ಜ್ಞಾನೋಕ್ತಿಗಳು 23
1 ಆಳುವವನ ಸಂಗಡ ನೀನು ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕುಳಿತಿರುವಾಗ, ನಿನ್ನ ಎದುರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಗಮನಿಸು.
When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well who is before thee;
2 ನೀನು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಬಾಕನಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ನಿನ್ನ ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆಗೆ ಖಡ್ಗವನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೋ.
and put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
3 ಅವನ ರುಚಿ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸಬೇಡ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ಮೋಸದ ಆಹಾರವು.
Be not desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.
4 ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯವಂತನಾಗುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಸಪಡಬೇಡ; ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸ್ವಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನೇ ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಬೇಡ.
Weary not thyself to become rich; cease from thine own intelligence:
5 ಕಣ್ಣು ಮಿಟುಕಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದು ನಿಸ್ಸಂದೇಹವಾಗಿ ರೆಕ್ಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡು ಹದ್ದಿನಂತೆ ಆಕಾಶದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಹಾರಿಹೋಗುವುದು.
wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens.
6 ಜಿಪುಣನ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನಬೇಡ; ಅವನ ರುಚಿ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಆಶಿಸಬೇಡ.
Eat thou not the food of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties.
7 ಏಕೆಂದರೆ, ಅವನು ಎಲ್ಲದಕ್ಕೂ ಬೆಲೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಯೋಚನೆಯುಳ್ಳವನಂತೆ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ; ಅವನು, “ತಿನ್ನು, ಕುಡಿ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ; ಆದರೆ ಅವನ ಹೃದಯವು ನಿನ್ನೊಂದಿಗಿಲ್ಲ.
For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee.
8 ನೀನು ತಿಂದ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ತುತ್ತನ್ನು ಕಕ್ಕಿಬಿಡುವೆ; ನಿನ್ನ ಸವಿಮಾತುಗಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ.
Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou vomit up, and thou wilt have wasted thy sweet words.
9 ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನರ ಸಂಗಡ ಮಾತಾಡಬೇಡ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಅವರು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸುವನು.
Speak not in the ears of a foolish [man], for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
10 ಪೂರ್ವಕಾಲದ ಮೇರೆಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆಯಬೇಡ; ಅನಾಥರ ಹೊಲಗಳನ್ನು ಅತಿಕ್ರಮಿಸಬೇಡ.
Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
11 ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವನ ವಿಮೋಚಕನು ಬಲಶಾಲಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ; ಅವರ ವ್ಯಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಆತನು ವಾದಿಸುವನು.
for their redeemer is mighty; he will plead their cause against thee.
12 ಶಿಸ್ತಿಗೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವನ್ನೂ ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯ ಮಾತುಗಳಿಗೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಕಿವಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಕೊಡು.
Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
13 ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಶಿಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಹಿಂದೆಗೆಯಬೇಡ; ಬೆತ್ತದಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆದರೆ, ಅವರು ಸಾಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
Withhold not correction from the child; for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die:
thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
15 ಮಗನೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವು ಜ್ಞಾನವುಳ್ಳದ್ದಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ನನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವು ಹರ್ಷಿಸುವುದು.
My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine;
16 ನಿನ್ನ ತುಟಿಗಳು ಯಥಾರ್ಥವಾದವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತಾಡಿದರೆ, ನನ್ನ ಅಂತರಾತ್ಮವು ಸಂತೋಷಿಸುವುದು.
and my reins shall exult, when thy lips speak right things.
17 ಪಾಪಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವು ಅಸೂಯೆಪಡದಿರಲಿ; ಆದರೆ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರ ಭಯದಲ್ಲಿರಲು ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಆಸಕ್ತನಾಗಿರು.
Let not thy heart envy sinners, but [be thou] in the fear of Jehovah all the day;
18 ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ನಿನಗೆ ಮುಂದಿನ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದೆ; ನಿನ್ನ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯು ನಿರರ್ಥಕವಾಗದು.
for surely there is a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
19 ಮಗನೇ, ಕೇಳಿ ಜ್ಞಾನವಂತನಾಗು; ನೀತಿ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸು.
Thou, my son, hear and be wise, and direct thy heart in the way.
20 ಅತಿ ಮದ್ಯಪಾನ ಮಾಡುವವರಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿ ಮಾಂಸಭಕ್ಷರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸೇರಬೇಡ.
Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh.
21 ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಕುಡುಕರೂ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಬಾಕರೂ ದುರ್ಗತಿಗೆ ಬರುವರು; ತೂಕಡಿಕೆಯು ಹರಕು ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊದಿಸುವದು.
For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth with rags.
22 ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತ ತಂದೆಯ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡು, ನಿನ್ನ ತಾಯಿ ಮುಪ್ಪಿನವಳಾದಾಗ ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಅಸಡ್ಡೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಡ.
Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
23 ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನೂ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನೂ ವಿವೇಕವನ್ನೂ ಕೊಂಡುಕೋ; ಆದರೆ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾರಬೇಡ.
Buy the truth, and sell it not; wisdom, and instruction, and intelligence.
24 ನೀತಿವಂತನ ತಂದೆಯು ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುವನು; ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯಾದ ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದವನಿಗೆ ಅವನಿಂದ ಆನಂದವಾಗುವುದು.
The father of a righteous [man] shall greatly rejoice, and he that begetteth a wise [son] shall have joy of him:
25 ನಿನ್ನ ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಗಳು ಸಂತೋಷಿಸುವರು; ನಿನ್ನ ಹೆತ್ತ ತಾಯಿ ಆನಂದಿಸುವಳು.
let thy father and thy mother have joy, and let her that bore thee rejoice.
26 ಮಗನೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಕೊಡು; ನನ್ನ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಆನಂದಿಸಲಿ.
My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
27 ವೇಶ್ಯೆಯು ಆಳವಾದ ಕುಣಿ; ವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರಿಣಿಯು ಇಕ್ಕಟ್ಟಾದ ಗುಂಡಿ.
For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
28 ಕಳ್ಳನಂತೆ ಅವಳು ಹೊಂಚು ಹಾಕಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ರೋಹಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ.
She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the treacherous among men.
29 ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ? ಯಾರಿಗೆ ದುಃಖ? ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಕಲಹಗಳು? ಯಾರು ಗೊಣಗುಟ್ಟುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಯಾರು ಸುಮ್ಮಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಗಾಯಪಡುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಕೆಂಪೇರಿದ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು?
Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who contentions? Who complaining? Who wounds without cause? Who redness of eyes?
30 ಮದ್ಯಪಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಸಕ್ತರಾಗಿ, ಮಿಶ್ರ ಮದ್ಯಪಾನವನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯ ಬಯಸುವವರೇ ಅಲ್ಲವೇ!
— They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.
31 ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸವು ಕೆಂಪಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಪಾತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಥಳಥಳಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಚಲಿಸಿದರೆ, ಅದನ್ನು ನೋಡಬೇಡ.
Look not upon the wine when it is red, when it sparkleth in the cup, and goeth down smoothly:
32 ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಅದು ಹಾವಿನಂತೆ ಕಚ್ಚುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ಪದಂತೆ ವಿಷವುಕ್ಕಿಸುವುದು.
at the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
33 ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತವೆ. ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಗೊಂದಲಮಯ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall speak froward things;
34 ನೀನು ಸಮುದ್ರದ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಲಗಿರುವವನಂತೆ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಹಡಗಿನ ಕಂಬದ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವಿ.
and thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, and as he that lieth down upon the top of a mast:
35 “ಜನರು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದರೂ ನನಗೆ ನೋವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ; ನಾನು ಎಚ್ಚರವಾಗುವುದು ಯಾವಾಗ? ಪುನಃ ನಾನು ಅದನ್ನು ಕುಡಿದೇನು?” ಎಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವೆ.
— “They have smitten me, [and] I am not sore; they have beaten me, [and] I knew it not. When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.”
