup in Wuleang lun God lun Israel nu in acn se sifacna, tuh in tia unikutla ac sou lasr.” Mwet nukewa in siti sac arulana fohsak mweyen upana kaiyuk lun God nu selos.
The people were terrified/in panic because [they knew that] God was starting to punish them severely. So they summoned the [five] kings of the Philistia people-group again, and [pleaded with them], saying, “Take this sacred chest of the god of the Israelis back to its own place! If you do not do that quickly, we will all die!”
12 Finne elos su tiana misa, oasr mahlap sikyak in manolos ac elos pang nu sin god lalos ac kwafe tuh elos in kasrelos.
Some of the people in Ekron had already died, and the rest of the people were suffering because of tumors on their skin. So they all cried out to their gods [MTY] [to help them].
