< Romanos 4 >

1 ¿Jas kꞌu kaqabꞌij che ri xkꞌulmataj rukꞌ ri Abraham ri qatiꞌt qamam?
What then shall we say of Abraham, our ancestor in the flesh?
2 We ta xbꞌan sukꞌ che rumal ri utz taq chak ri xubꞌano, xunaꞌ ta nimal riꞌ pune man kakwin taj kubꞌan nimal cho ri Dios.
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to be proud of, but not before God.
3 ¿Jas kꞌu kubꞌij ri tzꞌibꞌatalik? Ri Abraham xukoj ri xubꞌij ri Dios che, rumal riꞌ xbꞌix che chi sukꞌ achi.
For what does Scripture say? And Abraham believed God, and it was set down to his account as righteousness.
4 Kamik kꞌut we kꞌo jun kachakunik, ri tojbꞌal rech man xa ta kasipaxik, xane xa katoj bꞌik ri kꞌasaj che.
Now if a man earn his pay by his work, it is not counted to him as a favor, but it is paid him as a debt;
5 Are kꞌu ri man kachakun taj, xane xaq xwi kakojon che ri kabꞌanow sukꞌ che ri itzel winaq, are kil ri ukojobꞌal rech jeriꞌ kabꞌan sukꞌ che.
but a man who does not "work," but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, has his faith imputed to him for righteousness.
6 Ri David xuqujeꞌ xubꞌij chi utz rech ri achi ri kabꞌantaj sukꞌ che rumal ri Dios, man rumal taj ri uchak.
Just as David also speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from actions.
7 Jewaꞌ xubꞌij: Utz ke ri kekuyutaj che ri etzelal ri kibꞌanom xuqujeꞌ kachꞌuqtaj ri kimak.
Blessed he says are they whose iniquities have been forgiven, And whose sins have been covered.
8 Utz rech ri achi ri man are ta kil ri umak rumal ri Dios.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
9 ¿La xaq xwi kꞌu yaꞌtal we riꞌ chike ri okisatal ketal? ¿La man kꞌu yaꞌtal xuqujeꞌ chike ri man e kojtal ta ketal? Xbꞌiꞌtaj qumal chi ri Abraham xbꞌix sukꞌ che rumal ri ukojobꞌal.
Is this blessing, then, for the circumcised alone? or for the uncircumcised also? Abraham’s faith, I say, was imputed to him for righteousness.
10 ¿Jas kꞌu rumal xbꞌantaj sukꞌ che? ¿La bꞌantajinaq chi kꞌu sukꞌ che are xokisax retal o are majaꞌ kokisax ri retal? Bꞌantal chi sukꞌ are majaꞌ kakoj retal.
How then was it imputed to him? When he was circumcised? or uncircumcised? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision;
11 Xuqujeꞌ are majaꞌ kakoj retal, xukꞌamawaꞌj ri etal jetaq jun etal rech ri sukꞌal ri xkꞌamawaꞌx pa ri kojobꞌal. Jeriꞌ ri Abraham kitat kojonel ri kekojonik, pune man kojtal ketal, rech xa rumal ri kikojobꞌal kabꞌan sukꞌ chike.
and he received circumcision as a sign, a seal of the faith- righteousness which he had while he was in uncircumcision; in order that he might be the father of all who believe, even though they are uncircumcised; so that righteousness might be imputed to them.
12 Xuqujeꞌ kitat konojel ri winaq ri man xwi ta xkoj ketal xane kitereneꞌm ri unoꞌjibꞌal ri qatat Abraham, areꞌ xkojonik are majaꞌ kakoj retal.
He is the father of circumcision to those who are not merely circumcised, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham which he held while he was as yet uncircumcised.
13 Jeriꞌ rumal cher ri Dios man xubꞌij ta chike ri Abraham xuqujeꞌ ri e rijaꞌl chi kakechabꞌej na ronojel ri uwachulew rumal ri taqanik, xane kakechabꞌej na rumal ri kojobꞌal.
For the promise that he should be heir of the world did not come to Abraham or to his posterity through law, but through faith- righteousness.
14 Rumal kꞌu cher we ta are eꞌchanel ri e kꞌo chuxeꞌ ri taqanik, maj bꞌa kutayij riꞌ ri kojobꞌal xuqujeꞌ maj kutayij ri bꞌiꞌtal loq.
For if those who are righteous through law are heirs, faith is empty and the promise becomes void.
15 Ri taqanik xaq xwi rukꞌaꞌm loq qꞌatoj tzij, jawjeꞌ maj wi taqanik maj xuqujeꞌ makaj.
For law works wrath; but where there is no law, neither is there transgression.
16 Rumal riꞌ, xa rumal ri kojobꞌal xuqujeꞌ ri toqꞌobꞌ, kape ri bꞌiꞌtal loq rech jeriꞌ kajeqiꞌ chike konojel ri e rijaꞌl, man xaq xwi taj chike ri e kꞌo chuxeꞌ ri taqanik xane xuqujeꞌ chike ri kꞌo kikojobꞌal jetaq ri rech ri Abraham, are kitat konojel ri kekojonik.
This is why righteousness is of faith, that it may be a free gift; so that the promise stands firm to all Abraham’s posterity; not to his children of his faith. For in the sight of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead, and calls into being that which is not, Abraham is the father of us all both Jews and Gentiles,
17 Jetaq kubꞌij ri Tyoxalaj Wuj: Nubꞌim chawe chi katux na kitat sibꞌalaj e kꞌi tinimit winaq, xaq jeriꞌ ri Abraham xkojonik che ri Dios ri kuya kikꞌaslemal ri kaminaqibꞌ xuqujeꞌ kubꞌij chi ri jastaq ri majaꞌ kilitaj uwach, kꞌo chik.
as it is written, I have made you a father of many nations.
18 Ri Abraham xukojo xuqujeꞌ xrayeꞌj rech jeriꞌ xux na kitat sibꞌalaj e kꞌi winaq. Jetaq ri xbꞌix che: Sibꞌalaj e kꞌi na ri awijaꞌl.
For Abraham, hoping against hope, had faith to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, So numberless shall your descendants be.
19 Man xchuquchubꞌ taj chukojik ri xbꞌix che pune riꞌj chik, kaminaq chik ri utyoꞌjal, jeriꞌ rumal jun ciento chik ujunabꞌ, xuqujeꞌ ri Sara man kakwin ta chik kekꞌojiꞌ ral.
Though he was about a hundred years old, his faith did not fail him when he regarded his own body, now as good as dead. and remembered Sarah’s barrenness.
20 Man xkabꞌalaj ta ukꞌuꞌx chukojik ri ubꞌim loq ri Dios che, xane sibꞌalaj xjeqiꞌ pa ri ukojobꞌal, xuqujeꞌ xuya uqꞌij ri Dios.
Nor did he with regard to the promise of God waver in unbelief, but he waxed strong in faith, while he gave God glory,
21 Sibꞌalaj xjeqiꞌ ukꞌuꞌx chi ri Dios sibꞌalaj kwinel chubꞌanik ri ubꞌim loq.
and was fully persuaded that what God had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 Rumal riꞌ xbꞌix che chi jun sukꞌ achi rumal ri ukojobꞌal.
And so his faith was reckoned to him for righteousness.
23 Man xwi ta kꞌu xtzꞌibꞌaxik chi xkoj pa kwenta ri ukojobꞌal ri Abraham, rech karil ri Abraham.
Now these words were not written simply for his sake, but for us as well.
24 Xane xuqujeꞌ xtzꞌibꞌaxik rech kaqil uj. Ri Dios karil na ri qakojobꞌal rech jeriꞌ kubꞌan sukꞌ chaqe, rumal ri kaqakojo chi ri Dios are xwaꞌjilisan ri Jesús ri Ajawxel chikixoꞌl ri kaminaqibꞌ.
For it will be "reckoned for righteousness." to us also, who believe on him that raised from the dead our Lord Jesus;
25 Ri Jesús xjach pa kamikal rumal ri qamak xuqujeꞌ xkꞌastaj uwach chikixoꞌl ri kaminaqibꞌ chubꞌanik sukꞌ chaqe.
who was betrayed to death for our transgressions, and raised again to life for our justification.
