ಅಪೊಸ್ತಲರ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳ 7
1 ಆಗ ಮಹಾಯಾಜಕನು, “ಈ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳು ನಿಜವೋ?” ಎಂದು ಸ್ತೆಫನನನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದನು.
Then the high priest asked, “Is this true?”
2 ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ತೆಫನನು, “ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ತಂದೆಗಳೇ, ನನ್ನ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡಿರಿ! ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ಹಾರಾನಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಮೆಸೊಪೊಟೇಮಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದನು. ಆಗ ಮಹಿಮೆಯ ದೇವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ ದರ್ಶನ ಕೊಟ್ಟು,
Stephen replied, “Brothers and fathers, hear what I have to say. God, who manifests himself in the glory, appeared to our ancestor Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, and before he settled in Haran, and said to him –
3 ‘ನಿನ್ನ ಸ್ವದೇಶವನ್ನು ಬಂಧುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು, ನಾನು ನಿನಗೆ ತೋರಿಸುವ ನಾಡಿಗೆ ಹೋಗು,’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
‘Leave your country and your people, and come into the country that I will show you.’
4 “ಅದರಂತೆ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ಕಸ್ದೀಯರ ನಾಡನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹಾರಾನಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದು ನೆಲೆಸಿದನು. ಅವನ ತಂದೆಯ ಮರಣದ ನಂತರ ನೀವು ಈಗ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಈ ನಾಡಿಗೆ ದೇವರು ಅವನನ್ನು ಬರಮಾಡಿದರು.
And so Abraham left the country of the Chaldaeans and settled in Haran; and from there, after his father’s death, God caused him to migrate into this country, in which you are now living.
5 ದೇವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲಿಡುವಷ್ಟು ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನಾಗಲಿ, ಯಾವುದೇ ಬಾಧ್ಯಸ್ತಿಕೆಯನ್ನಾಗಲಿ ಕೊಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನಿಗೆ ಆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ ಅವನೂ ಅವನ ನಂತರ ಅವನ ಸಂತತಿಯವರೂ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುವರೆಂದು ದೇವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ ವಾಗ್ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದರು.
God did not at that time give him any part of it, not even a foot of ground. But he promised to give him possession of it and his descendants after him, though at that time he had no child.
6 ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ದೇವರು ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ‘ನಿನ್ನ ಸಂತತಿಯವರು ತಮ್ಮದಲ್ಲದ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗಳಾಗಿರುವರು. ಅವರು ಗುಲಾಮರಾಗಿ ನಾಲ್ಕುನೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳವರೆಗೆ ದಬ್ಬಾಳಿಕೆಗೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗುವರು.
God’s words were these – ‘Abraham’s descendants will live in a foreign country, where they will be enslaved and ill-treated for four hundred years.
7 ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ಗುಲಾಮರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರಿಸುವೆನು. ಅನಂತರ ಅವರು ಹೊರಟುಬಂದು ಈ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಆರಾಧಿಸುವರು,’ ಎಂದು ದೇವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
But I myself will judge the nation, to which they will be enslaved,’ God said, ‘and after that they will leave the country and worship me in this place.’
8 ಆಮೇಲೆ ದೇವರು ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನಿಗೆ ಸುನ್ನತಿಯ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆಯನ್ನೂ ಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನಿಗೆ ಇಸಾಕನು ಜನಿಸಿದನು. ಇಸಾಕನು ಜನಿಸಿದ ಎಂಟನೆಯ ದಿನ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ಇಸಾಕನಿಗೆ ಸುನ್ನತಿ ಮಾಡಿಸಿದನು. ಅನಂತರ ಇಸಾಕನಿಗೆ ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಜನಿಸಿದನು. ಯಾಕೋಬನು ನಮ್ಮ ಹನ್ನೆರಡು ಮಂದಿ ಪಿತೃಗಳಿಗೆ ತಂದೆಯಾದನು.
Then God made with Abraham the covenant of circumcision; and under it Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him when he was eight days old; and Isaac became the father of Jacob; and Jacob of the Twelve Patriarchs.
9 “ಈ ಪಿತೃಗಳು ಯೋಸೇಫನ ಮೇಲೆ ಮತ್ಸರ ತಾಳಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನವರಿಗೆ ಗುಲಾಮನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾರಿದರು. ಆದರೆ ದೇವರು ಅವನೊಂದಿಗಿದ್ದು,
The Patriarchs, out of jealousy, sold Joseph into slavery in Egypt; but God was with him,
10 ಅವನನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಂಕಟಗಳಿಂದ ಬಿಡಿಸಿದರು. ದೇವರು ಯೋಸೇಫನಿಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನ ಅರಸನಾದ ಫರೋಹನ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರನಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಹೀಗೆ ಯೋಸೇಫನನ್ನು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟ್ ದೇಶದ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ತನ್ನ ಅರಮನೆಯ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ಫರೋಹನು ನೇಮಿಸಿದನು.
and delivered him out of all his troubles, and enabled him to win favor and show wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who appointed him Governor of Egypt and of his whole household.
11 “ಆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಜಿಪ್ಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾನಾನ್ ದೇಶಗಳ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಕ್ಷಾಮ ಬಂದು ಜನರು ಬಹಳ ಬಾಧೆಪಟ್ಟರು, ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳಿಗೆ ಆಹಾರ ದೊರೆಯದೇ ಹೋಯಿತು.
Then a famine spread over the whole of Egypt and Canaan, causing great distress, and our ancestors could find no food.
12 ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದವಸಧಾನ್ಯ ದೊರೆಯುವುದೆಂದು ಯಾಕೋಬನಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿದುಬಂದಾಗ, ಅವನು ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳನ್ನು ಮೊದಲನೆಯ ಸಾರಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು.
Hearing, however, that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob sent our ancestors there on their first visit.
13 ಅವರು ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾರಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ, ಯೋಸೇಫನು ತಾನು ಯಾರೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದನು. ಆಗ ಯೋಸೇಫನ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಫರೋಹನಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಾಯಿತು.
In the course of their second visit, Joseph revealed himself to his brothers, and his family became known to Pharaoh.
14 ಇದಾದನಂತರ, ಯೋಸೇಫನು ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ಯಾಕೋಬನನ್ನು ಅವನ ಕುಟುಂಬದವರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ, ಒಟ್ಟು ಎಪ್ಪತ್ತೈದು ಜನರನ್ನು ಕರೆಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು.
Then Joseph sent an urgent invitation to his father Jacob and to his relatives, seventy-five persons in all;
15 ಆಗ ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹೋದನು, ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಅವನೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳೂ ಮೃತರಾದರು.
and so Jacob went down into Egypt. There he died, and our ancestors also,
16 ಅವರ ಮೃತಶರೀರವನ್ನು ಶೇಕೆಮಿಗೆ ತಂದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹಮೋರನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಂದ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ಕ್ರಯಕೊಟ್ಟು ಕೊಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಸಮಾಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟರು.
and their bodies were removed to Shechem, and laid in the tomb which Abraham had bought for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.
17 “ದೇವರು ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ವಾಗ್ದಾನ ನೆರವೇರುವ ಕಾಲವು ಹತ್ತಿರ ಬಂದಾಗ, ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಜನರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಬಹಳ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಯಿತು.
As the time drew near for the fulfillment of the promise which God had made to Abraham, the people increased largely in numbers in Egypt,
18 ಆಗ, ‘ಯೋಸೇಫನನ್ನೇ ಅರಿಯದ ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬ ಅರಸನು, ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದನು.’
until a new king, who knew nothing of Joseph, came to the throne.
19 ಆ ಅರಸನು ನಮ್ಮ ಜನರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕುಯುಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ವರ್ತಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಅವರ ಕೂಸುಗಳು ಸಾಯುವಂತೆ ಬಿಸಾಡಿಬಿಡಬೇಕೆಂದು, ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳನ್ನು ಕಠಿಣವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂಸಿಸಿದನು.
This king acted deceitfully towards our people and ill-treated our ancestors, making them abandon their own infants, so that they should not be reared.
20 “ಆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಮೋಶೆ ಜನಿಸಿದನು. ಅವನು ದೇವರ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಂದರನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ಮೂರು ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಬೆಳೆದನು.
It was just at this time that Moses was born. He was an exceedingly beautiful child, and for three months was brought up in his own father’s house;
21 ಆಮೇಲೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ಮನೆಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಹಾಕಿದಾಗ, ಫರೋಹನ ಮಗಳು ಅವನನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಂತ ಮಗನಂತೆ ಬೆಳೆಸಿದಳು.
and, when he was abandoned, the daughter of Pharaoh found him and brought him up as her own son.
22 ಮೋಶೆಯು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನವರ ಸಕಲ ವಿದ್ಯೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ಹೊಂದಿ, ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಕೃತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸಮರ್ಥನಾದನು.
So Moses was educated in all the learning of the Egyptians, and proved his ability both by his words and actions.
23 “ಮೋಶೆ ನಲವತ್ತು ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ, ತನ್ನ ಬಂಧುಗಳಾದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ ಪುತ್ರರನ್ನು ಸಂದರ್ಶಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಿದನು.
When he was in his fortieth year, he resolved to visit his fellow Israelites;
24 ತನ್ನ ಬಂಧುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನವನೊಬ್ಬನು ಹೊಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು, ಮೋಶೆ ಆ ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನವನನ್ನು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿ ಸೇಡು ತೀರಿಸಿದನು.
and, seeing an Israelite ill-treated, he defended him, and avenged the man, who was being wronged, by striking down the Egyptian.
25 ದೇವರು ಸ್ವಜನರಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಮೂಲಕವಾಗಿ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವನೆಂದು ಅವರು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವರೆಂದು ಮೋಶೆ ಭಾವಿಸಿದ್ದನು. ಸ್ವಜನರೋ, ಇದನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ.
He thought his own people would understand that God was using him to save them; but they failed to do so.
26 ಮರುದಿನ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ಜಗಳವಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಮೋಶೆ ಕಂಡು, ‘ಗೆಳೆಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಸಹೋದರರಲ್ಲವೇ; ಒಬ್ಬರಿಗೊಬ್ಬರು ಏಕೆ ಜಗಳಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀರಿ?’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಮಾಧಾನಪಡಿಸಲು ಯತ್ನಿಸಿದನು.
The next day he again appeared on the scene, when some of them were fighting, and tried to make peace between them. ‘Men,’ he said, ‘you are brothers; how is it that you are ill-treating one another?’
27 “ಆದರೆ ಹೊಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದವನು ಮೋಶೆಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಕ್ಕೆ ತಳ್ಳಿ, ‘ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಧೀಶನನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ನೇಮಿಸಿದವರು ಯಾರು?
But the man who was ill-treating his fellow workman pushed Moses aside saying – ‘Who made you a ruler and judge over us?
28 ನಿನ್ನೆ ಆ ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನವನನ್ನು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿದಂತೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನೂ ಕೊಲ್ಲಬೇಕೆಂದಿರುವೆಯಾ?’ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದನು.
Do you mean to make away with me as you did yesterday with that Egyptian?’
29 ಮೋಶೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ, ಮಿದ್ಯಾನಿಗೆ ಓಡಿಹೋದನು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಪರದೇಶದವನಂತೆ ಬದುಕಿ, ಇಬ್ಬರು ಗಂಡು ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದನು.
At these words Moses took to flight, and became an exile in Midian; and there he had two sons born to him.
30 “ನಲವತ್ತು ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಗತಿಸಿದ ತರುವಾಯ ಸೀನಾಯಿ ಪರ್ವತದ ಮರುಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉರಿಯುವ ಪೊದೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವದೂತನೊಬ್ಬನು ಮೋಶೆಗೆ ದರ್ಶನ ಕೊಟ್ಟನು.
Forty years had passed when there appeared to him, in the desert of Mount Sinai, an angel in a flame of fire in a bush.
31 ಇದನ್ನು ಮೋಶೆ ಕಂಡಾಗ ಆ ನೋಟಕ್ಕೆ ಅತ್ಯಾಶ್ಚರ್ಯಪಟ್ಟನು. ಅದನ್ನು ಸಮೀಪದಿಂದ ನೋಡಲು ಹೊರಟಾಗ, ಕರ್ತದೇವರ ಧ್ವನಿಯನ್ನು ಅವನು ಕೇಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡನು.
When Moses saw it, he was astonished at the vision; but on his going nearer to look at it more closely, the voice of the Lord was heard to say –
32 ‘ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಪಿತೃಗಳ ದೇವರು, ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನ, ಇಸಾಕನ, ಯಾಕೋಬನ ದೇವರು,’ ಎಂಬ ವಾಣಿಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಮೋಶೆ ಭಯದಿಂದ ನಡುಗುತ್ತಾ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲು ಧೈರ್ಯಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ.
‘I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ Moses trembled, and did not dare to look.
33 “ಆಗ ಕರ್ತದೇವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ, ‘ನಿನ್ನ ಪಾದರಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದಿಡು. ನೀನು ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಸ್ಥಳ ಪರಿಶುದ್ಧ ಭೂಮಿ.
Then the Lord said to him – ‘Take your sandals off your feet, for the spot where you are standing is holy ground.
34 ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಜನರ ದುರವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ನಾನು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಅವರ ನರಳಾಟವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಲು ನಾನಿಳಿದು ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾ, ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ,’ ಎಂದರು.
I have seen the oppression of my people who are in Egypt, and heard their groans, and I have come down to deliver them. Come now and I will send you into Egypt.’
35 “‘ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಧೀಶನನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ನೇಮಿಸಿದವರು ಯಾರು?’ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತುಗಳಿಂದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸಿದಂಥ ಆ ಮೋಶೆಯೇ ಇವನು. ಉರಿಯುವ ಪೊದೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದರ್ಶನ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ದೇವದೂತನ ಮುಖಾಂತರವಾಗಿ ದೇವರೇ ಇವನನ್ನು ಅವರ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ವಿಮೋಚಕನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದರು.
This same Moses, whom they had disowned with the words – ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ was the man whom God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer, under the guidance of the angel that had appeared to him in the bush.
36 ಈ ಮೋಶೆಯೇ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರನ್ನು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದನು. ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಕೆಂಪುಸಮುದ್ರದ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದ್ಭುತಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಸೂಚಕಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ನಲವತ್ತು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನಡೆಸಿದನು.
He it was who led them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in Egypt, in the Red Sea, and in the desert during forty years.
37 “‘ನನ್ನಂಥ ಒಬ್ಬ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಯನ್ನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವಂತ ಜನರೊಳಗಿಂದಲೇ ದೇವರು ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸುವರು,’ ಎಂದು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದವನು ಈ ಮೋಶೆಯೇ.
This was the Moses who said to the people of Israel – ‘God will raise up for you, from among yourselves, a prophet, as he raised up me.’
38 ಇವನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡಗುಂಪಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಅವರ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವನು. ಸೀನಾಯಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ದೇವದೂತನೊಂದಿಗಿದ್ದವನು. ಇವನು ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳೊಂದಿಗೂ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥನಾಗಿ ಇದ್ದವನು. ನಮಗೆ ಕೊಡುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಜೀವ ವಾಕ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿದವನು ಈ ಮೋಶೆಯೇ.
He, too, it was who was present at the assembly in the desert, with the angel who talked to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors, and who received living truths to impart to you.
39 “ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳು ಅವನಿಗೆ ವಿಧೇಯರಾಗಲು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಅವನನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈಜಿಪ್ಟ್ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಹೋಗಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದರು.
Yet our ancestors refused him obedience; more than that, they rejected him, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt,
40 ಅವರು ಆರೋನನಿಗೆ, ‘ನಮಗೆ ಮುಂದಾಗಿ ಹೋಗುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಮಗೆ ದೇವರುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡು, ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಈಜಿಪ್ಟ್ ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದ ಆ ಮೋಶೆಗೆ ಏನಾಯಿತೋ ತಿಳಿಯದು,’ ಎಂದರು.
while they said to Aaron – ‘Make us Gods who will lead the way for us, since, as for this Moses who has brought us out of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’
41 ಆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಕರುವಿನ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ವಿಗ್ರಹ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಅದರ ಮುಂದೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಬಲಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟು, ತಮ್ಮ ಕೈಕೃತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹರ್ಷಗೊಂಡರು.
That was the time when they made the calf and offered sacrifice to their idol, and held festivities in honor of their own handiwork!
42 ಆದರೆ ದೇವರು ಅವರಿಗೆ ವಿಮುಖನಾಗಿ, ಆಕಾಶದ ಗ್ರಹಗಳನ್ನೇ ಆರಾಧಿಸುವಂತೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಇದರ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಗ್ರಂಥದಲ್ಲಿ: “‘ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ಮನೆತನದವರೇ, ನಲವತ್ತು ವರ್ಷ ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಜ್ಞಗಳನ್ನೂ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದು ನನಗಲ್ಲ.
So God turned from them and left them to the worship of the Starry Host, as is written in the book of the prophets – ‘Did you offer victims and sacrifices to me, house of Israel, all those forty years in the desert?
43 ಮೊಲೋಖನ ಗುಡಾರವನ್ನೂ ರೊಂಫಾ ದೇವತೆಯ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರವನ್ನೂ ನೀವು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ವಿಗ್ರಹಗಳನ್ನೂ ಪೂಜಿಸಿದಿರಿ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಬಾಬಿಲೋನಿನ ಆಚೆ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಸೆರೆಯಾಳುಗಳಾಗಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸುವೆ,’ ಎಂದು ಬರೆದಿರುವ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಇದು ನೆರವೇರಿತು.
You took with you the tent where Moloch is worshiped and the star of the god Rephan – the images which you had made to worship. Therefore I will exile you beyond Babylon.’
44 “ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವದರ್ಶನ ಗುಡಾರ ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇತ್ತು. ದೇವರು ಮೋಶೆಗೆ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದಂತೆ, ಅವನಿಗೆ ತೋರಿಸಿದ ಮಾದರಿಯಂತೆ ಅದನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.
Our ancestors had the tent where they worshiped God in the desert, constructed, just as he who spoke to Moses had directed him to make it, after the model which he had seen.
45 ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳು ದೇವದರ್ಶನ ಗುಡಾರವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು, ಯೆಹೋಶುವನ ನಾಯಕತ್ವದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ದೇವರು ಅವರೆದುರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊರದೊಬ್ಬಿದ ದೇಶಗಳ ನಾಡನ್ನು ವಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಾಗ ಅದನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದರು. ದಾವೀದನ ಕಾಲದವರೆಗೂ ಆ ಗುಡಾರವು ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇತ್ತು.
This tent, which was handed down to them, was brought into this country by our ancestors who accompanied Joshua (at the conquest of the nations that God drove out before their advance), and remained here until the time of David.
46 ದಾವೀದನು ದೇವರ ದಯೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದವನಾಗಿ ಯಾಕೋಬನ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಕಟ್ಟಲು ತನಗೆ ಅಪ್ಪಣೆಯಾಗಬೇಕೆಂದು ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಕೇಳಿಕೊಂಡನು.
David found favor with God, and prayed that he might provide the God of Jacob with a place to reside.
47 ಆದರೆ ದೇವರಿಗಾಗಿ ಆಲಯವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದವನು ಸೊಲೊಮೋನನು.
But it was Solomon who built a house for God.
48 “ಹೀಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಮಹೋನ್ನತ ದೇವರು ಮಾನವರು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ ಆಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರವಾದಿಯು ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ:
Yet it is not in buildings made by hands that the Most High dwells. As the prophet says –
49 “‘ಆಕಾಶವೇ ನನ್ನ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನ, ಭೂಮಿಯೇ ನನ್ನ ಪಾದ ಪೀಠ. ನೀವು ನನಗಾಗಿ ಎಂಥಾ ಆಲಯವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುವಿರಿ? ಎಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಯ ಸ್ಥಳ?
‘The heavens are a throne for me, and the earth a stool for my feet. What manner of house will you build me, asks the Lord, or what place is there where I may rest?
50 ಇವುಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ್ದು ನನ್ನ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಅಲ್ಲವೇ?’ ಎಂದು ಕರ್ತದೇವರು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
Was it not my hand that made all these things?’
51 “ಹಟಮಾರಿಗಳೇ! ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಕಿವಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸುನ್ನತಿ ಹೊಂದದವರೇ, ನೀವು ಸಹ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳಂತೆಯೇ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತೀರಿ!
Stubborn people, heathen in heart and ears, you are for ever resisting the Holy Spirit; your ancestors did it, and you are doing it still.
52 ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳು ಹಿಂಸೆಪಡಿಸದೆ ಇದ್ದ ಪ್ರವಾದಿ ಒಬ್ಬನಾದರೂ ಇರುವನೇ? ನೀತಿವಂತರಾಗಿರುವ ಒಬ್ಬರು ಬರಲಿದ್ದಾರೆಂದು ಮುಂತಿಳಿಸಿದವರನ್ನು ಸಹ ಅವರು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿದರು. ಈಗ ನೀವೇ ಅವರನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಟ್ಟು ಕೊಲೆಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
Which of the prophets escaped persecution at their hands? They killed those who foretold the coming of the righteous one; of whom you, in your turn, have now become the betrayers and murderers –
53 ದೇವದೂತರ ಮುಖಾಂತರವಾಗಿ ಜಾರಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ಮೋಶೆಯ ನಿಯಮವನ್ನು ನೀವು ಹೊಂದಿದವರಾದರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು.
you who received the Law as transmitted by angels and yet failed to keep it.”
54 ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಅವರು ರೋಷವುಳ್ಳವರಾಗಿ, ಅವನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ನೋಡಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ಹಲ್ಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿದರು.
As they listened to this, the Council grew frantic with rage, and gnashed their teeth at Stephen.
55 ಆದರೆ ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮಭರಿತನಾದ ಸ್ತೆಫನನು ಪರಲೋಕದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ನೋಡಿ, ದೇವರ ಮಹಿಮೆಯನ್ನೂ ದೇವರ ಬಲಗಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯೇಸು ನಿಂತುಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದನ್ನೂ ಕಂಡನು.
He, filled as he was with the Holy Spirit, fixed his eyes intently on the heavens, and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at God’s right hand.
56 “ನೋಡಿರಿ, ಪರಲೋಕ ತೆರೆದಿರುವುದನ್ನೂ ಮನುಷ್ಯಪುತ್ರ ಆಗಿರುವ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ ಯೇಸು ದೇವರ ಬಲಗಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತಿರುವುದನ್ನೂ ನಾನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ,” ಎಂದನು.
“Look,” he exclaimed, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at God’s right hand!”
57 ಈ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕಿವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡು, ಆರ್ಭಟಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಅವನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಓಡಿಹೋಗಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದರು.
At this, with a loud shout, they stopped their ears and all rushed on him, forced him outside the city,
58 ಅವನನ್ನು ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಎಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಿ ಅವನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಲ್ಲೆಸೆಯಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸೌಲ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಒಬ್ಬ ಯುವಕನ ಪಾದಗಳ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರು.
and began to stone him, the witnesses laying their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59 ನ್ಯಾಯಸಭೆಯವರು ಕಲ್ಲೆಸೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಸ್ತೆಫನನು, “ಕರ್ತ ಯೇಸುವೇ, ನನ್ನ ಆತ್ಮವನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿರಿ,” ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದನು.
And they stoned Stephen, while he cried to the Lord, “Lord Jesus! Receive my spirit!”
60 ಅನಂತರ ಮೊಣಕಾಲೂರಿ, “ಕರ್ತ ಯೇಸುವೇ, ಈ ಪಾಪವನ್ನು ಅವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರಿಸಬೇಡ,” ಎಂದು ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೂಗಿದನು. ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದ ಮೇಲೆ, ಪ್ರಾಣಬಿಟ್ಟನು.
Falling on his knees, he called out loudly, “Lord! Do not charge them with this sin;” and with these words he fell asleep.
