ಅಪೊಸ್ತಲರ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳ 22
1 “ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ತಂದೆಗಳೇ, ಈಗ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಪ್ರತಿವಾದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡಿರಿ,” ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದನು.
Brethren and fathers! Hear ye, the defence, which I now make unto you: —
2 ಅವನು ತಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೀಬ್ರೂ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಅವರು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ನಿಶ್ಶಬ್ದರಾದರು. ಆಗ ಪೌಲನು:
And, when they heard that, in the Hebrew language, he had begun to address them, they kept the more quiet. And he saith—
3 “ನಾನು ಕಿಲಿಕ್ಯದ ತಾರ್ಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯನು, ಈ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಬೆಳೆದವನು, ಗಮಲಿಯೇಲನ ಪಾದ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳ ನಿಯಮವನ್ನು ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಾಗಿ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ದೇವರ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಇಂದು ನೀವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಇರುವಂತೆಯೇ ನಾನೂ ಆಸಕ್ತಿವುಳ್ಳವನಾಗಿದ್ದೆನು.
I, am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but nurtured in this city, at the feet of Gamaliel, —trained after the strictness of our ancestral law; being jealous for God just as, all ye, are this day;
4 ಈ ಮಾರ್ಗದವರನ್ನು ಸಾಯುವಷ್ಟು ಹಿಂಸಿಸಿದೆನು. ಸ್ತ್ರೀಪುರುಷರೆನ್ನದೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸೆರೆಮನೆಗೆ ಹಾಕಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆನು,
and, this way, I persecuted unto the death, binding and delivering up into prisons both men and women: —
5 ಮಹಾಯಾಜಕನೂ ಹಿರಿಸಭೆಯವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ. ಅವರಿಂದಲೇ ದಮಸ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಸಹೋದರರಿಗೆ ಪತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು, ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದವರನ್ನೂ ದಂಡಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೂ ಸೆರೆಹಿಡಿದು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿಗೆ ತರುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೂ ದಮಸ್ಕಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಮಾಡಿದೆನು.
as, even the High-priest, beareth me witness, and all the Eldership, —from whom, letters also, accepting to the brethren, unto Damascus, was I journeying, to bring them who were there bound unto Jerusalem, that they might be punished.
6 “ಸುಮಾರು ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನದ ಸಮಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ದಮಸ್ಕದ ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೆನು. ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಆಕಾಶದಿಂದ ಮಹಾ ಬೆಳಕು ನನ್ನ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಹೊಳೆಯಿತು.
But it befell me, as I was journeying and drawing nigh unto Damascus, that, about mid-day—suddenly—out of heaven, there flashed a great light all around me;
7 ನಾನು ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಿದ್ದೆನು. ಆಗ, ‘ಸೌಲನೇ, ಸೌಲನೇ, ಏಕೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹಿಂಸೆಪಡಿಸುತ್ತೀ?’ ಎಂದು ಒಂದು ಸ್ವರವು ನನಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡೆನು.
I fell also to the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me—Saul! Saul! Why, me, art thou persecuting?
8 “ನಾನು, ‘ಸ್ವಾಮಿ, ತಾವು ಯಾರು?’ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಲು, “‘ನೀನು ಹಿಂಸೆಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ನಜರೇತಿನ ಯೇಸುವೇ ನಾನು,’ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ನನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
And, I, answered—Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me—I, am Jesus the Nazarene, whom, thou, art persecuting!
9 ನನ್ನ ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವರು ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು ಕಂಡರು. ಆದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಕೂಡ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸ್ವರವು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕೇಳಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ.
Now, they who were with me, beheld, indeed, the light, but heard not, the voice, of him that was speaking with me
10 “ಆಗ ನಾನು, ‘ಸ್ವಾಮಿ, ನಾನೇನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕು?’ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಲು, “‘ಎದ್ದೇಳು, ದಮಸ್ಕದೊಳಗೆ ಹೋಗು, ನೀನು ಏನೇನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆಯೋ ಅದೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ನಿನಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಲಾಗುವುದು,’ ಎಂದು ಕರ್ತ ಯೇಸು ನನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
And said—What shall I do, Lord? And, the Lord, said unto me—Arise, and be going thy way into Damascus, and, there, shall it be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.
11 ಆ ಬೆಳಕಿನ ಉಜ್ವಲ ಪ್ರಕಾಶದ ನಿಮಿತ್ತ ನನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣು ಕುರುಡಾಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವರು ನನ್ನ ಕೈಹಿಡಿದು ದಮಸ್ಕದೊಳಗೆ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದರು.
But, as I could not see clearly owing to the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them who were with me, I came into Damascus.
12 “ಅನನೀಯ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನವನೊಬ್ಬನು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಬಂದನು. ಅವನು ಮೋಶೆಯ ನಿಯಮಕ್ಕನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಭಕ್ತಿವಂತನೂ ಆ ಸ್ಥಳದ ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರೆಲ್ಲರಿಂದ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಹೊಂದಿದವನೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದನು.
And, one Ananias, a man devout according to the law, well-attested by all the Jews that dwelt there,
13 ಅವನು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ನಿಂತುಕೊಂಡು, ‘ಸಹೋದರ ಸೌಲನೇ, ನೀನು ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೋ,’ ಎಂದನು. ಆ ಗಳಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ನಾನು ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆನು.
coming unto me, and standing over me, said—Saul, brother! look up. And, I, in that very hour, looked up on him.
14 “ಆಗ ಅವನು, ‘ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃಗಳ ದೇವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ತವನ್ನು ನೀನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೂ ನೀತಿವಂತ ಆಗಿರುವ ಒಬ್ಬರನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೂ ಅವರ ಬಾಯಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಮಾತನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೂ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಮುಂದಾಗಿಯೇ ನೇಮಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
And he said—The God of our fathers, hath chosen thee to get to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, —and to hear a voice out of his mouth.
15 ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀನು ಕಂಡದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಅವರ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿರುವೆ.
Because thou shalt be a witness to him unto all men, of the things which thou hast seen and heard.
16 ಈಗ ನೀನು ತಡಮಾಡುವುದೇಕೆ? ಎದ್ದೇಳು, ಅವರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕರೆದು, ದೀಕ್ಷಾಸ್ನಾನವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಪಾಪಗಳನ್ನು ತೊಳೆದುಕೋ,’ ಎಂದನು.
And, now, what art thou going to do? Arise, and get thyself immersed, and have thy sins bathed away, calling upon his name.
17 “ನಾನು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿಗೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಬಂದು ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ಆತ್ಮಪರವಶನಾದೆನು.
And it came to pass, when had returned unto Jerusalem, and was praying in the temple, that I came to be in a trance,
18 ಆಗ ಕರ್ತ ಯೇಸು ನನ್ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆನು. ಅವರು, ‘ತಡಮಾಡದೆ! ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೊರಟು ಹೋಗು, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀನು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಹೇಳುವ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯನ್ನು ಅವರು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ,’ ಎಂದರು.
and saw him, saying unto me—Haste thee, and go forth speedily out of Jerusalem, inasmuch as they will not accept thy witness concerning me.
19 “ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು, ‘ಸ್ವಾಮಿ, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಭಾಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿಟ್ಟವರನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಿ, ಹೊಡೆದು ಸೆರೆಮನೆಗೆ ಹಾಕಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದು ಈ ಜನರು ಬಲ್ಲರು.
And, I, said—Lord! they themselves, well know that I was imprisoning and beating in every synagogue them who were believing on thee.
20 ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾದ ಸ್ತೆಫನನ ರಕ್ತ ಸುರಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನೂ ಸಮ್ಮತಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವವರ ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಾ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದೆನು,’ ಎಂದೆನು.
And, when the blood of Stephen thy witness was being shed, even I myself, was standing by, and approving, and guarding the mantles of them who were slaying him.
21 “ಆಗ ಕರ್ತ ಯೇಸುವು, ‘ಹೋಗು, ನಾನು ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರಲ್ಲದವರ ಬಳಿಗೆ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ದೂರಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸುವೆನು,’ ಎಂದು ನನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು.”
And he said unto me—Be taking thy journey; because, I, unto nations afar off, will send thee.
22 ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವವರೆಗೆ ಜನರು ಪೌಲನ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಗಮನವಿಟ್ಟು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅನಂತರ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವರವೆತ್ತಿ, “ಇಂಥವನನ್ನು ಭೂಲೋಕದಿಂದ ತೊಲಗಿಸಿರಿ! ಇವನು ಜೀವಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯನಲ್ಲ!” ಎಂದು ಕೂಗಿದರು.
And they hearkened unto him as far as this word, and lifted up their voice, saying—Away from the earth, with such a man as this, for it is not fit that he should live.
23 ಅವರು ಅರಚುತ್ತ ತಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲಂಗಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹರಿಯುತ್ತ ಗಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಣ್ಣು ತೂರುತ್ತಿರಲು,
Now, as they were both making an outcry and tearing their mantles, —dust, also were throwing into the air,
24 ಸಹಸ್ರಾಧಿಪತಿಯು ಪೌಲನನ್ನು ಸೈನಿಕರ ಪಾಳ್ಯದೊಳಗೆ ಒಯ್ಯಬೇಕೆಂದು, ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೊರಡೆಗಳಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆದು ಯಾವ ಅಪರಾಧಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಜನರು ಅವನಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಅರಚುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅವನಿಂದ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದನು.
the captain ordered him to be brought into the castle, saying, that, with scourging, he should be put to the test, —that he might find out, for what cause they were, thus, clamouring against him.
25 ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ಅವನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾರುಕೋಲನ್ನು ಚಾಚಿದಾಗ ಪೌಲನು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದ ಶತಾಧಿಪತಿಗೆ, “ಅಪರಾಧಿಯೆಂದು ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗುವ ಮೊದಲೇ ರೋಮ್ ಪೌರನನ್ನು ಕೊರಡೆಗಳಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆಯುವುದು ನ್ಯಾಯವಾದದ್ದೋ?” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದನು.
But, when they had stretched him out with straps, Paul said unto the by-standing centurion—A Roman, and uncondemned, is it allowed you to be scourging?
26 ಶತಾಧಿಪತಿ ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ, ಸಹಸ್ರಾಧಿಪತಿಯ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಇದನ್ನು ವರದಿ ಮಾಡಿ, “ಇವನು ರೋಮ್ ಪೌರನು. ಈಗ ನೀನೇನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದೀ?” ಎಂದು ಅವನನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದನು.
And, when the centurion heard [that], he went unto the captain, and reported, saying—What art thou going to do? For, this man, is, a Roman?
27 ಸಹಸ್ರಾಧಿಪತಿಯು ಪೌಲನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, “ನೀನು ರೋಮ್ ಪೌರನೋ, ಹೇಳು?” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ, ಅವನು, “ಹೌದು,” ಎಂದನು.
And the captain, coming up, said to him—Tell me! Art, thou, a, Roman? And, he, said—Yea!
28 “ನಾನು ಈ ಪೌರತ್ವ ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ಬಹಳ ಹಣ ಕೊಡಬೇಕಾಯಿತು,” ಎಂದು ಸಹಸ್ರಾಧಿಪತಿಯು ಹೇಳಲು, ಪೌಲನು, “ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ದಿನದಿಂದಲೇ ರೋಮಿನ ಪೌರನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ,” ಎಂದನು.
And the captain answered—I, for a large sum, this citizenship acquired! And, Paul, said—But, I, am even, [free-] born!
29 ಪೌಲನನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಲು ಬಂದವರು ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟುಹೋದರು. ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಪೌಲನು ರೋಮ್ ಪೌರನೆಂದು ಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ ಅವನನ್ನು ಬೇಡಿಗಳಿಂದ ಬಂಧಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಧಿಪತಿಯೂ ಭಯಪಟ್ಟನು.
Straightway, therefore, they who were about to put him to the test, withdrew from him; and, even the captain, was struck with fear, when he found out he was, a Roman, and because, him, he had bound.
30 ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರು ಪೌಲನ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಏಕೆ ದೋಷಾರೋಪಣೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಜಸಂಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಹಿಡಿಯಲು ಸಹಸ್ರಾಧಿಪತಿಯು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷೆಪಟ್ಟನು. ಮರುದಿನ ಪೌಲನನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ಮುಖ್ಯಯಾಜಕರೂ ನ್ಯಾಯಸಭೆಯೂ ಕೂಡಿಬರಬೇಕೆಂದು ಅಪ್ಪಣೆಮಾಡಿದನು. ಆಮೇಲೆ ಪೌಲನನ್ನು ತಂದು ಅವರ ಎದುರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು.
But, on the morrow, being minded to get to know the certainty as to why he was being accused by the Jews, he released him, and ordered the High-priests and all the High-council to come together; and, bringing down Paul, set him before them.
