ನ್ಯಾಯಸ್ಥಾಪಕರು 8
1 ಆಗ ಎಫ್ರಾಯೀಮ್ಯರು, “ನೀನು ಮಿದ್ಯಾನ್ಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವಾಗ, ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕರೆಯದೆ ಹೋದದ್ದೇನು?” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡ ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣವಾಗಿ ವಿವಾದ ಮಾಡಿದರು.
And the men of Ephraim said to him: What is this that thou meanest to do, that thou wouldst not call us when thou wentest to fight against Madian? and they chid him sharply and almost offered violence.
2 ಅವನು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ನೀವು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮಾನವಾಗಿ ನಾನೇನು ಮಾಡಿದೆನು? ಅಬೀಯೆಜೆರನ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಿ ಫಲ ಕೂಡಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಎಫ್ರಾಯೀಮನ ಉಳಿದ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುವುದು ಉತ್ತಮವಲ್ಲವೇ?
And he answered them: What could I have done like to that which you have done? Is not one bunch of grapes of Ephraim better than the vintages of Abiezer?
3 ದೇವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಿದ್ಯಾನ್ಯರ ಪ್ರಧಾನರಾದ ಓರೇಬನನ್ನೂ, ಜೇಬನನ್ನೂ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಡಲಿಲ್ಲವೇ? ನೀವು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಎಷ್ಟು?” ಎಂದನು. ಅವನು ಈ ಮಾತು ಹೇಳಿದಾಗ, ಅವನ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಅವರ ಕೋಪವು ಶಾಂತವಾಯಿತು.
The Lord hath delivered into your bands the princes of Madian, Oreb and Zeb: what could I have done like to what you have done? And when he had said this, their spirit was appeased, with which they swelled against him.
4 ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ಯೊರ್ದನಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅದನ್ನು ದಾಟಿ; ಅವನೂ, ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡ ಇದ್ದ ಮುನ್ನೂರು ಜನರೂ ದಣಿದವರಾಗಿಯೂ, ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವವರಾಗಿಯೂ ಇದ್ದರು.
And when Gedeon was come to the Jordan, he passed over it with the three hundred men, that were with him: who were so weary that they could not pursue after them that fled.
5 ಅವನು ಸುಕ್ಕೋತನವರಿಗೆ, “ದಯಮಾಡಿ ನನ್ನ ಕೂಡ ಇರುವ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಕೆಲವು ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಡಿರಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವರು ದಣಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಾನು ಮಿದ್ಯಾನ್ಯರ ಅರಸುಗಳಾದ ಜೆಬಹನನ್ನೂ, ಚಲ್ಮುನ್ನನನ್ನೂ ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುತ್ತೇನೆ,” ಎಂದನು.
And he said to the men of Soccoth: Give, I beseech you, bread to the people that is with me, for they are faint: that we may pursue Zebee, and Salmana the kings of Madian.
6 ಆದರೆ ಸುಕ್ಕೋತಿನ ಪ್ರಧಾನರು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ನಿನ್ನ ಸೈನ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಾವು ರೊಟ್ಟಿ ಕೊಡುವಂತೆ ಜೆಬಹ ಚಲ್ಮುನ್ನರ ಕೈ ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈವಶವಾಗಿದೆಯೋ?” ಎಂದರು.
The princes of Soccoth answered: Peradventure the palms of the hands of Zebee and Salmana are in thy hand, and therefore thou demandest that we should give bread to thy army.
7 ಆಗ ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು, “ಆಗ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಜೆಬಹನನ್ನೂ, ಚಲ್ಮುನ್ನನನ್ನೂ ನನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟ ತರುವಾಯ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಾಂಸವನ್ನು ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯ ಮುಳ್ಳುಗಳಿಂದಲೂ, ಕಾರೆಗಿಡದ ಮುಳ್ಳುಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಹೊಡಿಸುವೆನು,” ಎಂದನು.
And he said to them: When the Lord therefore shall have delivered Zebee and Salmana into my hands, I will thresh your flesh with the thorns and briers of the desert.
8 ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಪೆನೀಯೇಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, ಆ ಊರಿನವರ ಸಂಗಡ ಆ ಪ್ರಕಾರವೇ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದನು. ಅವರು ಸುಕ್ಕೋತಿನ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಉತ್ತರ ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಉತ್ತರಕೊಟ್ಟರು.
And going up from thence, he came to Phanuel: and he spoke the like things to the men of that place. And they also answered him, as the men of Soccoth had answered.
9 ಆಗ ಅವನು ಪೆನೀಯೇಲಿನ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಸಹ, “ನಾನು ಸಮಾಧಾನವಾಗಿ ತಿರುಗಿ ಬರುವಾಗ, ಈ ಗೋಪುರವನ್ನು ಕೆಡವಿಬಿಡುವೆನು,” ಎಂದನು.
He said therefore to them also: When I shall return a conqueror in peace, I will destroy this tower.
10 ಜೆಬಹನೂ, ಚಲ್ಮುನ್ನನೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಸೈನ್ಯದ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಹದಿನೈದು ಸಾವಿರ ಜನರ ಸಂಗಡ ಕರ್ಕೋರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದರು. ಇವರಷ್ಟೂ, ಖಡ್ಗ ಹಿಡಿಯತಕ್ಕ ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷದ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಸಾವಿರ ಜನ ಬಿದ್ದುಹೋದಾಗ, ಪೂರ್ವದೇಶದ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಜನರು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿದರು.
But Zebee and Salmana were resting with all their army. For fifteen thousand men were left of all the troops of the eastern people, and one hundred and twenty thousand warriors that drew the sword, were slain.
11 ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ನೋಬಹ, ಯೊಗ್ಬೆಹಾ ಇವುಗಳ ಪೂರ್ವದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಡೇರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ವಾಸಿಸಿರುವವರ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿ ಹೋಗಿ ಅವರು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಮೇಲೆ ದಾಳಿಮಾಡಿದರು.
And Gedeon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents, on the east of Nobe and Jegbaa, and smote the camp of the enemies, who were secure, and suspected no hurt.
12 ಜೆಬಹನೂ, ಚಲ್ಮುನ್ನನೂ ಓಡಿ ಹೋದದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಅವನು ಮಿದ್ಯಾನ್ಯರ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಅರಸುಗಳಾದ ಜೆಬಹನನ್ನೂ, ಚೆಲ್ಮುನ್ನನನ್ನೂ ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿ ಹಿಡಿದು ಪಾಳೆಯನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಚದರಿಸಿಬಿಟ್ಟರು.
And Zebee and Salmana fled, and Gedeon pursued and took them, all their host being put in confusion.
13 ಯೋವಾಷನ ಮಗನಾದ ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ಯುದ್ಧ ತೀರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೆರೆಸ್ ಎಂಬ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿ ತಿರುಗಿಬಂದು,
And returning from the battle before the sun rising,
14 ಸುಕ್ಕೋತಿನ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ಯೌವನಸ್ಥನನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಅವನು, ಸುಕ್ಕೋತಿನ ಪ್ರಧಾನರೂ, ಹಿರಿಯರೂ ಆದ ಎಪ್ಪತ್ತೇಳು ಜನರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಅವನು ಬರೆದನು.
He took a boy of the men of Soccoth: and he asked him the names of the princes and ancients of Soccoth, and he described unto him seventy-seven men.
15 ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ಸುಕ್ಕೋತಿನ ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದು, “ಇಗೋ, ದಣಿದಿರುವ ನಿನ್ನ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಿಗೆ ನಾವು ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವ ಹಾಗೆ, ಜೆಬಹ, ಚೆಲ್ಮುನ್ನರ ಕೈ ಈಗಲೇ ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈವಶವಾಗಿದೆಯೋ ಎಂದು ನೀವು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನಿಂದಿಸಿದ ಜೆಬಹನನ್ನೂ, ಚಲ್ಮುನ್ನನನ್ನೂ ನೋಡಿರಿ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ
And he came to Soccoth and said to them: Behold Zebee and Salmana, concerning whom you upbraided me, saying: Peradventure the hands of Zebee and Salmana, are in thy hands, and therefore thou demandest that we should give bread to the men that are weary and faint.
16 ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹಿರಿಯರನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಸುಕ್ಕೋತಿನವರನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು, ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯ ಮುಳ್ಳು ಹಾಗು ಕಾರೆಗಿಡದ ಮುಳ್ಳುಗಳಿಂದ ದಂಡಿಸಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪಾಠ ಕಲಿಸಿದನು.
So he took the ancients of the city and thorns and briers of the desert, and tore them with the same, and cut in pieces the men of Soccoth.
17 ಪೆನೀಯೇಲಿನ ಗೋಪುರವನ್ನು ಕೆಡವಿ, ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿದನು.
And he demolished the tower of Phanuel, and slew the men of the city.
18 ಅವನು ಜೆಬಹನಿಗೂ, ಚಲ್ಮುನ್ನನಿಗೂ, “ನೀವು ತಾಬೋರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿದ ಆ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಯಾವ ತರಹದವರಾಗಿದ್ದರು?” ಎಂದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕವರು, “ನಿನ್ನ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅವರು ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬರು ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಸನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಂತಿದ್ದರು,” ಎಂದರು.
And he said to Zebee and Salmana: What manner of men were they whom you slew in Thabor? They answered: They were like thee, and one of them as the son of a king.
19 ಅದಕ್ಕವನು, “ಅವರು ನನ್ನ ತಾಯಿಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳು, ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರು. ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರ ಜೀವದ ಆಣೆ ನೀವು ಅವರನ್ನು ಬದುಕಿಸಿದ್ದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ,” ಎಂದನು.
He answered them: They were my brethren, the sons of my mother. As the Lord liveth, if you had saved them, I would not kill you.
20 ತನ್ನ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲಮಗನಾದ ಎತೆರನಿಗೆ, “ನೀನೆದ್ದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕು,” ಎಂದನು. ಆದರೆ ಆ ಯುವಕನು ತನ್ನ ಖಡ್ಗವನ್ನು ಬಿಚ್ಚದೆ ಹೋದನು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಹುಡುಗನಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಭಯಪಟ್ಟನು.
And he said to Jether his eldest son: Arise, and slay them. But he drew not his sword: for he was afraid, being but yet a boy.
21 ಆಗ ಜೆಬಹನೂ, ಚಲ್ಮುನ್ನನೂ, “ನೀನು ಎದ್ದು ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೀಳು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಹೇಗೋ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅವನ ಬಲವು ಇರುವುದು,” ಎಂದರು. ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ಎದ್ದು ಜೆಬಹನನ್ನೂ, ಚೆಲ್ಮುನ್ನನನ್ನೂ ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿ, ಅವರ ಒಂಟೆಗಳ ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದ ಆಭರಣಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡನು.
And Zebee and Salmana said: Do thou rise, and run upon us: because the strength of a man is according to his age: Gedeon rose up and slew Zebee and Salmana: and he took the ornaments and bosses, with which the necks of the camels of kings are wont to be adorned.
22 ಆಗ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ ಜನರು ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನಿಗೆ, “ನೀನು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಮಿದ್ಯಾನರ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ, ನೀನೂ, ನಿನ್ನ ಪುತ್ರನೂ, ನಿನ್ನ ಪುತ್ರನ ಪುತ್ರನೂ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಳಬೇಕು,” ಎಂದರು.
And all the men of Israel said to Gedeon: Rule thou over us and thy son, and thy son’s son: because thou hast delivered us from the hand of Madian.
23 ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ನಾನು ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನನ್ನ ಮಗನೂ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರೇ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಳುವರು.”
And he said to them: I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you, but the Lord shall rule over you.
24 ಮತ್ತು ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ಒಂದು ಬಿನ್ನಹವನ್ನು ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನು ಕೊಳ್ಳೆಹೊಡೆದ ಬಂಗಾರದ ಓಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಕೊಡಿರಿ,” ಎಂದನು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಮಿದ್ಯಾನರು ಇಷ್ಮಾಯೇಲರಾಗಿದ್ದದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ಬಂಗಾರದ ಮುರುವುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
And he said to them: I desire one request of you: Give me the earlets of your spoils. For the Ismaelites were accustomed to wear golden earlets.
25 ಅವರು, “ನಾವು ಇಷ್ಟಪೂರ್ವಕವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇವೆ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ, ಒಂದು ವಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ಹಾಸಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರವರು ಕೊಳ್ಳೆಹೊಡೆದ ಬಂಗಾರದ ಓಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿದರು.
They answered: We will give them most willingly. And spreading a mantle on the ground, they cast upon it the earlets of the spoils.
26 ಆಭರಣಗಳೂ, ಕಂಠಮಾಲೆಗಳೂ, ಮಿದ್ಯಾನರ ಅರಸರು ಹೊದ್ದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ರಕ್ತಾಂಬರ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳೂ, ಅವರ ಒಂಟೆಗಳ ಕೊರಳೊಳಗೆ ಇದ್ದ ಸರಪಣಿಗಳೂ ಹೊರತು ಅವನು ಕೇಳಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಬಂಗಾರದ ಓಲೆಗಳ ತೂಕವು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಕಿಲೋಗ್ರಾಂ ತೂಕವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
And the weight of the earlets that he requested, was a thousand seven hundred sicles of gold, besides the ornaments, and jewels, and purple raiment which the kings of Madian were went to use, and besides the golden chains that were about the camels’ necks.
27 ಆ ಬಂಗಾರದಿಂದ ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ಏಫೋದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಸಿ, ಅದನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಊರಾದ ಒಫ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟನು. ಆದರೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಅದರ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಪೂಜಿಸಿ ದೇವದ್ರೋಹಿಗಳಾದರು, ಅದು ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನಿಗೂ ಅವನ ಮನೆಗೂ ಉರುಲಾಯಿತು.
And Gedeon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city Ephra. And all Israel committed fornication with it, and it became a ruin to Gedeon and to all his house.
28 ಮಿದ್ಯಾನ್ಯರು ತಮ್ಮ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ತಿರುಗಿ ಎತ್ತಕೂಡದ ಹಾಗೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರ ಮುಂದೆ ತಗ್ಗಿಹೋದರು. ದೇಶವು ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಲವತ್ತು ವರುಷ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಯಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು.
But Madian was humbled before the children of Israel, neither could they any more lift up their beads: but the land rested for forty years, while Gedeon presided.
29 ಯೋವಾಷನ ಮಗ ಯೆರುಬ್ಬಾಳನು ಹೋಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಂತ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದನು.
So Jerobaal the son of Joas went, and dwelt in his own house.
30 ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನಿಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ಮಂದಿ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯರಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದ ಅವನಿಂದ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಎಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಮಂದಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಇದ್ದರು.
And he had seventy sons, who came out of his thigh, for he had many wives.
31 ಶೆಖೆಮಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಅವನ ಉಪಪತ್ನಿಯು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮಗನನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತಳು. ಅವನು ಆ ಮಗನಿಗೆ ಅಬೀಮೆಲೆಕನೆಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟನು.
And his concubine, that he had in Sichem, bore him a son, whose name was Abimelech.
32 ಯೋವಾಷನ ಮಗನಾದ ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ವೃದ್ಧಾಪ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಣಹೊಂದಿದಾಗ, ಅವನನ್ನು ಅಬೀಯೆಜೆರೀಯರಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಒಫ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ಯೋವಾಷನ ಸಮಾಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೂಳಿಡಲಾಯಿತು.
And Gedeon the son of Joas died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father in Ephra of the family of Ezri.
33 ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನ ಮರಣದ ತರುವಾಯ, ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ದೇವದ್ರೋಹಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಬಾಳನ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಾಳ್ ಬೆರೀತನ್ನು ತಮಗೆ ದೇವರಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರು.
But after Gedeon was dead, the children of Israel turned again, and committed fornication with Baalim. And they made a covenant with Baal, that he should be their god:
34 ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಇದ್ದ ತಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಶತ್ರುಗಳ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಬಿಟ್ಟ ತಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಮರೆತುಬಿಟ್ಟರು.
And they remembered not the Lord their God, who delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies round about:
35 ಗಿದ್ಯೋನನೆಂಬ ಯೆರುಬ್ಬಾಳನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಸಕಲ ಉಪಕಾರಗಳಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಹಾಗೆ ದಯೆಯನ್ನು ಅವನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಮಾಡದೆ ಹೋದರು.
Neither did they shew mercy to the house of Jerobaal Gedeon, according to all the good things he had done to Israel.
