ಧರ್ಮೋಪದೇಶಕಾಂಡ 2
1 ಆಗ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನನಗೆ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಮರುಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಹೊರಟು ಕೆಂಪುಸಮುದ್ರದ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ದಿನಗಳು ಸೇಯೀರ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮಲೆನಾಡನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆವು.
And we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as Jehovah had said unto me; and we went round mount Seir many days.
2 ಆಮೇಲೆ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನನಗೆ,
And Jehovah spoke to me, saying,
3 “ನೀವು ಈ ಬೆಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು ಸಾಕು. ಉತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿರಿ.
Ye have gone round this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
4 ನೀವು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಬೇಕಾದದ್ದೇನೆಂದರೆ, ‘ನೀವು ಸೇಯೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಮಾಡುವ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಹೋದರರಾದ ಏಸಾವನ ಪುತ್ರರ ಗಡಿಯನ್ನು ದಾಟಬೇಕು. ಅವರು ನಿಮಗೆ ಭಯಪಡುವರು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಬಹಳ ಜಾಗ್ರತೆಯಿಂದಿರಬೇಕು.
And command the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you; and ye shall be very guarded:
5 ಅವರನ್ನು ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಚೋದಿಸಬೇಡಿರಿ. ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಅವರ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾದವಿಡುವಷ್ಟು ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನಾದರೂ ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಸೇಯೀರ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ನಾನು ಏಸಾವನಿಗೆ ಸ್ವದೇಶವಾಗಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
attack them not; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot-breadth; for I have given mount Seir as a possession unto Esau.
6 ನೀವು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಉಣ್ಣುವ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಕುಡಿಯುವ ನೀರನ್ನು ಸಹ ಹಣಕೊಟ್ಟು ಕೊಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು.’”
Ye shall buy of them food for money, that ye may eat; and water shall ye also buy of them for money, that ye may drink;
7 ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೈಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಶೀರ್ವದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನೀವು ಈ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಚಾರ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದನ್ನು ದೇವರು ಗಮನಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ನಲವತ್ತು ವರ್ಷ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ಇದ್ದರು. ನಿಮಗೆ ಏನೂ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.
for Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee in all the work of thy hand. He hath known thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years hath Jehovah thy God been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
8 ಈ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನಾವು ಸೇಯೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಮಾಡುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಹೋದರರಾದ ಏಸಾವನ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಕಡೆಯಿಂದ ಓರೆಯಾಗಿ ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಂಡು ಅರಾಬಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಏಲತ್, ಎಚ್ಯೋನ್ ಗೆಬೆರ್ ಎಂಬ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಮಾಡಿ, ಮೋವಾಬಿನ ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿ ಹಾದು ಹೋದೆವು.
And we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, by the plain, by Elath, and by Ezion-geber, and we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
9 ಆಗ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನನಗೆ, “ಮೋವಾಬ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಕಿರುಕುಳ ನೀಡಬೇಡಿರಿ ಅಥವಾ ಅವರನ್ನು ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಚೋದಿಸಬೇಡಿರಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಾನು ಅವರ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನಗೆ ಸೊತ್ತನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾನು ಅದನ್ನು ಲೋಟನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಆರ್ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರದೇಶವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟೆನಲ್ಲವೇ?” ಎಂದರು.
And Jehovah said to me, Distress not the Moabites, neither engage with them in battle; for I will not give thee of their land a possession; for unto the children of Lot have I given Ar as a possession.
10 ಅದರೊಳಗೆ ಪೂರ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಏಮಿಯರು ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ಅನಾಕ್ಯರ ಹಾಗೆ ಬಲಿಷ್ಠರೂ ಬಹುಜನರೂ ಎತ್ತರವಾದವರೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು.
(The Emim dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall as the Anakim.
11 ಅವರು ಅನಾಕ್ಯರ ಹಾಗೆ ರೆಫಾಯರಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದವರೆಂದು ಹೇಳುವದುಂಟು. ಮೋವಾಬ್ಯರು ಅವರನ್ನು ಏಮಿಯರೆಂದು ಕರೆದರು.
They also are reckoned as giants like the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.
12 ಅದೇ ಪೂರ್ವಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋರಿಯರು ಸೇಯೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ತರುವಾಯ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ತಮಗೆ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಕೊಟ್ಟ ನಾಡನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಸ್ವಾಧೀನ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರೋ, ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಏಸಾವ್ಯರು ಬಂದು ಹೋರಿಯರನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿ, ಅವರ ನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಮಾಡಿದರು.
And in Seir dwelt the Horites in times past; and the children of Esau dispossessed them, and destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did to the land of their possession, which Jehovah gave to them.)
13 “ಈಗ ಎದ್ದು ಜೆರೆದ್ ಹಳ್ಳವನ್ನು ದಾಟಿರಿ,” ಎಂದು ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಹೇಳಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಾವು ಜೆರೆದ್ ಹಳ್ಳವನ್ನು ದಾಟಿದೆವು.
Now rise up, and pass over the torrent Zered. And we passed over the torrent Zered.
14 ನಾವು ಕಾದೇಶ್ ಬರ್ನೇಯವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟಂದಿನಿಂದ ಜೆರೆದ್ ಹಳ್ಳವನ್ನು ದಾಟಿದವರೆಗೆ ಗತಿಸಿದ ಕಾಲವು ಮೂವತ್ತೆಂಟು ವರ್ಷ. ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಅಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಸಂತತಿಯ ಸೈನಿಕರೆಲ್ಲರು ಸತ್ತುಹೋಗಿದ್ದರು.
Now the days in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we had come over the torrent Zered, were thirty-eight years; until the whole generation of the men of war was consumed from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah had sworn unto them.
15 ಪಾಳೆಯದಿಂದ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಹೊರಹಾಕುವವರೆಗೂ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರ ಹಸ್ತವು ಅವರ ಮೇಲಿತ್ತು.
Moreover the hand of Jehovah was against them to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.
16 ಉಳಿದ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವವರು ಜನರೊಳಗಿಂದ ಸತ್ತು ಹೋದ ಮೇಲೆ,
And it came to pass when all the men of war were consumed, having died off from among the people,
17 ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನನ್ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ ನನಗೆ,
that Jehovah spoke to me, saying,
18 “ಇಂದು ನೀನು ಮೋವಾಬಿನ ಮೇರೆಯಾದ ಆರ್ ಎಂಬ ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ದಾಟಬೇಕು.
Thou art to pass this day over the border of Moab, [which is] Ar,
19 ಅಮ್ಮೋನ್ಯರ ಹತ್ತಿರಕ್ಕೆ ನೀವು ಬಂದಾಗ, ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕಿರುಕುಳ ನೀಡಬೇಡಿರಿ ಅಥವಾ ಅವರನ್ನು ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಚೋದಿಸಬೇಡಿರಿ. ನಾನು ಆ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಲೋಟನ ವಂಶದವರಾದ ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರಿಗೆ ಸೊತ್ತಾಗಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿರುವದರಿಂದ ನಿಮಗೆ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಭಾಗವನ್ನೂ ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ” ಎಂದರು.
and come near over against the children of Ammon; thou shalt not distress them nor attack them; for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon a possession; for unto the children of Lot have I given it as a possession.
20 ಪೂರ್ವಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ರೆಫಾಯರು ಆ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದ ಅದು ಸಹ ರೆಫಾಯರ ದೇಶವೆನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಜಂಜುಮ್ಯರೆಂದು ಕರೆದರು.
(That also is reckoned a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in time past, and the Ammonites call them Zamzummim;
21 ಅವರು ಅನಾಕ್ಯರ ಹಾಗೆ ಬಲಿಷ್ಠರೂ ಬಹುಜನರೂ ಎತ್ತರವಾದವರೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಅವರನ್ನು ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರ ಮುಂದೆ ತೆಗೆದುಹಾಕಿದ್ದರು. ಹೀಗೆ ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರು ಅವರನ್ನು ಹೊರಡಿಸಿ, ಅವರ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ವಾಸಿಸಿದರು.
a people great, and many, and tall as the Anakim; and Jehovah destroyed them before them, and they dispossessed them, and dwelt in their stead;
22 ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಸೇಯೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿರುವ ಏಸಾವನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಹಾಗೆ ಆಯಿತು. ದೇವರು ಅವರ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋರಿಯರನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಹಾಕಿದರು. ಹೀಗೆ ಅವರು ಹೋರಿಯರನ್ನು ಹೊರಡಿಸಿ, ಇವರ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಇಂದಿನವರೆಗೂ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
as he did to the children of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, from before whom he destroyed the Horites; and they dispossessed them, and dwelt in their stead, even to this day.
23 ಹಾಗೆ ಗಾಜಾ ಪಟ್ಟಣದವರೆಗೂ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವ್ವೀಯರನ್ನು ಕಫ್ತೋರಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಕಫ್ತೋರ್ಯರು ನಾಶಮಾಡಿ, ಅವರ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ವಾಸಿಸಿದರು.
And the Avvites who dwelt in the hamlets as far as Gazah — the Caphtorim, who came out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)
24 “ಈಗ ಏಳಿರಿ, ಹೊರಡಿರಿ, ಅರ್ನೋನ್ ಹಳ್ಳವನ್ನು ದಾಟಿರಿ, ಇಗೋ, ಹೆಷ್ಬೋನಿನ ಅರಸ ಅಮೋರಿಯನಾದ ಸೀಹೋನನನ್ನೂ, ಅವನ ದೇಶವನ್ನೂ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಿ, ಆ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆರಂಭಮಾಡಿರಿ.
Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon. Behold, I have given into thy hand Sihon the king of Heshbon, the Amorite, and his land: begin, take possession, and engage with him in battle.
25 ಇದೇ ದಿವಸ ಆಕಾಶದ ಕೆಳಗಿರುವ ಜನಾಂಗಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹೆದರಿಕೆಯೂ ಮತ್ತು ಭಯವೂ ಉಂಟಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಅವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ನಡುಗಿ ಅಂಜುವರು,” ಎಂದರು.
This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the peoples under the whole heaven; who will hear report of thee, and will tremble, and quake because of thee.
26 ಆಗ ನಾನು ಕೆದೇಮೋತೆಂಬ ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯಿಂದ ಹೆಷ್ಬೋನಿನ ಅರಸನಾದ ಸೀಹೋನನಿಗೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನದ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುವಂತೆ ದೂತರನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿ,
And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon the king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
27 “ನಾವು ನಿನ್ನ ನಾಡನ್ನು ದಾಟಿಹೋಗುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಮಗೆ ಅಪ್ಪಣೆಯಾಗಬೇಕು. ನಾವು ಎಡಕ್ಕೂ ಬಲಕ್ಕೂ ತಿರುಗದೆ ರಾಜ ಮಾರ್ಗದಿಂದಲೇ ಹೋಗುವೆವು.
Let me pass through thy land: by the highway alone will I go; I will neither turn to the right hand nor to the left.
28 ನಾವು ಊಣ್ಣುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನೂ ಕುಡಿಯಲು ನೀರನ್ನು ಹಣಕೊಟ್ಟು ನಿಮ್ಮಿಂದ ಕೊಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಕಾಲ್ನಡಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ನಿಮ್ಮ ನಾಡನ್ನು ಹಾದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತೇವಷ್ಟೆ.
Thou shalt sell me food for money that I may eat; and thou shalt give me water for money that I may drink; I will only pass through on my feet,
29 ನಾವು ಯೊರ್ದನಿನ ಆಚೆಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನಮಗೆ ಕೊಡುವ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವವರಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಸೇಯೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಮಾಡುವ ಏಸಾವನ ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ಆರ್ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಮಾಡುವ ಮೋವಾಬ್ಯರೂ ನಮಗೆ ದಾರಿಕೊಟ್ಟಂತೆ ನೀವೂ ನಮಗೆ ಕೊಡಬೇಕು,” ಎಂದೆನು.
— as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me, — until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which Jehovah our God giveth us.
30 ಆದರೆ ಹೆಷ್ಬೋನಿನ ಅರಸನಾದ ಸೀಹೋನನು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಬಳಿಯಿಂದ ದಾಟಿಹೋಗಲು ಸಮ್ಮತಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಅವನ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಮಂಕುಮಾಡಿ, ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ಕಠಿಣಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಅದು ನೆರವೇರಿದೆ.
But Sihon the king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Jehovah thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obdurate, that he might give him into thy hand, as it is this day.
31 ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನನಗೆ, “ಸೀಹೋನನನ್ನೂ ಅವನ ದೇಶವನ್ನೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಮುಂದೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆರಂಭಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ, ಅವನ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸೊತ್ತಾಗಿ ಹೊಂದುವಂತೆ ವಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆರಂಭಮಾಡು,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
And Jehovah said to me, Behold, I begin to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin, take possession, that thou mayest possess his land.
32 ಆಗ ಸೀಹೋನನು ತನ್ನ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರ ಸಂಗಡ ನಮ್ಮೊಡನೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಹಚಗೆ ಹೊರಟುಬಂದನು.
And Sihon came out against us for battle, he and all his people, to Jahaz.
33 ನಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಅವನನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಅವನನ್ನೂ ಅವನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನೂ ಅವನ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಸೋಲಿಸಿದೆವು.
But Jehovah our God gave him up before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and his whole people.
34 ಆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಗಂಡಸರನ್ನೂ ಹೆಂಗಸರನ್ನೂ ಚಿಕ್ಕವರನ್ನೂ ನಿರ್ಮೂಲ ಮಾಡಿದೆವು. ಒಬ್ಬರನ್ನೂ ಉಳಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ.
And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every city, men, and women, and little ones: we let none escape.
35 ಪಶುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ನಮಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು, ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳನ್ನು ಸೂರೆಮಾಡಿದೆವು.
Only the cattle we took as booty for ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.
36 ಅರ್ನೋನಿನ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅರೋಯೇರ್ ಹಳ್ಳದ ಪಟ್ಟಣವು ಮೊದಲ್ಗೊಂಡು ಗಿಲ್ಯಾದಿನವರೆಗೂ ಒಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಣವಾದರೂ ನಮಗೆ ಅಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ನಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿದರು.
From Aroer, which is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the ravine even to Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: Jehovah our God delivered all before us.
37 ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರ ದೇಶದ ಯಬ್ಬೋಕ್ ನದಿಯ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನೂ ಪರ್ವತ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನೂ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರು ನಮಗೆ ಬೇಡವೆಂದ ಕಾರಣ, ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳನ್ನು ನೀವು ಅತಿಕ್ರಮಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ.
