ಮತ್ತಾಯನು 23
Then Jesus addressed the crowds and His disciples.
"The Scribes," He said, "and the Pharisees sit in the chair of Moses.
3 ೩ ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ನಿಮಗೆ ಏನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸುತ್ತಾರೋ ಅದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕೈಕೊಂಡು ನಡೆಯಿರಿ; ಆದರೆ ಅವರ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನಡೆಯಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಅವರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆಯೇ ಹೊರತು ಅದರಂತೆ ನಡೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
Therefore do and observe everything that they command you; but do not imitate their lives, for though they tell others what to do, they do not do it themselves.
4 ೪ ಅವರು ಭಾರವಾದ ಹೊರೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಜನರ ಹೆಗಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ; ಆದರೆ ತಾವಾದರೋ ಬೆರಳಿನಿಂದಲಾದರೂ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನುಮುಟ್ಟಲೊಲ್ಲರು.
Heavy and cumbrous burdens they bind together and load men's shoulders with them, while as for themselves, not with one finger do they choose to lift them.
5 ೫ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರು ನೋಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಾವು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಜ್ಞಾಪಕಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಗಲಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ಗೊಂಡೆಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ದಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
And everything they do they do with a view to being observed by men; for they widen their phylacteries and make the tassels large,
and love the best seats at a dinner party or in the synagogues,
and like to be bowed to in places of public resort, and to be addressed by men as 'Rabbi.'
8 ೮ ಆದರೆ ನೀವು ‘ಬೋಧಕರೆನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡಿರಿ;’ ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮಗಿರುವ ಬೋಧಕನು ಮತ್ತು ನೀವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಸಹೋದರರು.
"As for you, do not accept the title of 'Rabbi,' for one alone is your Teacher, and you are all brothers.
9 ೯ ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಭೂಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಪರಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವಾತನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ
And call no one on earth your Father, for One alone is your Father--the Heavenly Father.
And do not accept the name of 'leader,' for your Leader is one alone--the Christ.
He who is the greatest among you shall be your servant;
and one who exalts himself shall be abased, while one who abases himself shall be exalted.
13 ೧೩ “ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ಪರಲೋಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಬಾಗಿಲನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಎದುರಿಗೆ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಬಿಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. ನೀವಂತೂ ಒಳಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಒಳಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದಿರುವವರನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಗೊಡಿಸುವುದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
"But alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you lock the door of the Kingdom of the Heavens against men; you yourselves do not enter, nor do you allow those to enter who are seeking to do so.
14 ೧೪ ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ ಜನರು ನೋಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ಉದ್ದವಾದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರೀ. ನೀವು ವಿಧವೆಯರ ಮನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನುಂಗಿ ನಟನೆಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ದಂಡನೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುವಿರಿ.
15 ೧೫ “ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನನ್ನು ಮತಾಂತರಗೊಳ್ಳಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನೂ ಸಮುದ್ರವನ್ನೂ ಸುತ್ತಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬರುತ್ತೀರಿ; ಅವನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಿಮಗಿಂತ ಎರಡರಷ್ಟು ನರಕಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾತ್ರನಾಗಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ. (Geenna g1067)
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you scour sea and land in order to win one convert--and when he is gained, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 ೧೬ “ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕುರುಡು ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಿಗಳೇ, ‘ಒಬ್ಬನು ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದೇನು ಆಣೆಯಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬನು ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ನಡಿಸಲೇಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಿ.
"Alas for you, you blind guides, who say, "'Whoever swears by the Sanctuary it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the Sanctuary, is bound by the oath.'
"Blind fools! Why, which is greater? --the gold, or the Sanctuary which has made the gold holy?
18 ೧೮ ಮತ್ತು ‘ಒಬ್ಬನು ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದೇನು ಆಣೆಯಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ, ಆದರೆ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ನಡಿಸಲೇಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಿ.
And you say, "'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the offering lying on it is bound by the oath.'
"You are blind! Why, which is greater? --the offering, or the altar which makes the offering holy?
20 ೨೦ ಹೀಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ ಹಾಗಾಯಿತು.
He who swears by the altar swears both by it and by everything on it;
21 ೨೧ ಮತ್ತು ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಮಾಡುವಾತನ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ ಹಾಗಾಯಿತು.
he who swears by the Sanctuary swears both by it and by Him who dwells in it;
22 ೨೨ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಲೋಕದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ದೇವರ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತಿರುವಾತನ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ ಹಾಗಾಯಿತು.
and he who swears by Heaven swears both by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.
23 ೨೩ ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಪುದೀನ, ಮರುಗಪತ್ರೆ, ಸಬಸಿಗೆಸೊಪ್ಪು, ಜೀರಿಗೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಶಮ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತೀರಿ ಸರಿ, ಆದರೆ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದುದನ್ನು ಅಂದರೆ ನ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನೂ, ಕರುಣೆಯನ್ನೂ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನೂ ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕು; ಅವುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಬಿಡಬಾರದು.
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you pay the tithe on mint, dill, and cumin, while you have neglected the weightier requirements of the Law--just judgement, mercy, and faithful dealing. These things you ought to have done, and yet you ought not to have left the others undone.
You blind guides, straining out the gnat while you gulp down the camel!
25 ೨೫ “ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಪಾತ್ರೆ, ಬಟ್ಟಲು ಇವುಗಳ ಹೊರಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಶುಚಿಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ ಆದರೆ ಅವುಗಳ ಒಳಗೆ ಸುಲಿಗೆಯಿಂದಲೂ, ದುರಾಶೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತವೆ.
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you wash clean the outside of the cup or dish, while within they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
Blind Pharisee, first wash clean the inside of the cup or dish, and then the outside will be clean also.
27 ೨೭ “ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ ನೀವು ಸುಣ್ಣಾ ಹಚ್ಚಿದ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ; ಇವು ಹೊರಗೆ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ. ಒಳಗೆ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಸತ್ತವರ ಎಲುಬುಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಹೊಲಸಿನಿಂದಲೂ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತವೆ.
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you are just like whitewashed sepulchres, the outside of which pleases the eye, though inside they are full of dead men's bones and of all that is unclean.
28 ೨೮ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನೀವು ಸಹ ಹೊರಗೆ ಜನರಿಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತರಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೀರಿ. ಆದರೆ ಒಳಗೆ ಕಪಟ ಮತ್ತು ಅಕ್ರಮದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದವರಾಗಿದ್ದೀರಿ.
The same is true of you: outwardly you seem to the human eye to be good and honest men, but, within, you are full of insincerity and disregard of God's Law.
29 ೨೯ ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಕಪಟಿಗಳಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳೇ, ಫರಿಸಾಯರೇ, ನೀವು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಸಮಾಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ, ನೀತಿವಂತರ ಗೋರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಿ,
"Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you repair the sepulchres of the Prophets and keep in order the tombs of the righteous,
30 ೩೦ ‘ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಿದ್ದರೆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂದ ಪಾಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲುಗಾರರಾಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ’ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತೀರಿ.
and your boast is, "'If we had lived in the time of our forefathers, we should not have been implicated with them in the murder of the Prophets.'
"So that you bear witness against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the Prophets.
Fill up the measure of your forefathers' guilt.
O serpents, O vipers' brood, how are you to escape condemnation to Gehenna? (Geenna g1067)
34 ೩೪ ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನೋಡಿರಿ, ನಾನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಕಳುಹಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ; ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ನೀವು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವಿರಿ, ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೆ ಹಾಕುವಿರಿ; ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಭಾಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಾಟಿಗಳಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆದು ಊರಿಂದ ಊರಿಗೆ ಅಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವಿರಿ.
"For this reason I am sending to you Prophets and wise men and Scribes. Some of them you will put to death--nay, crucify; some of them you will flog in your synagogues and chase from town to town;
35 ೩೫ ಹೀಗೆ ನೀತಿವಂತನಾದ ಹೇಬೆಲನ ರಕ್ತವು ಮೊದಲುಗೊಂಡು ನೀವು ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೂ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಗೂ ನಡುವೆ ಕೊಂದು ಹಾಕಿದ ಬರಕೀಯನ ಮಗನಾದ ಜಕರೀಯನ ರಕ್ತದವರೆಗೂ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಸುರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನೀತಿವಂತರ ರಕ್ತಸುರಿಸಿದ ಅಪರಾಧವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರುವುದು.
that all the innocent blood shed upon earth may come on you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Berechiah whom you murdered between the Sanctuary and the altar.
I tell you in solemn truth that all these things will come upon the present generation.
37 ೩೭ “ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮೇ, ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮೇ, ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಾಣತೆಗೆಯುವವಳೇ, ದೇವರು ನಿನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟವರನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಲೆಸೆದು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವವಳೇ! ಕೋಳಿ ತನ್ನ ಮರಿಗಳನ್ನು ರೆಕ್ಕೆಗಳ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹುದುಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನನಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಸಾರಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿತ್ತು; ಆದರೆ ನಿನಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಹೋಯಿತು.
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem! thou who murderest the Prophets and stonest those who have been sent to thee! how often have I desired to gather thy children to me, just as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you would not come!
See, your house will now be left to you desolate!
39 ೩೯ ಈಗಿಂದ, ‘ಕರ್ತನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವವನು ಧನ್ಯನು ಎಂದು ನೀವಾಗಿ ನೀವು ಹೇಳುವ ತನಕ ನೀವು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ’” ಅಂದನು.
For I tell you that you will never see me again until you say, 'Blessed be He who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
