ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿ 7
1 ಅಮೂಲ್ಯವಾದ ಸುಗಂಧ ತೈಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಹೆಸರು ಉತ್ತಮ. ಒಬ್ಬನ ಜನ್ಮ ದಿನಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮರಣದ ದಿನವೇ ಮೇಲು.
A good name [is] better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
2 ಔತಣದ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ, ಶೋಕದ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು ಲೇಸು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಅಂತ್ಯವು ಸಾವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಜೀವಂತರು ಇದನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವರು.
[It is] better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that [is] the end of all men; and the living will lay [it] to his heart.
3 ನಗೆಗಿಂತ ದುಃಖವು ವಾಸಿ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಮುಖದಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಖ.
Sorrow [is] better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.
4 ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳ ಹೃದಯವು ಶೋಕದ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು, ಆದರೆ ಮೂಢರ ಹೃದಯವು ಉಲ್ಲಾಸದ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು.
The heart of the wise [is] in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools [is] in the house of mirth.
5 ಮೂಢರ ಹಾಡನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ, ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳ ಗದರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದು ಲೇಸು.
[It is] better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
6 ಗಡಿಗೆಯ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಉರಿಯುವ ಮುಳ್ಳುಕಡ್ಡಿ ಚಟಚಟನೆಯ ಶಬ್ದ ಹೇಗೋ, ಮೂಢನ ನಗುವು ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇರುವುದು. ಇದು ಕೂಡ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ.
For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so [is] the laughter of the fool: this also [is] vanity.
7 ದಬ್ಬಾಳಿಕೆ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯನ್ನು ಮೂರ್ಖನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಲಂಚವು ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ಕೆಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
8 ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಅದರ ಅಂತ್ಯವೇ ಲೇಸು. ಗರ್ವಿಷ್ಠನಿಗಿಂತ ತಾಳ್ಮೆಯುಳ್ಳವನೇ ಉತ್ತಮ.
Better [is] the end of a thing than its beginning: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit.
9 ನೀನು ಕೋಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆತುರಪಡದಿರು, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಕೋಪವು ಮೂಢರ ಎದೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
10 “ಹಿಂದಿನ ಕಾಲ ಈಗಿನ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮೇಲಾಗಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ ಏನು?” ಎಂದು ನೀನು ಕೇಳಬೇಡ. ಇದು ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತರು ಕೇಳುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯಲ್ಲ.
Say not thou, What is [the cause] that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
11 ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಆಸ್ತಿಯ ಹಾಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು; ಅದರಿಂದ ಜೀವಂತರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಲಾಭಕರ.
Wisdom [is] good with an inheritance: and [by it there is] profit to them that see the sun.
12 ಧನವು ಹೇಗೋ ಹಾಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಆಶ್ರಯ. ಆದರೆ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ ಏನೆಂದರೆ, ಅದು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗೆ ಜೀವದಾಯಕ.
For wisdom [is] a defense, [and] money [is] a defense: but the excellence of knowledge [is], [that] wisdom giveth life to them that have it.
13 ದೇವರ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸು: ದೇವರು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದನ್ನು, ಪುನಃ ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಲು ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯ?
Consider the work of God: for who can make [that] straight, which he hath made crooked?
14 ಸುಖ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂತೋಷವಾಗಿರು. ಆದರೆ ದುಃಖ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸು: ದೇವರು ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದರ ಮೇಲೊಂದನ್ನು ಬರಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹೀಗೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ತನ್ನ ಆಯುಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಕಳೆದ ಮೇಲೆ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗ್ರಹಿಸಲಾರನು.
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
15 ನನ್ನ ವ್ಯರ್ಥದ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇವೆರಡು ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ: ನೀತಿವಂತನು ತನ್ನ ನೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗತಿಸಿಹೋಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ದುಷ್ಟನು ತನ್ನ ದುಷ್ಟತನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಇಡೀ ಜೀವಮಾನವನ್ನು ಕಳೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ.
All [things] have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just [man] that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked [man] that prolongeth [his life] in his wickedness.
16 ನೀನು ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ನೀತಿವಂತನಾಗಿರಬೇಡ. ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡ. ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ನೀನೇ ಏಕೆ ನಾಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವೆ?
Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldst thou destroy thyself?
17 ನೀನು ದುಷ್ಟತನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗಬೇಡ, ಮೂರ್ಖತನದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಮುಂದುವರಿಯಬೇಡ. ನಿನ್ನ ಸಮಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ನೀನು ಏಕೆ ಸಾಯುವೆ?
Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldst thou die before thy time?
18 ನೀನು ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಗ್ರಹಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. ಹೌದು, ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮರೆಯಬೇಡ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಭಯಪಡುವವನು ಇವೆಲ್ಲವುಗಳಿಂದ ಪಾರಾಗುವನು.
[It is] good that thou shouldst take hold of this; yes, also from this withdraw not thy hand: for he that feareth God shall escape from them all.
19 ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹತ್ತು ಮಂದಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಸ್ಥಿರತೆಗಿಂತ, ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಸ್ಥಿರಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty [men] who are in the city.
20 ಪಾಪಮಾಡದೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದನ್ನೇ ನಡೆಸುವ ನೀತಿವಂತನು, ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಬ್ಬನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
For [there is] not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
21 ಜನರು ಆಡಿದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ನೀನು ಲಕ್ಷಿಸಬೇಡ, ನಿನ್ನ ಕೆಲಸದವರೂ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಶಪಿಸಬಹುದು.
Also take no heed to all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:
22 ನೀನು ಸಹ ಅನೇಕ ವೇಳೆ ಇತರರನ್ನು ಶಪಿಸಿದ್ದೀ, ಇದು ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ತಿಳಿದಿದೆ.
For often also thy own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.
23 ಇದೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ನಾನು ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ, “ನಾನು ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯಾಗಿರಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ,” ಎಂದುಕೊಂಡೆನು. ಆದರೆ ಅದು ನನ್ನಿಂದ ದೂರವಾಯಿತು.
All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it [was] far from me.
24 ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿರುವುದನ್ನೂ, ಅಗಾಧದಲ್ಲಿರುವುದನ್ನೂ ಯಾರು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಾರು?
That which is far off, and exceedingly deep, who can find it out?
25 ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮೂಲ ತತ್ವವನ್ನೂ, ದುಷ್ಟತನದ ಮೂಢತನವನ್ನೂ, ಮೂಢತ್ವದ ಹುಚ್ಚುತನವನ್ನೂ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಮನಸ್ಸುಮಾಡಿದೆನು.
I applied my heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason [of things], and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness [and] madness:
26 ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಹೆಂಗಸಿನ ಹೃದಯವು ಬೋನೂ ಬಲೆಯೂ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವಳ ಕೈ ಸಂಕೋಲೆ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಮರಣಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಕಠೋರವಾದದ್ದು ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ದೇವರನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವವನು, ಅವಳಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು. ಆದರೆ ಪಾಪಿಯು ಅವಳ ಕೈಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಬೀಳುವನು.
And I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart [is] snares and nets, [and] her hands [as] bands: whoever pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.
27 “ನೋಡು, ನಾನಿದನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿ ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ,” ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ: ನಾನು ಒಂದರ ನಂತರ ಮತ್ತೊಂದನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿ, ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದೆ;
Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, [counting] one by one, to find out the account:
28 ನಾನು ಹುಡುಕಿ ನೋಡಿದರೂ ನನಗೆ ಇದುವರೆಗೆ ಉತ್ತರ ಸಿಕ್ಕಲಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾನು ಸಾವಿರ ಪುರುಷರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸತ್ಯವಂತನನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆನು. ಆದರೆ ಸಾವಿರ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸತ್ಯವಂತಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ.
Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.
29 ಇದನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ನಾನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ: ದೇವರು ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ಸತ್ಯವಂತರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದರು. ಮನುಷ್ಯರಾದರೋ ಅನೇಕ ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
