ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು 9
1 ೧ ಯೊರ್ದನ್ ನದಿಯ ಆಚೆಗಿರುವ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲಿನ ಪ್ರದೇಶ, ಕಣಿವೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶ, ಲೆಬನೋನಿನ ಎದುರಿಗಿರುವ ಮಹಾಸಾಗರದ ತೀರಪ್ರದೇಶ ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅಮೋರಿಯ, ಹಿತ್ತಿಯ, ಕಾನಾನ್, ಪೆರಿಜ್ಜೀಯ, ಹಿವ್ವಿಯ, ಯೆಬೂಸಿಯ ರಾಜರು ನಡೆದ ಸಂಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದರು ಹಾಗೂ
And it came to pass when all the kings who were on this side the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the lowland, and along all the coast of the great sea as far as opposite to Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard [of it],
that they assembled together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.
3 ೩ ಯೆರಿಕೋವಿನವರನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನವರನ್ನೂ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದ ಸುದ್ದಿಯು ಗಿಬ್ಯೋನಿನ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮುಟ್ಟಿತು
And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,
4 ೪ ಅವರು ಒಂದು ಉಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಅದೇನೆಂದರೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕತ್ತೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಳೆಯ ಗೋಣಿ ತಟ್ಟುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿ, ಅವುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ತೇಪೆ ಹಾಕಿದ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸದ ಹಳೆಯ ಬುದ್ದಲಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇರಿದರು,
then they also acted with craft, and they went prepared as on a journey, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine-flasks, old and rent and tied up;
5 ೫ ಹರಿದುಹೋಗಿದ್ದ ಹಳೆಯ ಕೆರಗಳನ್ನು ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಹಳೆಯ ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಒಣರೊಟ್ಟಿ ಚೂರುಗಳನ್ನು ಬುತ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡರು.
and old and patched sandals upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry [and] mouldy.
6 ೬ ತಾವು ರಾಯಭಾರಿಗಳೆಂದು ಗಿಲ್ಗಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನ ಪಾಳೆಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದರು. ಅವನಿಗೂ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರಿಗೂ “ನಾವು ದೂರದೇಶದಿಂದ ಬಂದವರು. ನೀವು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ಒಂದು ಒಪ್ಪಂದ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿ ಕೊಂಡರು.
And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said to him, and to the men of Israel, From a far country are we come; and now make a covenant with us.
7 ೭ ಆಗ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಹಿವ್ವಿಯರಾದ ಅವರಿಗೆ “ಬಹುಶಃ ನೀವು ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳೇ ಆಗಿರಬಹುದು. ಹೀಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ಒಪ್ಪಂದ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ?” ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರಕೊಟ್ಟರು.
And the men of Israel said to the Hivite, Perhaps thou dwellest in the midst of us, and how should I make a covenant with thee?
8 ೮ ಅವರು ಯೆಹೋಶುವನಿಗೆ “ನಾವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ದಾಸರು” ಎಂದರು. ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಅವರನ್ನು “ನೀವು ಯಾರು? ಎಲ್ಲಿಯವರು?” ಎಂದು ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿದನು.
And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said to them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye?
9 ೯ ಅವರು “ನಿನ್ನ ಸೇವಕರಾದ ನಾವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನ ನಾಮ ಮಹತ್ತನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಬಹುದೂರ ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿರಿಯರೂ ದೇಶನಿವಾಸಿಗಳೂ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಐಗುಪ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡಿಸಿದ ಮಹತ್ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
And they said to him, From a very far country are thy servants come, because of the name of Jehovah thy God; for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,
10 ೧೦ ಹೆಷ್ಬೋನಿನ ಅರಸನಾದ ಸೀಹೋನ್, ಅಷ್ಟರೋತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಬಾಷಾನಿನ ಅರಸನಾದ ಓಗ್ ಎಂಬ ಈ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಅಮೋರಿಯರ ಅರಸರಿಗೆ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon the king of Heshbon, and to Og the king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.
11 ೧೧ ‘ನೀವು ಪ್ರಯಾಣಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ಬುತ್ತೀ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರನ್ನು ಎದುರುಗೊಂಡು “ನಾವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸೇವಕರು”, ನೀವು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ಒಪ್ಪಂದ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿರಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದರು.
And our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, Take victuals in your hand for the way, and go to meet them, and say to them, We are your servants, and now make a covenant with us.
12 ೧೨ ನಾವು ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಎದುರುಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮನೆಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೊರಟಾಗ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಈ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ ಬಿಸಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈಗ ಒಣಗಿ ಚೂರುಚೂರಾಗಿದೆ ನೋಡಿರಿ.
This our bread we took warm for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; and now, behold, it is dry, and is become mouldy.
13 ೧೩ ನಾವು ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸ ತುಂಬಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಈ ಬುದ್ದಲಿಗಳು ಹೊಸದಾಗಿದ್ದವು; ಈಗ ಹರಿದುಹೋಗಿವೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಬಟ್ಟೆಬರೆಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಕೆರಗಳು ದೀರ್ಘಪ್ರಯಾಣದಿಂದ ಸವೆದುಹೋಗಿವೆ’” ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.
And these flasks of wine which we filled new, behold, they are rent; and these our garments and our sandals are become old by reason of the very long journey.
And the men took of their victuals, but they did not inquire at the mouth of Jehovah.
15 ೧೫ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಅವರೊಡನೆ “ನಿಮ್ಮ ಜೀವವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ” ಎಂದು ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಂಧಾನ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡನು. ಸಭೆಯ ನಾಯಕರೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಜನರ ಪ್ರಧಾನರೂ ಪ್ರಮಾಣಮಾಡಿದರು.
And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live; and the princes of the assembly swore unto them.
16 ೧೬ ಈ ಒಪ್ಪಂದವಾದ ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ನೆರೆಯವರೆಂದು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ವಾಸಿಸುವವರೆಂದು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಾಯಿತು.
And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbours, and that they dwelt in their midst.
17 ೧೭ ಹೇಗೆಂದರೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಮೂರನೆಯ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊರಟು ಗಿಬ್ಯೋನ್, ಕೆಫೀರಾ, ಬೇರೋತ್, ಕಿರ್ಯತ್ಯಾರೀಮ್ ಎಂಬ ಊರುಗಳನ್ನು ಸೇರಿದರು. ಆಗ ಆ ಊರುಗಳು ಆ ಜನರದ್ದೇ ಎಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಾಯಿತು.
And the children of Israel journeyed, and came to their cities on the third day; and their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-jearim.
18 ೧೮ ಸಭೆಯ ನಾಯಕರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಮಾಣಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಸಭಿಕರೆಲ್ಲರು ತಮ್ಮ ನಾಯಕರಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಗೊಣಗಾಡಿದರು.
And the children of Israel did not smite them, because the princes of the assembly had sworn unto them by Jehovah the God of Israel. Then all the assembly murmured against the princes.
19 ೧೯ ಆಗ ನಾಯಕರೆಲ್ಲರು ಸಭೆಯ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೆ “ನಾವು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವರನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟಲಾಗದು.
And all the princes said to all the assembly, We have sworn unto them by Jehovah the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them.
20 ೨೦ ನಾವು ಇಟ್ಟ ಆಣೆಯ ನಿಮಿತ್ತ ದೇವರ ಕೋಪವು ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಾರದಂತೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ಜೀವದಿಂದುಳಿಸಬೇಕು. ನಾವು ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡೋಣ, ಅವರನ್ನು ಜೀವದಿಂದ ಉಳಿಸಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಡೋಣ
This we will do to them, and let them live, lest wrath come upon us, because of the oath which we swore unto them.
21 ೨೧ ಅವರು ಸಮೂಹಕ್ಕೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಸೀಳುವವರೂ ನೀರು ಹೊರುವವರೂ ಆಗಿರಲಿ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ನಾಯಕರ ಮಾತಿನಂತೆಯೇ ಆಯಿತು.
And the princes said to them, Let them live. And they were hewers of wood and drawers of water for all the assembly; as the princes had said to them.
22 ೨೨ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಗಿಬ್ಯೋನ್ಯರನ್ನು ಕರೆಸಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ “ನೀವು ನಮ್ಮ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವವರಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಬಹು ದೂರದವರೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ವಂಚಿಸಿದ್ದೇಕೆ?
And Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, Why have ye deceived us, saying, We are very far from you; whereas ye dwell in our midst?
23 ೨೩ ಇದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಶಾಪಗ್ರಸ್ತರು! ನೀವು ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ದಾಸರಾಗಿದ್ದು ನನ್ನ ದೇವರ ಮಂದಿರಕ್ಕೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹೊಡೆಯುವವರೂ ನೀರುತರುವವರೂ ಆಗಿರಬೇಕು” ಎಂದನು.
And now ye are cursed, and ye shall never cease to be bondmen, and hewers of wood, and drawers of water for the house of my God.
24 ೨೪ ಅವರು ಯೆಹೋಶುವನಿಗೆ “ನಿನ್ನ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ತನ್ನ ಸೇವಕನಾದ ಮೋಶೆಗೆ ‘ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಈ ದೇಶವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕೊಡುವಾಗ ನೀವು ಇದರ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿ ಬಿಡಬೇಕೆಂದು’ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಾಣ ತೆಗೆಯುವಿರೆಂದು ಹೆದರಿ ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆವು.
And they answered Joshua and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants how that Jehovah thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we feared greatly for our lives because of you, and did this thing.
25 ೨೫ ಇಗೋ, ಈಗ ನಾವು ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೇವೆ; ನಿನಗೆ ಯಾವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು, ನ್ಯಾಯವಾದುದ್ದು ಎಂದು ತೋರುತ್ತದೋ ಅದರಂತೆ ನಮಗೆ ಮಾಡು” ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರಕೊಟ್ಟರು.
And now behold, we are in thy hand: as it is good and right in thine eyes to do to us, do.
26 ೨೬ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ತಾನು ಮೊದಲು ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆಯೇ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಅವನು ಅವರನ್ನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಹತರಾಗದಂತೆ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿದನು.
And he did so to them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, and they did not slay them.
27 ೨೭ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರಿಗಾಗಿ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಟ್ಟಲಾಗುವ ಆತನ ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಗೂ ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಕಡಿಯುವವರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಹಾಗೂ ನೀರು ಹೊರುವವರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ನೇಮಿಸಿದನು. ಅವರು ಇಂದಿನವರೆಗೂ ಅದೇ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರೊಂದಿಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the assembly, and for the altar of Jehovah, to this day, in the place which he should choose.
