ಮತ್ತಾಯನು 23
1 ಯೇಸು ಜನಸಮೂಹಕ್ಕೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಶಿಷ್ಯರಿಗೂ
Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples:
2 ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದರೆ: “ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರೂ ಫರಿಸಾಯರೂ ಮೋಶೆಯ ಆಸನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
“The scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.
3 ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅನುಸರಿಸಿ ನಡೆಯಿರಿ. ಆದರೆ ಅವರ ನಡತೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನೀವು ನಡೆಯಬೇಡಿರಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
So practice and observe everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
4 ಹೊರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಭಾರವಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊರಲಾಗದ ಹೊರೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಜನರ ಹೆಗಲುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವರು ಹೊರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಾವಾದರೋ ತಮ್ಮ ಬೆರಳಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
They tie up heavy, burdensome loads and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
5 “ಆದರೆ ತಾವು ಮಾಡುವ ತಮ್ಮ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರು ನೋಡುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಬಾಹುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ದೇವರ ವಾಕ್ಯವುಳ್ಳ ಡಬ್ಬಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಹಣೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಗಲ ಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ಉಡುಪುಗಳ ಅಂಚುಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ದಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.
All their deeds are done for men to see. They broaden their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.
6 ಔತಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥಾನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಭಾಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯುನ್ನತ ಆಸನಗಳನ್ನೂ
They love the places of honor at banquets, the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆ ಬೀದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಂದನೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಜನರಿಂದ, ‘ಬೋಧಕರೇ,’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅವರು ಇಚ್ಛಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
the greetings in the marketplaces, and the title of ‘Rabbi’ by which they are addressed.
8 “ಆದರೆ ನೀವು, ‘ಬೋಧಕರು,’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡಿರಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಿಮಗಿರುವ ಬೋಧಕರು ಒಬ್ಬರೇ ನೀವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಸಹೋದರರು.
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.
9 ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ‘ತಂದೆ’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಬೇಡಿರಿ, ಪರಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವವರೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ.
And do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.
10 ಗುರುವೆಂದೂ ಕರೆಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡಿರಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಗುರುವು.
Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Christ.
11 ಆದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡವನಾಗಿರುವವನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸೇವಕನಾಗಿರಬೇಕು.
The greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಾವೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವರು ತಗ್ಗಿನ ಅನುಭವ ಹೊಂದುವರು. ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಾವೇ ತಗ್ಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವರು ಉನ್ನತ ಅನುಭವ ಹೊಂದುವರು.
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13 “ಆದರೆ ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ! ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀವು ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಮುಂದೆ ಪರಲೋಕ ರಾಜ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚುತ್ತೀರಿ. ನೀವೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುವವರನ್ನೂ ನೀವು ಒಳಗೆ ಬಿಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.
14 “ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀವು ವಿಧವೆಯರ ಮನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನುಂಗುತ್ತೀರಿ. ನಟನೆಗಾಗಿ ಉದ್ದವಾದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದ ದಂಡನೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುವಿರಿ.
15 “ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ! ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಮತಾಂತರ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನೀವು ಸಮುದ್ರವನ್ನೂ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನೂ ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಮತಾಂತರ ಮಾಡಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಿಮಗಿಂತಲೂ ಎರಡರಷ್ಟು ನರಕಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. (Geenna g1067)
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You traverse land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. (Geenna g1067)
16 “ಕುರುಡರಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಕರೇ! ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ, ‘ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅದು ಏನೂ ಅಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅವನು ಅದನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟುಬಿಡಬೇಕು,’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ.
Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’
17 ಮೂರ್ಖರೇ, ಕುರುಡರೇ, ಯಾವುದು ದೊಡ್ಡದು? ಚಿನ್ನವೋ ಚಿನ್ನವನ್ನು ಪಾವನ ಮಾಡುವ ದೇವಾಲಯವೋ?
You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes it sacred?
18 ‘ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಬಲಿಪೀಠದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅದು ಏನೂ ಅಲ್ಲವೆಂದೂ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾಣಿಕೆ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅವನು ಅದನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟುಬಿಡಬೇಕು,’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ.
And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’
19 ಕುರುಡರೇ, ಯಾವುದು ದೊಡ್ಡದು? ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯೋ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪಾವನ ಮಾಡುವ ಬಲಿಪೀಠವೋ?
You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes it sacred?
20 ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಬಲಿಪೀಠದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನು ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
So then, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
21 ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನು ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವ ದೇವರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the One who dwells in it.
22 ಪರಲೋಕದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನು ದೇವರ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಸೀನರಾದ ದೇವರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಡುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the One who sits on it.
23 “ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ! ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀವು ಪುದೀನ, ಸದಾಪು, ಜೀರಿಗೆಗಳ ದಶಮಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ನಿಯಮದ ನ್ಯಾಯನೀತಿ, ಕರುಣೆ, ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಎಂಬ ಈ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾದವುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಇವುಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆ ಬೇರೆಯವುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಡದೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗಿತ್ತು.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay tithes of mint, dill, and cumin. But you have disregarded the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
24 ಕುರುಡ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಕರಾದ ನೀವು ಸೊಳ್ಳೆ ಸೋಸುತ್ತೀರಿ ಒಂಟೆ ನುಂಗುತ್ತೀರಿ.
You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
25 “ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ! ನೀವು ಪಾತ್ರೆಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಟ್ಟೆಯ ಹೊರಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಶುಚಿಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ, ಆದರೆ ಅವು ಒಳಗೆ ಸುಲಿಗೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ದುರಾಶೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತವೆ.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
26 ಕುರುಡನಾದ ಫರಿಸಾಯನೇ, ಮೊದಲು ಪಾತ್ರೆಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಟ್ಟೆಯ ಒಳಗಿನ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಶುಚಿಮಾಡು. ಆಗ ಅವುಗಳ ಹೊರಭಾಗವೂ ಶುಚಿಯಾಗುವುದು.
Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, so that the outside may become clean as well.
27 “ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ! ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀವು ಸುಣ್ಣ ಹಚ್ಚಿದ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಅವು ಹೊರಗೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅಂದವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಒಳಗೆ ಸತ್ತವರ ಎಲುಬುಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅಶುದ್ಧತೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತವೆ.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of impurity.
28 ಅದರಂತೆಯೇ, ನೀವು ಸಹ ಹೊರಗಡೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಿಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತರಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ನೀವು ಒಳಗೆ ಕಪಟದಿಂದಲೂ ಅನ್ಯಾಯದಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿದವರಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
In the same way, on the outside you appear to be righteous, but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
29 “ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ! ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀವು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ನೀತಿವಂತರ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಲಂಕರಿಸುತ್ತೀರಿ.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous.
30 ಆದರೆ, ‘ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ರಕ್ತಪಾತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಿತೃಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪಾಲುಗಾರರಾಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಿ.
And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’
31 ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂದವರ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ ಎಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ನೀವೇ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
So you testify against yourselves that you are the sons of those who murdered the prophets.
32 ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳ ಅಪರಾಧದ ಅಳತೆಯನ್ನು ನೀವೇ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿರಿ.
Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your fathers.
You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape the sentence of hell? (Geenna g1067)
34 ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನೋಡಿರಿ, ನಾನು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಿಯಮ ಬೋಧಕರನ್ನೂ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವಿರಿ, ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೆ ಏರಿಸುವಿರಿ. ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಭಾಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊರಡೆಗಳಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಪಟ್ಟಣದಿಂದ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅಟ್ಟಿ ಹಿಂಸಿಸುವಿರಿ.
Because of this, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and others you will flog in your synagogues and persecute in town after town.
35 ಹೀಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತನಾದ ಹೇಬೆಲನ ರಕ್ತ ಮೊದಲುಗೊಂಡು ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೂ ಬಲಿಪೀಠಕ್ಕೂ ನಡುವೆ ನೀವು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿದ ಬರಕೀಯನ ಮಗ ಜಕರೀಯನ ರಕ್ತದವರೆಗೂ ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುರಿಸಲಾದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನೀತಿವಂತರ ರಕ್ತಾಪರಾಧವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರುವುದು.
And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
36 ನಿಮಗೆ ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ: ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಈ ಸಂತತಿಯವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರುವವು.
Truly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
37 “ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮೇ, ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮೇ, ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವವಳೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದವರನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಲೆಸೆಯುವವಳೇ, ಕೋಳಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಮರಿಗಳನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ರೆಕ್ಕೆಗಳ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಕೂಡಿಸುವಂತೆ ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನನಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಸಾರಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ನಿನಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಹೋಯಿತು.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!
38 ನೋಡಿರಿ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ನಿಮಗೆ ಬರಿದಾಗಿ ಹಾಳುಬೀಳುವುದು.
Look, your house is left to you desolate.
39 ಏಕೆಂದರೆ, ‘ಕರ್ತನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವವರು ಧನ್ಯರು’ ಎಂದು ನೀವು ಹೇಳುವ ಸಮಯವು ಬರುವ ತನಕ ನೀವು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ” ಎಂದರು.
For I tell you that you will not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
