ನೆಹೆಮೀಯನು 4
1 ೧ ನಾವು ಪೌಳಿಗೋಡೆಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸುದ್ದಿಯು ಸನ್ಬಲ್ಲಟನಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಾದಾಗ ಅವನು ಬಹಳ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಕಿಚ್ಚಿನಿಂದ ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡು ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರನ್ನು ಗೇಲಿ ಮಾಡಿದನು.
But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry, and felt great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
2 ೨ ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾರ್ಯದ ಸೈನ್ಯದವರ ಮುಂದೆಯೂ, “ಬಲಹೀನರಾದ ಈ ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರು ಮಾಡುವುದೇನು? ಇವರು ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಬಲಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕೆಂದಿರುವರೋ? ಯಜ್ಞವನ್ನರ್ಪಿಸುವರೋ? ಈ ದಿನವೇ ಈ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸುವರೇನು? ಸುಟ್ಟುಹೋದ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಧೂಳಿನ ರಾಶಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಹುಗಿದುಹೋದ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಬದುಕಿಸಲೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ?” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು.
And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they finish in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?
3 ೩ ಅವನ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದ ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯಾದ ಟೋಬೀಯನು, “ಅವರು ಹೇಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರೂ ಅವರು ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಕಲ್ಲುಗೋಡೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ನರಿ ಹಾರಿದರೆ ಅದು ಉರುಳಿ ಬಿದ್ದು ಹೋಗುವುದು” ಎಂದನು.
Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox should go up, he would even break down their stone wall.
4 ೪ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇವರೇ ಕೇಳು, ಅವರು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಎಷ್ಟು ಹೀಯಾಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ! ಈ ನಿಂದೆಯನ್ನು ಅವರ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆಯೇ ಬರಮಾಡು. ಅವರು ದೇಶಭ್ರಷ್ಟರಾಗಿ ಸೂರೆಹೋಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡು.
Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a spoil in the land of captivity:
5 ೫ ಅವರ ಅಪರಾಧವನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಬೇಡ; ನಿನ್ನೆದುರಿಗಿರುವ ಅವರ ಅಪರಾಧವನ್ನು ಅಳಿಸಿಬಿಡಬೇಡ. ಕಟ್ಟುವವರ ಮುಂದೆಯೇ ಅವರು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಕೆಣಕಿ ಕೋಪಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರಲ್ಲಾ.
And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee: for they have provoked thee to anger before the builders.
6 ೬ ಆದರೂ ನಾವು ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಿದೆವು. ಜನರು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಗೋಡೆಯೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅರ್ಧ ಎತ್ತರದವರೆಗೂ ಸಮನಾಗಿ ಕಟ್ಟಲಾಯಿತು.
So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together to the half of it: for the people had a mind to work.
7 ೭ ಸನ್ಬಲ್ಲಟನೂ, ಟೋಬೀಯನೂ, ಅರಬಿಯರೂ, ಅಮ್ಮೋನಿಯರೂ, ಅಷ್ಡೋದಿನವರೂ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನ ಗೋಡೆಯ ಜೀರ್ಣೋದ್ಧಾರ ಕಾರ್ಯವು ಮುಂದುವರಿದು, ಅದರ ಸಂದುಗಳು ತಿರುಗಿ ಸರಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಾ ಬರುವುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಬಹುಕೋಪಗೊಂಡರು.
But it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were set up, and that the breaches began to be closed, then they were very angry,
8 ೮ ನಾವು ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನವರಿಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಗಲಿಬಿಲಿಗೊಳಿಸೋಣ ಎಂದು ಒಳಸಂಚು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರು.
And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.
9 ೯ ನಾವಾದರೋ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಮೊರೆಯಿಟ್ಟು ಅವರಿಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಬರುವ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಗಲಿರುಳು ಕಾವಲುಗಾರರನ್ನಿರಿಸಿದೆವು.
Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
10 ೧೦ ಇತ್ತ ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರು, “ಹೊರೆ ಹೊರುವವರ ಬಲವು ಕುಂದಿಹೋಯಿತು, ಧೂಳಿನ ರಾಶಿಯು ವಿಪರೀತವಾಗಿದೆ; ಈ ಗೋಡೆಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುವುದು ನಮ್ಮಿಂದ ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ” ಎಂದರು.
And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is failing, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.
11 ೧೧ ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ವಿರೋಧಿಗಳು, “ಅವರಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯದಂತೆ, ಗೋಚರವಾಗದಂತೆ ಫಕ್ಕನೆ ಅವರೊಳಗೆ ನುಗ್ಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೊಂದು ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿಬಿಡೋಣ” ಎಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.
12 ೧೨ ಅವರ ನೆರೆಯೂರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರು ಬಂದು ಬಂದು ನಮಗೆ, ನೀವು ಯಾವ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಂಡರೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಡೆಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಅವರು ನಮ್ಮ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಬಂದು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
And it came to pass, that when the Jews who dwelt by them came, they said to us ten times, From all places where ye shall return to us they will be upon you.
13 ೧೩ ಆಗ ನಾನು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಕತ್ತಿ, ಬಿಲ್ಲು, ಬರ್ಜಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಗೋಡೆಯ ಹಿಂದಣ ತಗ್ಗಾದ ಬಯಲುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋತ್ರಗೋತ್ರಗಳಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಬೇಕೆಂದು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದೆನು.
Therefore I set in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people according to their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
14 ೧೪ ಆಗ ನಾನು ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಂದರ್ಶಿಸಿ ಅವರ ಮುಂದೆ ನಿಂತು ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರನ್ನೂ, ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಉಳಿದ ಜನರನ್ನೂ ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ, “ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹಗೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೆದರಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಮಹೋನ್ನತನೂ, ಭಯಂಕರನೂ ಆಗಿರುವ ಕರ್ತನನ್ನು ನೆನಪುಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಹೋದರರಿಗಾಗಿಯೂ, ಗಂಡು ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗಾಗಿಯೂ, ಹೆಂಡತಿಯರಿಗಾಗಿಯೂ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಗಳಿಗೋಸ್ಕರವೂ ಹೋರಾಡಿರಿ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದೆನು.
And I looked, and arose, and said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be ye not afraid of them: remember the Lord, who is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
15 ೧೫ ನಮ್ಮ ಶತ್ರುಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ನಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಾಯಿತೆಂದೂ ದೇವರು ಅದನ್ನು ವ್ಯರ್ಥಮಾಡಿದನೆಂದೂ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಾಗ ಅವರು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋದರು. ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ನಮ್ಮ ನಮ್ಮ ಪೌಳಿಗೋಡೆಯ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಪುನಃ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಲು ತೊಡಗಿದೆವು.
And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one to his work.
16 ೧೬ ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ಸ್ವಂತ ಆಳುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಧ ಮಂದಿ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಾಯಮಾಡಿದರು, ಅರ್ಧ ಮಂದಿ ಕವಚವನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬರ್ಜಿ, ಗುರಾಣಿ, ಬಿಲ್ಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡು ನಿಂತರು. ಅದೇ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನೇಮಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಗೋಡೆಕಟ್ಟುವ ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರ ಹಿಂದೆ ನಿಂತರು.
And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
They who built on the wall, and they that bore burdens, burdened themselves, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
18 ೧೮ ಪೌಳಿಗೋಡೆಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುವವರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನು ತನ್ನ ತನ್ನ ಕತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಸೊಂಟಕ್ಕೆ ಬಿಗಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು. ನಾನಂತೂ ಕೊಂಬೂದುವವನೊಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೆ.
For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so built. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.
19 ೧೯ ನಾನು ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರಿಗೂ, ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಉಳಿದ ಜನರಿಗೂ, “ನಾವು ಮಾಡುವ ಕೆಲಸವು ಬಹಳ ದೊಡ್ಡದೂ, ಅನೇಕ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವಂಥದ್ದೂ ಆಗಿದೆ; ನಾವು ಗೋಡೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಚದರಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಿಗೊಬ್ಬರು ದೂರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ.
And I said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.
20 ೨೦ ನಿಮಗೆ ಕೊಂಬಿನ ಧ್ವನಿಯು ಯಾವ ಸ್ಥಳದಿಂದ ಕೇಳಿಬರುವುದೋ ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಕೂಡಿಬನ್ನಿರಿ. ನಮ್ಮ ದೇವರು ನಮಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವನು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದೆನು.
In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye there to us: our God shall fight for us.
21 ೨೧ ಹೀಗೆ ನಾವು ಅರುಣೋದಯದಿಂದ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳು ಮೂಡುವವರೆಗೂ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆವು. ನನ್ನ ಸೇವಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಧ ಮಂದಿ ಬರ್ಜಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.
So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.
22 ೨೨ ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ನಾನು ಆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನರಿಗೆ, “ನಿಮ್ಮ ಆಳುಗಳು ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಮಗೆ ಕಾವಲಾಗಿರುವಂತೆಯು ಹಾಗೂ ಹಗಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ನಡಿಸುವಂತೆಯು ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಆಳುಗಳೊಡನೆ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ವಾಸಮಾಡಬೇಕು” ಎಂದು ಅಪ್ಪಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆನು.
Likewise at the same time said I to the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour in the day.
23 ೨೩ ನಾನೂ ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೂ, ಸೇವಕರೂ, ಮೈಗಾವಲಿನವರೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನು ನೀರನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಆಯುಧಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೆವು.
So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us put off our clothes, except that every one put them off for washing.
