ನ್ಯಾಯಸ್ಥಾಪಕರು 18
1 ೧ ಆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರೊಳಗೆ ಅರಸನಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ದಾನ್ ಕುಲದವರಿಗೆ ಆ ವರೆಗೂ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವತ್ತು ದೊರಕಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಅವರು ತಮಗೋಸ್ಕರ ವಾಸಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
In those days there was no king in Israel; and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day there had nothing been allotted unto them among the tribes of Israel for an inheritance.
2 ೨ ಅವರು ಚೊರ್ಗಾ, ಎಷ್ಟಾವೋಲ್ ಎಂಬ ಊರುಗಳಿಂದ ತಮ್ಮ ಕುಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಐದು ಮಂದಿ ಪರಾಕ್ರಮಶಾಲಿಗಳಾದ ಗೂಢಚಾರರನ್ನು ಆರಿಸಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ನೀವು ಹೋಗಿ ಲಯಿಷ್ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಂಚರಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿರಿ” ಎಂದು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದರು. ಇವರು ಪ್ರಯಾಣಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಎಫ್ರಾಯೀಮ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಸೀಮೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ಇಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು.
And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their whole number, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them: 'Go, search the land'; and they came to the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, and lodged there.
3 ೩ ಇವರು ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯ ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಯೌವನಸ್ಥನಾದ ಲೇವಿಯನು ಮಾತನಾಡುವುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ, ಗುರುತುಹಿಡಿದು, ಅವನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, “ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಕರೆತಂದವರಾರು? ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಏನು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀ? ಏನು ಸಿಕ್ಕುತ್ತದೆ” ಎಂದು ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಲು ಅವನು,
When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite; and they turned aside thither, and said unto him: 'Who brought thee hither? and what doest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?'
And he said unto them: 'Thus and thus hath Micah dealt with me, and he hath hired me, and I am become his priest.'
5 ೫ ಆಗ ಅವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವು ಸಫಲವಾಗುವುದೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೋ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ದೇವರ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಚಾರಿಸು” ಎಂದು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು
And they said unto him: 'Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we are going shall be prosperous.'
And the priest said unto them: 'Go in peace; before the LORD is your way wherein ye go.'
7 ೭ ಆ ಐದು ಮಂದಿ ಹೊರಟು ಲಯಿಷಿಗೆ ಬಂದು, ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರು ನಿರ್ಭೀತರಾಗಿ ಚೀದೋನ್ಯರಂತೆ ಸುಖ ಸಮಾಧಾನಗಳಿಂದ ಜೀವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ; ಅವರನ್ನು ಅಡಗಿಸುವ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ; ಅವರು ಚೀದೋನ್ಯರಿಗೆ ದೂರವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಯಾರೊಡನೆಯೂ ಒಡನಾಟವಿಲ್ಲದವರು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡು
Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt in security, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; for there was none in the land, possessing authority, that might put them to shame in any thing, and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no dealings with any man.
8 ೮ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಚೊರ್ಗಾ, ಎಷ್ಟಾವೋಲ್ ಎಂಬ ಊರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತಮ್ಮ ಬಂಧುಗಳ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದರು. ಅವರ ಬಂಧುಗಳು, “ನೀವು ಯಾವ ವರ್ತಮಾನ ತಂದಿದ್ದೀರಿ” ಎಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಲು
And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol; and their brethren said unto them: 'What say ye?'
9 ೯ ಅವರು, “ಏಳಿರಿ, ಅವರಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗೋಣ. ನಾವು ಆ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದೆವು; ಅದು ಬಹು ಉತ್ತಮದೇಶ. ನೀವು ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದೇಕೆ? ತಡಮಾಡದೆ ಹೊರಡಿರಿ; ಆ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳೋಣ.
And they said: 'Arise, and let us go up against them; for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good; and are ye still? be not slothful to go and to enter in to possess the land.
10 ೧೦ ನೀವು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದಾದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರು ನಿರ್ಭಯದಿಂದ ಜೀವಿಸುವವರೆಂದೂ, ಅವರ ದೇಶವು ಬಹು ವಿಸ್ತಾರವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದೂ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಿರಿ. ದೇವರು ಅದನ್ನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕೈಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ; ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ದೊರಕದಿರುವ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳು ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕುವುದಿಲ್ಲ” ಅಂದರು.
When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and the land is large; for God hath given it into your hand; a place where there is no want; it hath every thing that is in the earth.'
And there set forth from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men girt with weapons of war.
12 ೧೨ ಗಟ್ಟಾಹತ್ತಿ ಯೆಹೂದದ ಕಿರ್ಯತ್ಯಾರೀಮಿನ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಂದಿನವರೆಗೂ ದಾನ್ಯರ ಪಾಳೆಯವೆಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿದೆ; ಅದು ಕಿರ್ಯತ್ಯಾರೀಮಿನ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮದಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
And they went up, and encamped in Kiriath-jearim, in Judah; wherefore that place was called Mahaneh-dan unto this day; behold, it is behind Kiriath-jearim.
And they passed thence unto the hill-country of Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.
14 ೧೪ ಆಗ ಲಯಿಷ್ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಂಚರಿಸಿ ನೋಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದ ಐದು ಮಂದಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಬಂಧುಗಳಿಗೆ, “ಈ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಏಫೋದೂ, ದೇವತಾಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳೂ, ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯ ಮತ್ತು ಎರಕದ ವಿಗ್ರಹಗಳೂ ಇರುತ್ತವೆಂಬುದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತುಂಟೋ?
Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren: 'Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.'
15 ೧೫ ಈ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ಆಲೋಚಿಸಿರಿ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ತಾವು ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಆ ಯೌವನಸ್ಥನಾದ ಲೇವಿಯನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅವನ ಕ್ಷೇಮಸಮಾಚಾರವನ್ನು ವಿಚಾರಿಸ ತೊಡಗಿದರು.
And they turned aside thither, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and asked him of his welfare.
And the six hundred men girt with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.
17 ೧೭ ಯಾಜಕನೂ ಬಂದು ಇವರೊಡನೆ ಬಾಗಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಆ ಐದು ಮಂದಿ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಕ್ಕು, ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯ ಮತ್ತು ಎರಕದ ವಿಗ್ರಹಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಏಫೋದನ್ನೂ, ದೇವತಾಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರು.
And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men girt with weapons of war.
18 ೧೮ ಅವರು ಮೀಕನ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಕ್ಕು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬರುವಾಗ ಯಾಜಕನು ಅದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ನೀವು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನು” ಅಂದನು.
And when these went into Micah's house, and fetched the graven image of the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image, the priest said unto them: 'What do ye?'
19 ೧೯ ಅವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ಸುಮ್ಮನಿರು; ಬಾಯಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡು; ನಮ್ಮ ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದು ನಮಗೆ ತಂದೆಯೂ, ಯಾಜಕನೂ ಆಗಿರು. ಒಂದು ಮನೆಗೆ ಯಾಜಕನಾಗಿರುವುದು ಉತ್ತಮವೋ ಅಥವಾ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಒಂದು ಕುಲಕ್ಕೂ, ಗೋತ್ರಕ್ಕೂ ಯಾಜಕನಾಗಿರುವುದು ಉತ್ತಮವೋ?” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದರು.
And they said unto him: 'Hold thy peace, lay thy hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest; is it better for thee to be priest unto the house of one man, or to be priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?'
20 ೨೦ ಯಾಜಕನು ಈ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಟ್ಟು ಏಫೋದನ್ನೂ ದೇವತಾಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನೂ, ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅವರ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದನು.
And the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.
21 ೨೧ ತರುವಾಯ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನೂ, ಕುರಿದನ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಸೊತ್ತನ್ನೂ ಮುಂದಾಗಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿ ತಾವು ಹಿಂದಿನಿಂದ ಹೊರಟರು.
So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the goods before them.
When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.
23 ೨೩ ಅವರ ಸಮೀಪಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೂಗಿದರು. ದಾನ್ಯರು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ನೋಡಿ ಮೀಕನಿಗೆ, “ನಿನಗೇನಾಯಿತು? ಗುಂಪನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದದ್ದೇಕೆ” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಲು
And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah: 'What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?'
24 ೨೪ ಅವನು, “ನೀವು ಯಾಜಕನನ್ನೂ ನಾವು ಮಾಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ದೇವರುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅಪಹರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೀರಿ, ನನಗೆ ಇನ್ನೇನಿದೆ; ಹೀಗಿರಲಾಗಿ ನಿನಗೇನಾಯಿತೆಂದು ನೀವು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ?” ಅಂದನು.
And he said: 'Ye have taken away my god which I made, and the priest, and are gone away, and what have I more? and how then say ye unto me: What aileth thee?'
25 ೨೫ ದಾನ್ಯರು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರು ತುಂಬಾ ಕೋಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ; ಅವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಿದ್ದರೆ ನೀನೂ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮನೆಯವರೂ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಬಾಯಿಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆದರು.
And the children of Dan said unto him: 'Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall upon you, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.'
And the children of Dan went their way; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.
27 ೨೭ ದಾನ್ಯರು ಮೀಕನು ಮಾಡಿಸಿದ್ದ ವಿಗ್ರಹಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅವನ ಯಾಜಕನನ್ನೂ ಅಪಹರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಲಯಿಷಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಸುಖದಿಂದಲೂ, ನಿರ್ಭಯದಿಂದಲೂ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಿದ್ದು, ಅವರನ್ನು ಕತ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಂಹರಿಸಿ, ಅವರ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಸುಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟರು.
And they took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people quiet and secure, and smote them with the edge of the sword; and they burnt the city with fire.
28 ೨೮ ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣವು ಚೀದೋನಿಗೆ ದೂರವಾಗಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದಲೂ, ಸಮೀಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಚಯಸ್ಥರು ಯಾರು ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಇದ್ದುದರಿಂದಲೂ, ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯದೊರಕಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಬೇತ್‌ರೆಹೋಬಿನ ತಗ್ಗಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಈ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ದಾನ್ಯರು ಪುನಃ ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸಿದರು.
And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no dealings with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Beth-rehob. And they built the city, and dwelt therein.
29 ೨೯ ಮೊದಲು ಲಯಿಷ್ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿದ್ದ ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಈಗ ದಾನ್ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟರು. ದಾನ್ ಎಂಬುದು ಇವರ ಮೂಲಪುರುಷನೂ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲನ ಮಗನೂ ಆದ ದಾನನ ಹೆಸರು.
And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel; howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.
30 ೩೦ ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ದಾನ್ಯರು ಆ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟರು. ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ಸೆರೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವವರೆಗೆ ಮೋಶೆಯ ಮೊಮ್ಮಗನೂ, ಗೇರ್ಷೋಮನ ಮಗನೂ ಆದ ಯೋನಾತಾನನೂ ಅವನ ವಂಶದವರೂ ದಾನ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಯಾಜಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
And the children of Dan set up for themselves the graven image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.
So they set them up Micah's graven image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.
